Not that American national politics is a TV show, but if he doesn't deviate from the apparent plot line, Trump is the main villain for the next few seasons.

That is too obvious a happy ending for the story. If I was writing this story for a TV show, I'd want the maximum amount of drama over thousands of episodes. One way to do that is for Trump to make a triumphant return to the White House. Think of the drama that would result. One side, the self-righteous fools, would be elated! The other side would be horrified! So much conflict would result. If Trump goes to jail too easily, the story is over and the show ends. That's what happened to The Game of Thrones when the Mother of Dragons died. When the Father of Dragons goes to jail the Trump show is over.

I think Ted should get what he wants to see in his entertainment.

Yanno. Fantasy and escapism that entertains instead of preaches.

Most of us don't get that anymore.

Good luck, Ted.

SECOND in not the only one I have seen a post from that suggests they have not been here for years yet they appear to still be posting info and comments.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I'm glad you necroposted this.

I've never actually paid any mind to much of the artwork or any of the fanfic here. I was aware at some point that Second did some artwork, or at least that somebody had mentioned that he did.

It is good stuff. I'm impressed.

But I'm a lot more impressed with how Second carried himself around here in 2014. I never noticed how pushy Wishy was even back then. I'm pretty sure when she was getting into it with second was after my drinking had gotten a hold of me and Wish and I had already had some blowup I don't even remember having at that point, but I always just assumed that was all my fault.

Looks like she was aiming to argue with Second, and he just kept coming back with cool answers that made me giggle.

What happened man? 11 years, I guess.

If we could go back that far, you'd be a much happier person and I'd still have a mouth full of teeth.

My life is going well, as always. But there is a difference: the philosophy of live and let live is for weaklings who fear evil people. By the way, Trumptards are evil. They approve of Trump's horrible behavior.

1) Ignorance is the handmaiden of tyranny

https://robertreich.substack.com/p/what-i-told-the-ed-school-graduates

In a commencement address given to graduates from U. Cal. Berkeley’s School of Education earlier this week, Robert Reich said:

Throughout history, tyrants have understood that their major enemy is an educated citizenry. Slaveholders prohibited the enslaved from learning to read. Nazis burned books. Putin and Xi censor the media.

Ignorance is the handmaiden of tyranny.

America’s founders knew this. They saw how easily emperors and kings could mislead uneducated publics. The survival of the new nation required a public wise enough to keep power within bounds. People imbued, in the language of the time, with civic virtue.

Jefferson assured Americans that if they could “enlighten the people generally … tyranny and the oppressions of mind and body will vanish, like evil spirits at the dawn of day.”

So America became the cradle of free, universal, public education.

I don’t have any easy answers to the many challenges we’re experiencing today in classrooms across the land, but we must never give up on these three basic educational ideals: free, universal, and public.

If we stop thinking about education solely as a private investment on the way to a good-paying job and see it as a public good, we’d give every child an understanding of the Constitution, the meaning and importance of the rule of law, and why no one should be above it.

This is, after all, what we demand of people who want to become naturalized citizens: They have to pass a civics test covering the organization of the U.S. government and the Constitution.

Civic education should instill in young people a passion for truth — enabling them to think critically, be skeptical (but not cynical) about what they hear and read, find reliable sources of information, apply basic logic and analysis, and know enough about history and the physical world to differentiate fact from fiction.

Such an education would also urge young people to communicate with others. With people of different races, classes, creeds, nationalities.

Teach them how to listen, to open their minds to the possibility their own views and preconceptions may be wrong, to discover why people with opposing views believe what they do.

Yet the current president of the United States does not appear to have learned any of this.

On the campaign trail, he vowed to “liberate our children from the Marxist lunatics and perverts who have infested our educational system.”

He has canceled federal exams that measure student progress and ordered his wrestling executive-turned-Education Secretary to shut most of her department.

He is attacking the freedom of speech of university students and professors, trying to deport international students and faculty solely because of what they say or write, and threatening to halt federal funds to universities that practice DEI.

He has gutted the funding of the National Institutes of Health, which provides a large portion of biomedical research, and the National Science Foundation, responsible for much of America’s engineering and computer research.

Along with certain governors, he is attacking the teaching in our schools of America’s shameful histories of slavery and Native American genocide.

He has cut funding for libraries around the country — which will jeopardize literacy development and reading programs, and reliable internet access for those without it at home.

I keep hearing that all this amounts to an “attack on the liberal state” or “the culmination of our culture wars.”

No. What’s really occurring is an attack on the American mind.

You who are soon to graduate from this wonderful school of education have chosen instead to enhance the American mind, to broaden it, to enlighten our young people, to expose them to a world of possibility.

May you educate like democracy depends on it.

2. Longtime reporters 'almost speechless' over Trump's 'transparent bribery' plot

By Tom Boggioni | May 23, 2025 8:48AM ET

https://www.rawstory.com/trump-crypto-dinner-almost-speechless/

On Friday morning, longtime Washington D.C. reporters Jonathan Lemire and Peter Baker of the New York Times, as well as conservative columnist Matt Lewis, admitted they were stunned that Republicans turned a blind eye to Donald Trump's crypto dinner.

