UNTITLED DEBORAH KAPLAN/HARRY ELFONT PROJECT (ABC) - Julie Bowen ("Ed"), Michael Landes ("Special Unit 2") and Alan Tudyk ("Firefly") have all joined the cast of the single-camera comedy pilot, about the dating lives of a group of thirtysomething singles in Philadelphia.

Tudyk will play Oakes - "Late 20's-early 30's, any ethnicity. Brainy, edgy, prone to melancholy, awkward with the ladies, he's an odd bird who left Harvard following his quasimeltdown in the library. Oakes now lives alone at his parent's mansion. (They moved to Europe after his college fiasco). Oakes has a unique view on most topics, but sometimes can be too smart for his own good. He has been Sam's pal since childhood." Touchstone Television and The Untitled Burke/Tarses Project are behind the project, which was created by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont.

Eh it could be cool. He gets his own mansion which is pretty nice.

Added Observation: "created by...Harry Elfont" you think that guy got called Hairy Elephant when he was a kid?

Hmmm...somehow the thought of a brainy Harvard drop-out living in Mommy and Daddy's mansion doesn't seem like the sort of thing that will make for good TV. This my be FFF.net heresy, but just because the BDHs are in it doesn't make it good (witness Dogdeball).

Actually, I rather enjoyed Dodgeball, although Steve the Pirate was not that good a character in it.

Why not withhold judgment of any kind until you've actually seen the finished product?
I'll bet a comedy set in army hospital during the Korean War didn't sound so good to the first people who only heard a thumbnail description of it.
Incidentally, I thought AT was hilarious in Dodgeball.

I was actually kind of amused by the pirate. I guess it takes the stupid things in life to amuse me.

I hope AT's new series makes it to TV. He's really good at broad physical humor, witness "28 Days" (S. Bullock vehicle he stole and took for a joyride). He's also very effective comedically when reining it in (Firefly and "A Knight's Tale"). He deserves a lot of success in the industry, and I think he'll eventually get it.

"Dodgeball" blew chunks, through no fault of Alan's. One day I've got to learn to avoid Ben Stiller like the nepotistic plague he is...

Honestly,

zoid

P.S.
I originally tuned in Firefly because it had Tudyk in it, and I had immensely enjoyed his work in 28D and AKT. Then I fell in love with the show and the rest of the cast, too, like about 5 minutes in.

I enjoyed learning about AT from his movies, and especially his commentary on the DVDs. Listen to the commentary for "the Message", and youu can hear Alan's Jerry Lewis muse bursting out!! (He's flying-gggg da ship! Oh boy, that was a big pieces of styrofoam I am missing....!!)

We are a festival of conviviality... any questions?

Well, it does also describe him as being "odd" and "awkward with the ladies". Am I wrong in thinking that that sounds right up AT's alley and that I think he could pull it off?

I think he's a genius, but it'll depend on the scripts. Cain't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear...

But, I think Alan's going to be a genuine phenomenon in Lollywood someday, mark my words. Staying real and sustaining that success may be a different chore altogether. Still, you've got to be impressed with the extraordinary voice acting he did on 'I, Robot', too, so perhaps he's a true thespian, no?

That is true; right up his alley, indeed. But the show will tank if the concept is bad (which it sounds like it is, to me), despite a good actor in a good part.

I think its a good premise. But it all depends on how it develops.

'Course, I'd watch Alan Tudyk watch paint dry.
Happily.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Doesn't sound like something I would normally watch, but I will check it out to support Alan.

Hey, y'all:

Don't forget these premises for sitcoms:

1. Sports bar run by recovering alcoholic, whose pitching career was cut short by abusive addiction.

2. Group of not-particularly-successful 20-somethings; hijinks; baby ducks; foosball and matching recliners; in unbelievably oversized rent-controlled New York apartment complex.

3. Nothing. ("So you mean 30 minutes of situation comedy, each week, sans the situation?" "Yep.")

Any of those sound like a long-running hit?

Respectfully,

zoid

P.S.
Betcha y'all can name all of those shows, without even having to think about it, whether y'all ever actually watched them or not.

P.P.S.
And let's not forget both Alan's and Gina's new projects are gonna be on ABC, if they make it past pilot. So, W00t!, Big 3 airplay for our hero/ines!

I for one, hope it shows on tv... they ordered an art item from me! They are supposedly planning on using it as a wall decor in one of the character's apartments! I am so exited I hope it at least makes it to television so I can see my art on there...! It is a print of a dog watercolor I did and that is all I will say for now but crossing my fingers!

interested by new AT pilot, (i still find it funny that he's going to be in a pilot and e is a pilot and ... simple things i know)

plus, I LOVE DODGEBALL, i do think it's one of those, love it or ahte it films, and it really wasn't quirky enough, it should have given up trying to be a big film and become more quirky, cos it has it's moments, then it wud have been legendary

Well the pilot for the tv series is done, and it gets a yeah or nay in the middle of May. Please hope it is yeah... they have some decent names, Alan (Dodgeball movie and Firefly), Henry Simmons (NYPD Blue), Julie Bowen, (she is someone but I foget) Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) Tom Scott (was going to do "stacked" but left, and "that thing that you do")...

Well, honestly, the only one I am really familiar with is the Henry guy from NYPD (the tall handsome black guy that looks like Michael Jordan) but it sounds like they have a decent cast. Oh, the title is going to be "Love Life" by Touchstone Pictures aka Disney.

So be sure to look for it on abc this fall (crossing fingers) and watch for the poodle with the pink toenails picture in one of their apartments and simultaneously go Yay!! It will be my moment of silent fame lol! Maybe write to them and say where did you get such a gorgeous poodle picture lol.
