Well, that's not nearly as fun.

maybe we can get the tardis to malfunction so it only holds a few... or we could hide in Inara's shuttle

I always thought I'd break something in Inara's room. I am not a graceful woman.

Perhaps in Mal's room. Or Jayne's. I'd suggest Wash's room too, but Zoe could kick my pasty little hiney, so...

BTW, thanks for the party tip, but I really want to go to the old west disco. Hailing from Texas, it's the only one I don't have to make anything special for. (I did make a costume for the Sunday night disco. Who can resist gorgeous companion clothes?)Do you suppose people will be up 'till all hours on Friday? I'd love to haunt the lobby, but I don't want to abuse the hospitality of the Thistle or get poor Sean in trouble.

It won't be quite as late as Saturday but as long as people buy enough from the bar it should stay open until at least 3, that leaves only 3 hours or so until the tubes start running again (if you are staying B&B you could get back to your hotel in time for brekfast before sleeping for a couple of hours). It is very easy to kill 3 hours with other attendees, us Browncoats are a friendly bunch and I for one stay up until breakfast at least 2 of the 3 nights - even with a room!

I guess you guys don`t know Dr Who - in the new series, we`ve only seen `one` room in the Tardis - it`s a hell of a lot bigger inside (think planet sized)

Seen one room, yes. Know of more, definitely. The Doctor directed Rose towards a wardrobe room in episode 3. There were a lot of turns to get to it, so it's still extremely dimensionally transcendental

woah, far too many syllables for my ickle brain to cope with, but i like it. May I steal your syllables and use them in general conversation? It would make a pretty cool t-shirt too - if I have time could I make one?

Zol: Where is this reading taking place? Why don't you have a continual reading going on in the lobby (by the bar) so different browncoats can come and go as they need/want, it might be fun to see how someone playing Mal would play, say River?

Ok i know this may be a stupid question but im unclear on copyright laws for pics of our BDH. I want to make something for the art competition but am i allowed to photocopy a pic of say kaylee and print it onto material without asking anyone permission? My friend has just planted paranoia in my brain and got me worried. What is the deal with things like this?

Thanks

Well, it might get a bit too rowdy in the lobby, and I wouldn`t want to upset Sean Harry & the Hotel by blocking up the space, plan would be to take over a bedroom (probably mine if it`s big enough) or an empty space

There`s room for 20 parts (some very short and some with lots of lines) - I have thought of picking people randomly to read lines & recording them on MD then splicing it all together, but that would be a nightmare to organise - of course people can still come upto my room & speak a part in peace and quiet and do it that way.

I`m open to ideas but generally 20 people (21 including myself) is a lot - I`ve got 20 scripts printed out ready - I still have to see what Sean Harry has to say about me putting up a poster/flyer for people to attach their names to for the reading.

Personally, I would love to do this in the Main Hall but I don`t think there will be time available to do that.

Damn wrote a bit there, sorry(!)

I think getting 20 people together and go from there - If I don`t get 20 then might have to re-think plans.

Don't worry about Sean, he'd be fine with it as long as it didn't block his queues

There are always a few large groups in the bar area, but I get the point about it being noisy - you might be able to get some attention and get more people to join if you practice in the lobby and record in your room. Just a thought.

What are you going to do with the recording?

OOH!! I'm excited!! OKay, so my route is planned, I need to pack food and clothes and whatever else.

I need to get my dosh sorted out tommorrow, and get jeans this avo.

Oh, and in the hope to perhaps have a live conversation with another attendee before the event, heres is my MSN - matt7799@hotmail.com [/shame-less self-promotion]

And hell these parties sound cool, its been months since I went to a decent party!! Oh this is gonna be soo cool!

As long as I don't get lost in the way there.

Ooh, and I need to get my t-shirt printed.

I'm still going with "Serenity '05" on the front, then "Fireflyfans.net" on the back, and a big "PsychicRiver" with an option on "Come say hi but don't touch my knitting needles!" underneath that.

Maybe I should get myself some knitting needles to take with me? But then I might appear scary. [/ramble]

Once we're inside the tardis, dyu think the bar staff will kindly shake it and possibly knock it over, cos that would just be fun! ;biggrin:

When would people want to go and see Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy during the con (as a group)?

I still fancy friday but this might not happen - sign in for the con is at 3pm, hotel room booking in time is 2pm (although some hotels can be flexible) after registration, the dealers rooms are open &youve got the opening ceremony at 7 or 7.30pm(?) followed by the 1st Party.

Anybody got any decent ideas? (of course Hitchhikers can wait, but it will be nice to go as a group and how support)

Well, I`m staying till monday morning when the hotel chucks me out - although, I then need to go home and gear up for work the following day

I don`t mind missing part of the party - (it does go on until 3am although I`m not alive at that time of the morning)

Of course there are the people who are going to the meet`n`greet too (I`m not one but there could be others who want to see the film too)

My problem with monday is that I will have a car to take care of & more stuff to do for work the following day. I would love to see it with firefly/hitchhikers fans but this day just isn`t practical for me.