During a segment on the president's much-criticized dinner at his golf club in northern Virginia that took place Thursday night, Lemire prompted guest Baker with, "I mean, you've covered the White House for a long time. I mean, I'm almost speechless at this. Could you imagine if Barack Obama or Joe Biden did anything like it?"

"No, we couldn't, they could –– they never did anything like this," Baker responded. "It's not the first presidential family that kind of profited off the White House; you can certainly find other examples of that in history. But the scale of this, the scope of this is so far beyond anything history has ever seen."

EXCLUSIVE: Trump accused of new grift that puts Qatari plane in shade https://www.rawstory.com/raw-investigates/trump-qatar-plane-2672031382/

"It's not just even this cryptocurrency thing, although hundreds of millions of dollars have gone to the president's family and businesses in fees because of this coin, which is basically, just a reminder, there's nothing to it."

"There's a coin, it's not of value of anything, it's not even a stock," he elaborated, "It's not even a share of a company that's producing something. It's just simply there for people to buy because they want to curry favor with the president and they can do it anonymously, they can do it secretly."

"Why do Republicans not care?" the flummoxed Lemire asked columnist Lewis.

"Because whatever Donald Trump wants to do, Donald Trump does," the conservative replied. "And they saw, whether it's the Access Hollywood video or the indictments, that this guy is magic and he always ends up landing on his feet and their base loves him, so they're afraid of him."

"So some of them may care a little bit, but not enough to do anything about it," he added. "But look, the implications here are serious, right? Democracy isn't dying, it's being rug-pulled. That's basically what the message here is."

He then added, "You see those Democrats standing up there condemning this, and I don't think it's landing yet. And so, you know, yes, Republicans ought to be standing up and holding their president, their standard bearer, accountable. I don't think the Democrats yet have the juice to take what is just transparently bribery and make it matter to the American people."

To call 6ixStringJack "evil" will probably seem as cruel as kicking a kitten, since he is an unemployed nobody with poor health who never gets out of the house, but 6ix has written many times the two words "Fuck Ukraine". I once entertained the idea that 6ix was concerned about the cost of war in lives, but that isn't so. 6ix wants Russia to slaughter Ukraine.

More evil than taking the side of evil in war, 6ixStringJack has written that nobody died from Covid-19. That position was probably to protect the reputation of Trump, who screwed up, as much as he could, the response to Covid-19. Trump is even more incompetent now than back in 2019, and it is killing people:

“Missing Americans”: US Excess Deaths Still Above Pre-COVID Levels, Upwards Of 1 Million

The excess death rate increased from 1980 to 2019 but has not recovered from the spikes seen during the pandemic.

By Laura Simmons | May 23, 2025

https://www.iflscience.com/missing-americans-us-excess-deaths-still-ab
ove-pre-covid-levels-upwards-of-1-million-79331

Between 2022 and 2023, there were 1.5 million “missing Americans” according to new research. That figure refers to excess deaths – people who would be alive had the US had a mortality rate on par with similar countries. While excess deaths had been steadily increasing for decades, the numbers have failed to fully recover from the peaks seen at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting questions about what could be driving this.

COVID-19 hit the US harder than other high-income countries, causing bigger spikes in mortality rates in 2020 and 2021. In a pandemic that has claimed the lives of over 7 million people worldwide to date, according to World Health Organization data, over 1 million of those have been in the United States.

But the new study was specifically concerned with excess deaths – deaths that would not have occurred had the mortality rate in the US been the same as in other high-income countries. That statistic had been trending in a concerning direction for years before COVID came on the scene.

“The US has been in a protracted health crisis for decades, with health outcomes far worse than other high-income countries,” said study lead Dr Jacob Bor, associate professor of global health and epidemiology at Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH), in a statement.

“This longer-run tragedy continued to unfold in the shadows of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Between 1980 and 2023, the country saw an estimated 14.7 million excess deaths in total. By 2023, excess deaths accounted for almost 23 percent of all deaths in the US. The peak of the pandemic in 2021 saw a high of almost 1.1 million excess deaths in that year alone; 2023’s figure of 705,331 may sound like a step in the right direction, but that’s still tens of thousands above the 2019 number.

Younger, working-age Americans appear to be disproportionately affected. The study found that 46 percent of all US deaths in under-65s would not have occurred if the age-group-specific mortality rates had matched those of other countries.

Even with a pandemic, a huge increase in excess deaths was not a foregone conclusion. Recent research from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) found that nine countries, including New Zealand, Norway, and Ireland, actually registered no excess deaths during the worst years of the pandemic, 2020-22.

The study compared the US data with 21 other high-income countries, including the UK, Canada, and Japan. Senior author Dr Andrew Stokes, also at BUSPH, highlighted the policy gap between the US and its wealthy peer nations, things like universal healthcare and broader social welfare systems.

