Hey Everybody:

I may have a job offer in Mission Viejo. The pay won't be great but it's a job and I don't have one now even though I live in a city I like (Austin, TX) I'm thinking about moving out there. Can anybody tell me what Mission Viejo is like?

Much appreciated,

batmarlowe

CAITE

Mission Viejo is a fairly nice community. I don't know a whole lot about it though, only that it's mainly middle class people living there. If you also want to look at surrounding cities, look at Irvine, Laguna Nigiel, or Lake Forrest.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

Overall not a bad place to be but there are certain places you don't want to live. On the average OC is expensive (probably Santa Ana excepted).
"Average rent for all Orange County one-bedroom apartments is $953 per month" http://www.ochousing.org/hcd%20consolidated%20plan/May%2015%2000%20Sec
%20IV%20.pdf

Perhaps you could google on 'rent' and locales near (within 20 miles) of your intended job to see if it pencils-out?

I haven't heard anything bad about that city but you should be prepared for the sticker shock of living in California. Gas alone is $2.66 a gallon. Even frozen pizza costs more. We won't even talk about car registration and taxes. Just to give you a hint. A friend of mine registered a 1991 Ford Escort last December and it cost her $163.

Thanks for your input, everybody. I went to four of those salary/cost of living comparison sites and discovered that I would need to make 14,000 to 31,000 more depending on which website I was at.

Plus it's a situation where I would need to pack up and move just about immediately--no time to find a roommate or anything like that.

But thanks again for your help, fellow Browncoats! We'll be together in spirit in 170 days.

YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Another thing to consider is that you don't need a car, unless you want to drive into the mountains in winter to ski. I haven't owned one since 1991.

Keep the Shiny Side Up . . . (wutzon) Umphrey's McGee, "2x2", from "Live @the Snow Barn"

There was an interesting story in the LA Times today about how people are leaving LA and Orange County because of the cost of housing and some people are leaving Cali altogether because of the cost of housing and other expenses.

Can't say I'm surprised to hear that. Thanks for letting me know about the article. Maybe it'll show up online in a few days and I can check it out.