I may end up seeing it alone when I get back to Cheltenham/Gloucester

CapnEric: Sami and I aren't flying out until 4 pm on Monday; if there's an 11 a.m. matinee, I suppose we could see Hitchhikers before going to the airport...but it'd be realllly tight unless the movie show is very convenient to Heathrow.

Hitchhiker opens 29th in UK?

BTW, Psychicriver (and Phoebe)-- Sami's close to your age so it'd be nice to be able to identify you. I know you probably already said, but could I ask anyway: Are you wearing a badge, special shirt? What do you look like, generally? We won't be arriving early enough to do lunch after all, but maybe we could meet at the registration desk or something?

(That goes for the rest of you FFF's too.)

And this may be a repeat but if you haven't seen my photo on the Prospero boards: I'm around 5 ft tall, shoulder-length hair with blond highlights, and I'll be accompanied by slightly taller brunette daughter. The daughter looks a bit like Natalie Portman (hence, her Padme costume for Jedi Night). We'll be wearing badges with our names on them.

Edited to include Phoebe :)

That's cool. Okay, this weekend I'm going to get a t-shirt printed that should probably say "PsychicRiver" on the back along with something-witty about knitting needles on the back. (I'll post the official t-shirt details once I get it done) I'm 6ft 3", short brown hair, um, hazel eyes (not that you wanna go up to every 6ft 3" guy with brown hair really close to check) and I'll be in jeans, and on my left wrists, will be about ten black bands, on the other wrist, a blue band, some beads and a black band with the word "Working Class Hero" on it. And I'll be wearing a silver crucifix round my neck, if that helps you to identify at all.

Oh, wait! I forgot to mention; And I have a tail!

But hey, now I know it's just PsychicRiver/Matt!

OK, us small people will crane our necks skyward and scan the ceiling for ya. Better make the print on the shirt really big so will be visible from way down here near the mice...;-)

Got my badge yesterday (thanks Zol ) I'm not having much time to think about the con at the moment; parents are moving house at the moment, and all my evenings next week are taken up with rehearsing/being in a play in Abingdon. But I should probably start thinking about what's going on more seriously. I'm afraid I'm not organised enough to think about costumes and so on, but I'll be wearing my badge, and probably some SF/fantasy-based tshirts.

Regarding Hitchhiker's I think I'm going to see it on it's opening night, Thursday the 28th, and to be honest, I don't really want to risk missing anything at the con if I can.

I've really got to think about practicalities of driving to Heathrow from Oxford though - and since I'm staying at another hotel a fair distance away, I suppose I'd better find out about public transport in the late/far too early hours of the morning...

Argh! So many things to think about

I`ve got mine all done, it`ll be good to get soem photos done (especially the fans) - I`ve also got 2 keyrings madeup too - for hanging on jeans etc.

Does Hitchhikers open on Thursday 28th? that might be a good idea to see it before the con (with Srenity trailer? possibly? yes/no/maybe?)

I shouldn`t worry too much about transport too & from the con, there`s probably a heathrow shuttle bus or something - check with the hotel before going - or alternatively bring parking cones and we can reserve a space in the main hotel carpark (with a sign reserved for firefly class vessels only - all opthers will be squashed! )

I`m not sure on getting top Heathrow from Oxford, but for me in Cheltenham, my easiest route is upto Cirencester though to Swindon (on the bypass) and join the M4, get off M4 at Heathrow & locate Hotel - Easy. The Hotel will be marked by various low flying atmospheric vehicles of the 20th Century design

I'll make myself as easily identifiable as possible, LOL! I'm only short (5'0 exactly), brown hair a little past shoulder length. And I'm probably going to be as colourful as humanly possible on the first day. No specific T-Shirt, but if you spot a 5'0 girl who looks around 17, wearing a) bright pink trousers, bright pink t-shirt, white jacket or b) bright orange trousers, purple tank top, black jacket, green/blue necklace, then it's me. Unless there's someone out there with eerily similar tastes to me.

Right, I'm going to do this both here and on the Browncoats site. There's a cinema very close to the airport (literally less than 5 miles away) which is a multiplex complete with Dolby EX and all that.

http://www.myvue.com/cinemas/location_facilties.asp?SessionID=AA175BBC
84BB4A5282FF90DB3D01F8D5&cn=1&ci=41&ln=1

They've yet to start advertising times for H2G2 but I'd imagine there would be a suitable showing at some point after registration and check-in (i.e. around 3 o'clock) that would finish in good time for us to return for the opening ceremony. I'm sure we could organise transportation without too much fuss and there's no danger of things breaking down in Central London that would stop us from returning in time (heck, we could walk back in less than an hour).

Does this seem like a good choice of venue/time? Any thoughts/suggestions? I'll post an update when the cinema puts up its schedule for that Friday.

Excellent Simon_Who (Dr `Who` Simon?)

That`ll be the ticket - if you go onto scoot, you can sign up for emails for that particular cinemas showings or alternatively do it on the day ro even ring the cinema this friday and sk about next friday

Definitel;y more organised than me, even if we all loadup in a taxi (all 42 of us ) it shouldn`t cost too much.

