Hey howdy. I was just wondering if there has ever been any word on the soundtrack? Will there be one for the film? Will we ever see the miyhic 'firefly' soundtrack? Could we work out a deal to get both when the film hits? There was a discussion of music being sent off to fox long long ago before the movie had realy gone anywhere but I have not since heard or seen anything on the subject so figured i'd toss it out there and see what i'd drag up. :) lates all and have a shiny day.

I'll take a shot at catching up a bit. The short answer is we still don't know anything.

The Firefly soundtrack is in a curious limbo. The Fox Music Store has been showing as a "future release" for some months now:

000000006

No one knows how much in the future that is.

The information about Greg Edmonson making a CD that could be marketed was in this interview:
http://www.tracksounds.com/specialfeatures/Interviews/interview_greg_e
dmonson.htm

Greg has posted on this board and the OB several times since that he knows nothing further.

Everyone is still encouraged to send an email to one or both of these addresses to express your interest in a Firefly soundtrack release:
foxmovies@fox.com
askfox@foxinc.com

The (new) composer for Serenity is David Newman, Son of legendary film composer Alfred Newman. ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0628056/). There has been no mention of a movie soundtrack CD, but it would be unusual for a major picture to be released without one, so I'm assuming.

So there you are. Lot's of speculation, no hard info.

I think it was Nathan Fillion who was asked this at a convention last year. He said the theme song would not be in the movie, but the movie music would have the same feel as the series music.

It'd be great to have a soundtrack mixture for both the film and series.

It's a shame they're not going to use the soundtrack, but I guess they need to put a little gap between the series and film.

I think they call those balloons.
Yeah, stick 'em in water, maybe they'll grow.

I don't think the theme song could show up in the movie because of the rights to the show. Now a slightly altered version of it may worm it's way into the overall film score.

Newman has done some incredible work such as Galaxy Quest, Anastasia, and The Sandlot, although most of the movies he's worked on hasn't featured his scores. I really hope our Firefly soundtrack doesn't sound so much like Galaxy Quest.
