Why is all this great Firefly stuff happening in the UK?

I've noticed that there seems to be alot of 'Official' looking Serenity stuff happening over there across the pond and a I'm wondering why this is. Was it better recieved over there or is Universal trying to see how much support the BDM may have in the European market? Cause I'm sittin' here scratching my head and wondering why I never hear much of anything going on over here.

Joss seems to have an awful lot of fans in the UK so it seems logical that the UK should be a 'second front' for Serenity events and advertising, even though Firefly only ever aired on Sci-Fi over here.
There's something about Wheedon's shows that seems to make them appealing to us Brits, probably because he spent time being educated here and understands our mindset.

What you also have to remember is that the UK also has a smaller land area, so whereas the US probably has just as many events (all the conventions for example), they're concentrated in fewer places in the UK (mainly London).

It could also be that we are swamped with so much crap television that the section of our population that actually likes to use their brains jumps onto any decent TV (i.e. Firefly) with extreme vigour.

Great!

About time us limey's got some of the good stuff. I do think Joss' sensibilities appeals to us in the UK.

Also we don't have a wealth of sci-fi show's being made in this country so when something does come along we gravitate towards it. It's even better when it is such quality as the work Joss pumps out.

Although the show only aired, I think twice on the sci-fi channel, you have to bare in mind Buffy has had a huge impact here in the UK, often being on two seperate channels at once (BBC2 and Sky 1) so the following from that spilt over I'd imagine, and now Joss Whedon is pretty much a household name.... Almost.....

I think it's great.
Most of the first showings and previews were all in the US, so it's shiny that we're getting some action too.
Plus, like said, Joss Whedon has a huge fanbase here. All his shows are loved here, as we don't really have great sci-fi type things going on for us

I'm already antsy for the film though!

I'm going with the "It's about bloody time," theory of operation. Hurrah for the UK getting the goods for a change.

I'm in 'flyover' country so I understand how only the east and west coasts of the US deserve all cultural and pop events.

How about this method of answering the questions, "... But will it play in Peoria?". How about bloody playing it IN Peoria and finding out.

Even "Miracle" premiered in LfrigginA when the story was all Minnesota (with a teensy bit of Massachusettes thrown in).

EMBERS

well, actually I think it is about equal.
Universal has done two previews in the US
and two in the UK (now)

and the BDH have already appeared at several US conventions
next month they'll be in London for Starfury's Serenity
and in July they'll be in Sacramento for Whedonverse's convention...

and I think I heard they'll be doing a lot of other conventions too...
so it all seems pretty equal to me.

Also it seams to be the way scifi creators see us Brits, JMS of Babylon5 had a great affection for the British & British Scifi, in partiuclar Blakes 7 & Terry Nation - they just know that we don`t need all special effects, it`s the character interactions that really appeals to us.