I`ll put my name down for that, assuming that stewarding won`t interupt (I doubt it for the 1st day but you never know)

I might just leave hotel room registering until later depending on how bad it is - try to queue as early as possible for the registering of the con.

See you soon

MIKELOSAURUS

*wanders over from Browncoats boards*

TBH the MyVue is still quite a trek, and not necessarily that practical. The CineWorld multiplex in Feltham http://www.cineworld.co.uk/cinemas/feltham.phtml looks like it might be slightly closer, with a bus service between Feltham station and Heathrow airport to boot.

Having said that, if enough people are up for the MyVue, the timing works, and I can share a cab, then I'm still up for it..

Very happy to see Opium in Edinburgh getting a name check up further back up there :) It has a tiny little dance floor where me and my Wash used to dance embarrassingly energetically to Amphetameanies songs. It's also free to get in. And maybe a little like the Bronze, but with more alcohol and more goths. And it's Napier Uni, not college, firefloozysuzy, they spent tons of money rebranding... :)

I'd be interested in seeing the Hitchhiker's guide... I haven't actually looked here for a wee bit, and it only just occurred to me how soon this is all happening. It is my first ever convention, and I know exactly one person (though I have seen some of you at the test screening, but I was suffering from a very severe flu at the time, and had lost my voice and some of my recollections of those whole few days are a bit hazy...) so it would be cool to meet some people who at least I have seen writing here.

Also, I have a question: if you're not going in full costume to the evening dos, are most people just generally smart or what? I have a paranoia about dress codes since a recent event which I was told 'was quite casual', and when I showed up there were men in kilts and in tartan breeches and girls in evening dress - with gloves!

But won`t Nathan be there wearing a kilt? - I`ll be in costume for most of Saturday, although I aint got a Jedi costume - Yoda may come with me though, and friday night could see me in a cowboy drifter outfit

I don`t think there is any dress-code - certainly nothing`s been mentioned apart from fancydress optional - of course somepeoples ideas of normal could be fancy dress to others

Looking forward to seeing many people

FIREFLOOZYSUZIE

Well, well! So the Opium place is real and Jodie's not pulling my leg. You say it's Goth? Hmm, I guess that explains why when I asked what to wear, she answered, "Oh, it's a rock club. Mostly, people wear black." LOL.

Sorry about calling Napier a college. My university (I've been taking master classes in education) actually changed up from a college in the middle of my degree program and did THAT make a mess with our planning, schedules, student services-- everything! Hope nobody you know had a similar experience.

Oh, speaking of Napier students: Mine called today and told me she's seeing adverts that Hitchhiker's opens on THURSDAY, so we can see it with her before going on to Serenity-land. Kool! I wonder if she'll have trouble getting tix; she said something about buying in advance.

Oh and don't worry about dressing for the discos.
When have you ever known sci-fiction fans to be all priggish about dress code? Phhhht. Never will happen.

Leaving on Sunday for Heathrow! Oh I can't bear the excitement

I can put your minds at ease and assure you that there is no dress code for evening parties at the event. I never wear fancy dress and just wear what I am comfortable in like cargo pants and t shirts. I have however seen plenty of Stafury reglars for whom casual and comfortable might include a chain mail bikini!

You are free to roam around as you please and to dress as you please. Nobody will mind. Just don't be shocked by any of the "casual wear" you might come across.

I have been to loads of Starfury events and they haven't changed the rules in the time I have been going. Its about having a weekend when you can be whoever you want to be around a couple of people you might recognise off of the telly!

Thanks very much for the reassurance about clothes... I am such a girl. I bet Zoe would wear whatever she wanted and look great...

I think I'm really looking forward to this now - something of a delayed reaction it's been. Got my train tickets down to Englandia now and everything.

Plus, Nathan in a kilt? Yes, please.

Hoorah! Better late than never Iamzoe, this is going to be fun.

Anybody else need perking up?
Everyone on this thread seems super-adept at mindcontrol except me anyway, my brain appears to have been eaten by unconvincing looking monsters- I don't suppose anyone can send me a new one?

I really should get me a signature

Come now, if we were all good at mind control, who would we have to bend to our will?

As a slight side note, anyone going to the marathon Star Wars screening on May 16th? All 6 films in London's Leicester Square, with brand new presentations of them all and a chance to see Episode III while the official Premiere is still ongoing across the street.

Tickets go on sale on Monday, costing £50 each (hey, tickets for any film in Leicester Square costs at least £11 for an adult). Bit silly that they're showing them in the wrong order (IV, V, VI, I, II then III) but there you go, what can you do.

Don`t know about the Starwars thing, to be honest I would probably fall asleep (it happens when you watch a film so many times, it`s to do with total relaxation) also, it would mean coming to london for 2 days (too close to after the Sreenity Con)

Hope everything is set for `Serenity` now, just starting to think about packing some essential stuff now, so that I don`t have to worry about it later.

So guys, do we have a time/place to meet up on the Friday, or not? Cause if we don't, we should get organising! There's only a week left

Why not make some big boards that say:

Firefly Fans Net
The OB
Serenity Message Boards

Then when an air horn sounds everyone has to run to their board of choice? Is it just me or am I channeling the spirit of Mike Reid's Runaround?
