If you want to break a record and participate to the most remote Shindig to date, come to the Shetland Shindig!

Meet some flans! Have a little adventure! Watch some Firefly! Speculate about the movie (no spoilers from those of you who have seen it, please)! Eat some fresh Bao (I’m learning how to make them)!

Also: I will have been to the Starfury convention in London a month before. Photos, epic tales of browncoats, wacky anecdotes about our BDHs, and other goodies will be awaiting!

When: 28-29 May, it's unlikely it will change, but it's still a possibility.

Where: Shetland Isles. It's North of Scotland (UK) and a one-night boat trip away from Aberdeen. Here is a link for the ferries:
http://www.northlinkferries.co.uk/nct2005-cruiseorkneyshetlandaberdeen
.html

Why: Good times!

So far 2 people are coming. Everyone is welcome, of course. I’m currently in France, but will be leaving for Shetland in 10 days. I’ll be able to update this information once I’m there. For those who wish to come FREE ACCOMODATION available, for a limited number of people: I'll tell you when I've actually seen where I'll be living for the next 6 months.

Stay shiny!
Flo (petit_rhino)

You have NO idea how much I'd love to come to this. Unfortunately, neither me nor my Shetland Sheepdogs (Connor and Skye) will be able to fly across the Atlantic to attend. *sniff*

Now this is TOTALY unrelated, and for that I apologize, but Shetland Ponies don't come from thereabouts, do they?

I posted a picture of a flyer for the Shindig. It doesn't tell you anything useful, but who cares, it's pretty!

When I first saw this thread on the main page, I thought that it couldn't possibly mean the Shetland Islands and figured there must be some place in the US called Shetland. But I have now read the thread and realised the error of my assumption.

It's great to think that Firely appreciation is spreading to the furthest corners of the UK. Best of luck with the Shindig. Alas, I'm far too lazy to contemplate travelling that far, but at least I've given you a bump.

It`s the French, they`re invading

Petit_Rhino is a french girl, give her credit, this will take a lot of doing to organise and if she can get sheep to see Firefly there`s hope for the BDM in November

There`s got to be some Scotish up for a wee boot ride & perhaps a few Northerners who can make it that far - we West Country Farmers don` reckon our tract`r will make it up there far.

Have a good time though

Yes, I'm French and I'll be spending 6 months in Shetland. I'm planning to convert half the island while I'm there. That's something like 10,000 people. And I'm not counting the sheep!

There's already 1 person coming to the Shetland Shindig (other than me) and maybe a second one... I plan to have fun, be there 3 people or a dozen.

I'm certainly interested in going, but I'm not sure about practicality... and I've just this moment realised that I've got tickets to see Ben Folds on Tuesday the 31st. Don't know how much of a difference that would make, I suppose I could take the Tuesday off and travel back down sarf on the bank holiday Monday...

It is a looong way from Oxford though...

It's a long way, but it will be worth it!

You candecide later on. Of course, if you can't stand me as your roommate for the 3-day convention, you might hesitate a little

I'm figuring since I'm in Lanarkshire, that Shetlands really not that far away, least not as far as France or US. Might be able do come up, gotta work out shifts etc though - and I think thats a bank holiday weekend too.

One and a half day till I go.

If everything goes according to the gorram plan, my plane won't be late, my luggage won't get lost and I'll be in Lerwick, Shetland on Monday morning, where I'll enjoy a nice breakfast on the boat. I'm hoping Murphy's taking the weekend off.

Then it's going to be a hell of a day, especially since I'm already working in the afternoon...

Here I am, in Shetland. Now my laptop is connected, I can easily come here.

Okay, first impressions.

Snowy. Everything was covered in snow!! Beautiful when I arrived. Now it's raining like there's no tomorrow and... tomorrow I'm going on the field

Oh, something about my trip!!! I had to wait 5 hours in Aberdeen with tons of luggage. I thought that was going to be boring. Then I dropped my luggage at the railway station, went into WHSmith and bought the SFX issue with Serenity cast interview. I already read it off the internet, but to have it on paper makes things much more real. I walked around the town, reading the article and laughing out loud the whole time... Good times.

About the Shetland Shindig

The boat:
If you’re a student, don’t forget to tick the right bow, because it’s a lower price. I didn’t take a cabin (more money spent on browncoat stuff!). The reclining chairs are actually quite comfortable. Just remember to bring a hat or something to cover your eyes, because the lights never go out completely. For those who might get seasick, don’t forget to buy the appropriate medicine. You can come by plane also, but it’s more expensive.

The accommodation:
My room is not that big, but I can accommodate one person. As for the shindig itself, I can use the kitchen and sitting room, especially since we won’t be more than a few.

Going around:
I have a car which I can use for myself as well as for work. This means we can go see some beautiful places in Shetlands. We can also go horse-riding, if we feel like it. I won’t wait for the Shindig to go horse-riding, because it must be awesome in that landscape!!

Cheers!

Sounds like you are going to have great time

I`ve got something for you when you come back from the outer-world and to the Serenity Convention - something from the 2nd UK Screening (a cinema seat) no, seriously I`ve got a little extra something when I see you.

Hi there! I found the thread - bumping it for you.

To anyone who may read this, I'm a newbie here. Well, not exactly a newbie. I used to lurk here back in October (November?) 2002 when I was trying to find out when Firefly was going to be on (they kept pre-empting it) or if it was being cancelled.

Eventually, I ended up spending my (very limited) time on the OB. Don't know exactly why, 'cause this is a shiny site, but there it is!

Anyway, I'm going to be at the Shetland Shindig, and I hope some of you can make it. I'd love to meet more Browncoats!

Liz, who has no idea how this site works, and who doesn't have a signature other than Liz, and who doesn't even know what that option means.
