NEEDLESEYE

There's a figure approaching from the water. A sillouette, just head and shoulders, waist, and hips. A silvery, semi-transparent garment clings to a feminine form. Long tresses drenched.
At the waters edge the figure stands. The water laps at what are now her ankles. Shining, opalescent scales transform into moist skin.

She stares, puzzled at the party on the beach.
(Which was suddenly empty and then once again appeared)

"Did I hear someone recite Kubla Khan?"

*Needleseye nods her head, acknowledging the gracious bow.*

That really isn't necessary
Thank you for welcoming me.
I love poetry and songs. I heard the phrases and then had to check out the rukus I could hear beneath the waves.
Not to mention someone swam past me earlier, and as I was contemplating surfacing to the beach I noticed some people in the water, shall we say, enraptured? *clears throat*
I thought now would be a better time to check things out.

*Looks about*
This wouldn't be a shipwreck related party would it?

RAT

*Ratboy approaches the group on the beach, he's wearing a ball cap with a wet towel hanging in back and his nose is coverd in sunscreen.
He's holding a long stick-like thingy with a plate-like thingy on the end. The earphones he's wearing are pluged into the stick-like thingy.
Everyone stands up and looks at him, wondering what sort of odd music he must be lisiening to.
Ratboy keeps walking, until he notices everyone stareing at him. He pauses for a moment then unplugs his earphones so all can hear.*

Metal Detector by They Might Be Giants:

Down at the shore there's a place where there's no one vacationing
There's just the sound of the call of the wild overcoming the fear of the unknown

And I've got something to help you understand
Something waiting there beneath the sand
My metal detector
Is with me all of the time

I'm the inspector over the mine

Look past the volleyball (look past the ball)
Look past the squawking gull (look past the gull)
Ignore the mountain of discarded falderal

'Cause I've got something to make you understand
Something hidden there underneath the land
My metal detector
Is with me all of the time

I'm the inspector over the mine
Metal detector, watch it shine

Every seashell has a story to tell if you're listening
But underneath every shell there's a story as well if you've heard enough of the sea
Then everything on the top will just suddenly stop seeming interesting
So listen now to the sound of the things that are found underground

Don't need no volleyball (don't need no volleyball)
Don't need no squawking gull (don't need no squawking gull)
Don't need to look at any bathing beauty doll (don't need to look at any doll)

For I've got something to help you understand
Something waiting there beneath the sand
My metal detector
Is with me all of the time

I'm the inspector over the mine

Look past the volleyball (look past the ball)
Look past the squawking gull (look past the gull)
Ignore the mountain of discarded falderal

'Cause I've got something to make you understand
Something hidden there underneath the land

HEY! What is that suppose to mean? That wasn't very ...I really don't think ...
Oh ok, you're right, I had few problems with my clothing in the last few threads. I blame it all on a slight malfunction with the butterflies!

Hey look there's a little piece of string hanging off my skirt. I'll just pull that off and...

Luckily there's a seamstress shop on this lovely planet. Nope, nakedness will not be taking place any time in the near future. (unless of course there is a simonclone involved somehow, i am all for seeing that in the non-clothed variety) So there!

I don't know if this is a campfire song, but my sisters and I used to sing a song called "The other day" (ok,we *still* sing it...)

Each line is sung by one person, then everyone else sings the line back. Then, everyone sings the verse together.

Ready?

I'll start, you echo.

The Other day (echo)
I saw a bear (echo)
A great big bear (echo)
Oh Way up there (echo)

All:
The other day I saw a bear,
A great big bear oh way up there!

He looked at me (echo)
I looked at him (echo)
He sized up me (echo)
I sized up him (echo)

All:
He looked at me I looked at him
He sized up me I sized up him

He says to me (echo)
Why don't you run? (echo)
I see you ain't (echo)
Got any gun (echo)

All:
He says to me why don't you run?
I see you ain't got any gun

I says to him (echo)
"That's a good idea! (echo)
So C'mon feet! (echo)
Let's up and flee! (echo)

All:
I says to him that's a good idea!
So c'mon feet let's up and flee.

And so I ran (echo)
Away from there (echo)
But right behind (echo)
Me was that bear! (echo)

All:
And so I ran away from there
But right behind me was that bear!

And up ahead (echo)
there was a tree (echo)
A great big tree (echo)
Oh glory be! (echo)

All:
And up ahead there was a tree,
a great big tree oh glory be!

The lowest branch (echo)
was ten feet high (echo)
It reached way up (echo)
into the sky! (echo)

All:
The lowest branch was ten feet high
It reached way up into the sky!

And so I jumped (echo)
into the air (echo)
but I missed that branch (echo)
oh way up there! (echo)

All:
And so I jumped into the air
But I missed that branch oh way up there!

Now don't you fret (echo)
and don't you frown (echo)
'Cause I caught that branch (echo)
on the way back down! (echo)

All:
Now don't you fret and don't you frown!
'Cause I caught that branch on the way back down!

NOTE: this last verse starts out quite slowly then speeds up to normal speed on the last line
That's all there is (echo)
There ain't no more (echo)
Unless I see (echo)
That bear once more (echo)

All (slowly and ending with a grand flourish):
That's all there is there ain't no more!
Unless I see that bear once more!

My! That was fun! Well, time to go off and play some games.

We alway sang the red wagon song...

(whisper)
You can't ride in my red wagon
The wheels are broken
and the axle's saggin'

Same song same verse
A little bit louder
and a little bit worse!