“These deaths reflect not individual choices, but policy neglect and deep-rooted social and health system failures,” said Stokes.

“The 700,000 excess American deaths in 2023 is exactly what you'd predict based on prior rising trends, even if there had never been a pandemic,” said co-author Dr Elizabeth Wrigley-Field of the University of Minnesota, who also offered some suggestions as to the causes. “These deaths are driven by long-running crises in drug overdose, gun violence, car collisions, and preventable cardiometabolic deaths.”

The authors agree that further research is needed to fully understand the driving factors behind excess mortality, but suggest looking to other nations for inspiration on successful social programs would be a good start.

However, recent policy decisions by the Trump administration have Bor concerned for the future.

“Deep cuts to public health, scientific research, safety net programs, environmental regulations, and federal health data could lead to a further widening of health disparities between the US and other wealthy nations, and growing numbers of excess – and utterly preventable – deaths to Americans.”

“Imagine the lives saved, the grief and trauma averted, if the US simply performed at the average of our peers,” Bor added. “One out of every two US deaths under 65 years is likely avoidable. Our failure to address this is a national scandal.”

Keep posting what I said. It's just as true today as it was when I wrote it.

She was a crazy person who regularly told me and other people to kill themselves.

Haken wasn't taking care of the problem, so I took care of it. And not by doing anything illegal or hacking into her computer either. I just set up a rock-roll link that tracked the IP addresses of the user who clicked on it, and then I was easily able to match most people up to their IP based off of where they've said they live. It's one of the rare instances in your life where you were the smart guy in the room because you had a VPN.

And then, after years of abuse from Reaverfan, Haken finally had enough of him and got rid of him.

Shut the fuck up, you simple-minded retard.

I think you should stop talking for other people. Brenda is nice to everyone, including you and me, no matter how bad our behavior is elsewhere. And no matter how bad our behavior has gotten over the years, it's not even 1/10th of Wishy's bad behavior, or even 1/100th of Reaverfan's.

And is this you right now telling Brenda that you're done talking to her because she talks to me?

That's on you buddy. That's on you.

If you're in a position where you're throwing down ultimatums on people, you've already lost everything. Ask me how I know.

Nobody is going to be dictated by anybody else who they can and cannot talk to. I know that is a behavior that people on the left have happily engaged themselves in for the last 12 years, but they're finding out really quick now that what they really did was push all the good people in their lives away with their demands, and they really don't enjoy the company of the people they've left themselves with. Assuming any of them are even real life connections anymore and they haven't left themselves with nobody to talk to except for people who agree with their politics online.

And I'd be happy to move my conversations back to the Garden and let you have the tag section back, but I get creepy Second collecting my posts there and then re-posting stuff I said 2 months earlier like a creep. I don't see any reason for me to have any personal conversations in the Garden anymore when you two bozos are here.

Everything bad leads back to you and your behavior, and the behavior of those you choose to associate with.

Take a break from politics. Take a break from the news. Go on an online-free vacation for a week or two and clear your head.

I'll say the same thing to you that I said to Second the other day. I'll stop treating you like a bitch if you stop acting like one. Take a pill and relax. The country will be just fine while you're on hiatus and healing yourself, and you'll probably realize that there is really nothing you can do about any of this stuff that's completely out of your control other than roll with it and try not to die 15 years prematurely from the needless stress you're putting yourself under everyday.

And I should note... I can empathize with where you find yourself sitting right now. I've been watching the Government do everything they possibly could do that I don't agree with on both sides for the better part of 2 decades. (Much of it you wouldn't agree with either, if you could find a way to step outside of the box and look at all of this from a much more objective vantage point than you're used to).

It sucks.

I'm sorry you've had to deal with that for 6 months now. 20 years is a very lng time. Hopefully we can get back somewhere in the middle, somewhere north of baseline Sanity, and you don't find yourself spending the next 19.5 years of your life being constantly disappointed, angered and even enraged by what our Government does to us. I wouldn't wish that on anybody after going through it myself for so long.

I'm no saint, and you'll never hear me claiming otherwise. That being said, I am far from Evil. I just don't agree with much of anything you agree with these days, and the stuff you think you're fighting for is the stuff that's lead to the multi-generational decay of our country and our way of life. Look around you.

Will what's going on now be an actual solution that makes things better? I don't know. I haven't seen this movie before and I don't know how it ends. But somebody had to stop the flow. There's really nothing to do now but sit back and watch what happens until mid-terms. If Trump blows everything up, and we all go poor overnight with 1,000% inflation out of the blue, Democrats will come roaring back with a vengeance and it will be the Republican party that is dead. But as much as you hate Trump, I don't see how getting the result you're looking for is going to be helpful to anybody you say you care about all the time.

For the first time since I've been an adult, I am hopeful that things actually will get better instead of just getting worse every year.

I hope for you that one day you can have that feeling to. It's kind of nice and I forgot how it felt.
