Hunter S. Thompson commits suicide.

Working in an Atlanta warehouse during the hot summer months in the late 80's, I was priviledged to be lent a book from a co-worker from the late, great Hunter S. Thompson. That book was "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and totally changed the way I thought about journalism.

We don't see many "gonzo" journalists anymore. It's not because they don't exist, at least I don't think so, but because most of the time publishers prefer traditional writing. (Gonzo journalism is basically where the writer injects themself into the story).

Thompson, 67, apparantly shot himself in the head over the weekend. A sad ending for a great man. You'll be missed, man. You sure gave 'em hell.

What a crazy and unique character. His counter-culture influence on the overall American psyche cannot be ignored. It's a shame how he decided to go out.