Repeating these same lines until you nearly lose your voice or annoy the camp counselers, which ever happens first.

Ah yes *knowingly smiles* nice to meet you and yours.

Great songs! I've never heard that Big Bear song.
*Gives and admiring glance to SereniTree*
I'm quite fond of "Row, row,row your boat" however...

...I have another song I'd love to sing.

*Suddenly distracted, looks in the direction of the kilted fellow finishing off a rather large burger*
BUT before I do, I'm a bit hungry. Can't sing well on an empty stomach. What variety of animal flesh is that? *pointing at burgers* Might I have one?
Not much around here but crab and fish all the time, y'know with an occassional sailor.

To relieve the boredom of such a decadent scene, Needleseye begins to recite..

Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more,
Men were deceivers ever;
One foot in sea, and one on shore,
To one thing constant never.
Then sigh not so,
But let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting an your sounds of woe
Into Hey nonny, nonny.
Sing no more ditties, sing no more
Of dumps so dull and heavy;
The fraud of men was ever so,
Since summer first was leafy.
Then sigh not so,
But let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
Into Hey nonny, nonny.

* After the “ratburger” comment, The Real Me starts paying attention. He eyes Rat and his hasty escape. *

Needleseye, you may help yourself to any of our food and drink here, but kindly do not eat the participants in this party.

And I’m not certain what this “Port-o-let” talk is about with regard to the SereniTree. If it is in reference to size, then Rat is mistaken. On the outside, the SereniTREE is the size of a two-story house that could be put into the limbs of a rather large tree. It began as a tree house, after all. We have a picture of it on our flag. It is much larger on the inside, since I have folded space through some higher dimensions a few times. Inside, it’s probably the size of a small shopping mall.

* The Real Me looks around. *

I’m afraid that Captain Ebonezer is indisposed. But I’m the First Officer of the SereniTree. Perhaps I can be of assistance?

So pint for the fella, glass of wine or fruit based cocktail for the lady.

*hands twg a fruit based cocktail of her own imagination*

Gosh, what a lot of umbrellas you imagined in it. Wow.

Right, I'm going to set up a limbo line here. How low can you go? Everybody, how low can you go?

*after sharing a delightful sticky and chocolaty s'more with her beloved Static, twg notices the glass of umbrellas sitting near her*

Thanks Simon! I'm not sure what it is...it seems to just have lots of umbrellas in it...it's cool though.

*twg takes a step towards the limbo line*

I'm ready.

*BJS lands on TWG's finger*

Squawk.

It's gonna rain. cozenstarthingy's gotten all sentimental like. Can't be helped: they're just happy tears.

It'll be a warm downpour. Best to just revel in it. 'Sides, the Ferrari needs washing.

Thanks for dropping by. All of you.

*walks barefoot onto the beach, towel wrapped around her body, carrying a bottle of suntan lotion*

I love the beach. It's so peaceful and relaxing.

*finds a nice spot to layout and tan, makes self comfortable*

Anyone mind putting some lotion on my back? *holds up the bottle, searches for eager faces*

Squeek!

It gets worse. Being only a foot long, and not so particularly tall, I, BJS am an odds on favourite to win a limbo competition.

However, and this is important, Mr. Rat, it ain't actually a competition.

TheRealMe: The Brides have all been employed as keno girls on the Ariel level casino, save for the ReaverBride, who is currently undergoing counselling with the prototype Inaraclone and Bookclone. The prototype Riverclone is recommending aromatherapy sessions, but it is at this time uncertain as to what this has to do with anything. Your help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

There's plenty o' umbrellas. Y'all might wanna consider MudLimbo. Adds a certain sillyness to the workings.

Black Jack Silver.

Would you be interested in a little mud limbo? A dance in the rain?

*Goes toward keg, finds and empty chair and sets it next to the scoffing kilted fellow and has a seat *

Well, everyone seeems to be having a nice time.
*Looks a TGJ*
Hmm, there's something I'd like to share.

*Beginning to hum a lilting tune, out stretches hand toward TGJ and small orange and red flowers sprout from fingertips. Holds toward TGJ and winks.*

*blinks for a moment and smirks warmly.*

Well. Thank you. Not often that I am the recipient of flowers, and from a lady pleasing to the senses no less.

*sniffs the air*

Ah, summer's rain on the breeze.

NEEDLESEYE

You're welcome.

*sighs and feels the need to explain herself to someone*

At least you haven't run off...yet. Y'know, last time I sat next to a crew member of a ship visiting here, I was looking at him like dessert.
Right as I was about to take the first bite, he started to sing this song...
*begins to sing hoping no one flees*

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks,
For you sing, 'Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, O my heart shies from the sorrow'

I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am troubled at the tide:
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with Death my bride?
Hear me sing, 'Swim to me, Swim to me, Let me enfold you:
Here I am, Here I am, Waiting to hold you'

*gets slightly teary*
After that, I lost my appetite and I let him go.
*Immediately ,little flowers begin to pop up around the chair and at TGJ's feet, more pop up here and there across the beach, then out into the water, floating about*

Since then I seem to have a problem...

...flowers!

*nods, with a knowing smile*

Creatures of magic seem to cross my path often. Fear not your appetite. This tech-priest can handle himself. Besides! We have so much that is far tastier than man-flesh.

*leans in a bit*

Though if a song will save me...

...I do a pretty good Chris Isaaks.

I shall not flee from the one who penned:

Velocity addicts explode on the highways
Ignoring the journey for moving too fast

Which sage observation I proceeded to ignore for longer than I care to admit.
