I'm English but am planning to take a trip to New York - hey I need a holiday, honest - and I just happen to be timing it for the US release of Serenity . There ain't no rutting way I can wait till November for UK release. Does anyone have up to date info as to exact US release date??

Well, the big image on the Universal site says 'September 30, 2005', so that's probably as official as you can get. However, since they've already changed it once, there's no absolute guarantee they won't do it again.

I would check back toward the end of the summer. You might even look for the movie premier date so that you can see our BDH walk the red carpet in Los Angeles and see if the movie opens shortly enough after the premier. Hopefully, it's only a couple of days, rather than a couple of weeks after the premier.

How cool would it be to get a cheap last minute flight over to NY - spend a day there and then fly back the next day?

Hotels in NY can be expensive (well I did stay in a hotel in Lexington Avenue my 1st time - not too far to walk to the Empire State, Chrysler Building, etc. etc. )

p.s. I would go with the date advertised at the moment, but leave the plane ticket till you know for certain. And you can always pre-book your cinema ticket in advance at the Cinema where you want to see it to ensure you see it when you want to see it. Jet Lag will only effect you on your return to the UK.

That wouldn't happen to be the Gramercy Park Hotel would it Zol? I stayed there last October.

I'm tempted by the idea of going to the US but then again, I'm going to Australia a month later. A bit much to take two globe trotting holidays in a month.

I can`t honestly remember the name of the hotel but, you walk outside the hotel and the Chrysler Building can be seen about 1/2 mile away - Next time I get to stay, I may stay closer to Central Park. My 1st visit was to spend New Years at Times Square - that was an experience (8 hours in the cold but I got some lovely photos of the experience; just a shame I was on my own http://www.byphotos.com/public/detail.html?c_album=595464 [Just a select few ] Including some from Toronto & Niagara Falls on that Trip (Xmas in Toronto & NewYears in New York City))

my Steam Railway Photos are at http://GWSR.Fotopic.net & General Photos http://Zol.Fotopic.net if you`re interested in having a look.

Great advice tho Zol! I lurve the idea for NY for one night only!!

Sadly, everyone I know already thinks I'm a freak for even contemplating a sight-seeing/film trip - can imagine the comments I'd get if I literally went over just for the evening!!

Am thinking it may be cheaper (but morally reprehensible) to get a pirate copy and see it when it comes to the UK - could I live with my conscience?? . . . there is nothing better than the front row of the Royal Circle at Leicester Square Mezzanine - I advise booking three seats in the middle and then going alone - just so as not interrupted by fidgeting etc!! But am very sad and suspiciously anal!! Yes, that was me in Return of the King . . . .

What excellent advice!
I think that's the way I'll do things in the future. I'll buy three tickets and bring spare sweaters (jumpers for the American impaired) for the seats to either side of me.
I'll also be sure to give the 'mean ass' glare to anyone who thinks they're going get up and cross in front of me. "Pardon, but it's faster for you to go the other way."

That's why its always advisable to sit in the front row - especially if there is a balcony - stops you doing irreparable damage to your vision by practically having your face mashed against the screen . . .

I have also taken to going to see any films early on a Saturday afternoon when other people are out shopping or watching children’s films . . . in the hopes that there will be NO ONE else in the cinema!! I love the big screen but am something of a misanthrope when it comes to things where I have to concentrate . . . Bright summer days where any self-respecting normal person has taken to the big out doors are the best times to go see films!!

CHANNAIN

i DO aim to misbehave

*day of the premiere*

*ring*ring*

Cheery voice answers: Maple Grove Covenant Church

ME: "Hewwo? I'b sick. I cad comb to work."

Cheery voice: "Oh, well you stay home and take care of yourself. We'll be fine here."

ME: "u-kay. Tanks. *HACK*COUGH*WHEEZE* bu-bye."

An hour later, I'm out enjoying the movie on a weekday afternoon. Just me, Serenity, the BDH and whatever geeks happen to have done the same thing--I call it a mental health day.
