Galactica Returns This Summer

SCI FI Channel announced that the second season of its hit original series Battlestar Galactica will premiere this summer, with 20 new episodes. The channel added that the entire ensemble cast will return for season two, including Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park. Also resuming their roles are executive producer and writer Ronald D. Moore and executive producer David Eick.

Galactica will resume production in Vancouver, B.C., in March and will again anchor the channel's SCI FI Friday block of prime-time original series.

The series, which premiered on Jan. 14, has been averaging over 3 million viewers per episode and has quickly become SCI FI's highest-rated original series and has received unprecedented critical acclaim. Galactica airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET, part of the channel's successful SCI FI Friday lineup, which also includes Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. Galactica ends its first season with a finale episode on April 1

'couldn't get into it. Sorry: I'm old school on this. The only thing that should be "shiny" on Galactica should be the Cylons.

I hear what you're saying about the Cylons. I saw the first generation as a teen and feel they should have stayed that way.

My wife thinks I (and you) are a bit twisted but I ROTFL for about 5 min when I saw your sig.

Stay shiny...

Congratulations, BSG! Y'all deserve it! ...Almost as much as Firefly deserved renewal and the support of its network. I've got a friend who watches BSG religiously on Monday nights, while I watch religiously on Friday nights.

Somebody remind me again why we can't be watching new episodes of Firefly two nights a week? Oh, that's right, F*x are a bunch of $h1theads...

Cool - IMO BSG is the best sci-fi on the air right now. Given the choice, I'd pull its plug in favor of more Firefly, but I'd rather have to choose to pull the plug on some verdammt Fox grossness like "The Swan".

Re: old-school BSG, I just consider the new one to be an entirely different show, an homage (or if you're feeling nastier about it, licensed plagiarism.) :) I don't care much for some of the choices in the new one, e.g. the new-age theme music, though I concede new-age sort of stuff does a good job evoking the fragility of the human race somehow. Love the effects, of course. I do think the whole "sleeper agent" angle with Cylons who look like humans was kind of a misstep, leading to more paranoia-based conflict than I like. I mean, I enjoy space opera about robots and explosions. Still, it's good stuff and keeps me thinking that it's a good thing to have cable.

And of course, Mmmm!, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park and Kaytee Sackhoff, in any order, serially or concurrently...

Thank you. Tell your wife that my wife feels the same way.

I too fall into the 'old school' catagory, but I'm liking this new version. While I have some techie questions about the new cylons, I like 'em much better than the tin cans on legs from the old version. Call me a blasphemer.

Has anyone watched the original Battlestar Galactica eps lately?! They're kinda shiiite! You were a kid back then, remember. The show has not withstood the test of time all that well. (I have fond memories as well of Star Wars from when I was 11. Just watched the original trilogy again a couple weeks ago and wish I hadn't. Lucas is a horrible writer. The actors truly made those films work though it often appeared as if they were struggling with the awful Lucas lingo.)

The new take on the Battlestar premise is vastly more interesting and even more mature than the original. You don't have to suspend your disbelief much to enjoy the stories. The episodes are sharp and engaging like the eps of the best seasons of Star Trek: TNG were.

I am stoked about the renewal of the series.

You make a good point, but IMO Grace Park is the only blue-ribbon cutie on there. Matter of taste, I know. BSG is not the babefest Firefly is (3 for 4 among the women, Summer Glau is pretty but too waify for my prefs. I don't consider myself qualified to judge the male actors for hotness :) ).
