Since Joss collaborated in the making of Titan AE, would anyone agree that AE is Firefly with aliens and a different timeline? There are enough similarities in both stories that one can assume that both are written by the same peeps. Just an observation with probably a few holes. Both are amazing.

Titan! Yay! I loved that movie when it was in theatres. Had no clue Whedon had a hand in it until just recently.

I disagree entirely and in all possible ways. If I could find a more redundant way to say that I would.

I like the show … movie … thing. But I can not see any ties to Firefly worth talking of.

Firefly is about people who left the world willingly, and have many home-worlds to call their own.
A.E. is about a race (humanity) that has been shattered in large part due to their total lack of a home-world.

Firefly is about surviving.
A.E. is about saving the world.

So on. It’s just a completely different dynamic in my mind.

In Firefly, I think humans had to leave Earth. Isn't that why they refer to it as "Earth that was"?

Yes. In Firefly, the resourses of the Earth were depleted to such an extent that the humans had to leave and terraform other planets to make them as Earth-like as possible.

Titan AE--while a good movie(IMHO), that I like very much-- is more about bringing the devistated, hunted, and unwillingly scattered humans to a new home.

There really aren't that many similarities, besides the space/spaceship/Joss connections. Although, some of the characters are similar, now that I think about it. Preed is kind of like Jayne, Stith is a Zoe-esque character, and Gune is kind of a Kaylee-River mesh. Huh.

IIRC: when asked at a Convention if there was a creative thread that ran from Titan AE to Firefly, Whedon replied that he wasn't sure there was a creative thread that ran through Titan AE

While very flawed, I love Titan: AE.
My favourite line was: "Intelligent guard, didn't see that one coming." and that's gotta be all Joss! Didn't know it at the time I bought it, but enough of Joss' imput survived on Titan to make it a much better than average 'toon.

And the dvd is soooo pretty.

Yep, have to say Titan AE was a decent watch. Much better than Final Fantasy - ugh! Don't see much in common with Firefly, though.

...still a little whimsical in the brain pan...

I think they wore their guns in a similar fashion in both Firefly and Titan.

i agree. the movie could have used another half hour or so of plot development. while i enjoy the complete CGI graphics that are so common these days, i still am somewhat partial to the old 2D animation. i felt kind of bad that the movie got such a bad rap.

Aside from the obvious cultural overtones on the Human colony in AE, of course. Even you have to admit it bears a striking resemblance to the Eavesdown Docks on Persephone. And the way Humankind has adapted to life with aliens may not be a direct reflection of how Western and Eastern Cultures have blended in Firefly, but it's pretty darn close.

I would say having to leave a world that was used up probably wasn't any more fun than having it ripped out from under you. I will agree with the shattered, however.

I would have to say that Humanity in AE is doing its darnedest to survive too - just not getting a whole lot of help in that area, or making it all that easy on themselves either for that matter. Hard to do when it's considered a minority.
You meant saving the BDU, right? Big Damn Universe? You know, since "the world" has been obliterated and all.

It's true, but Joss did dip into the environmental outline created for AE as a resource to build Firefly. It's too obvious (oop! that's me, being redundant) to ignore.

And you canNOT tell me that Korso was not a precursor to Jayne. I mean from the goatee to the betrayal to his fingerless gloves - all Korso would need is Adam Baldwin's voice and he'd be Jayne. Korso is smarter than Jayne, but then so is my cat. Not that that's a bad thing, of course.

All opinions mine.

Now that you go into that kind of detail, yeah, I guess there are some similarities.
No coincidence I like 'em both- for that very reason, I suspect.

And EST120, if you like the old 2D animation, check out Fire And Ice, due out on dvd in a few months.

and here I expected fisticuffs - you were so adamant about the lack of simularity and all. It's almost dissapointing.

When there are points to be made, and a person makes 'em, the only intellegent recourse is to acknowledge 'em.

On the OTHER hand, orderin' me to "keep flying" as you say is something else! Wanna go? Go ahead, put 'em up! I'll make mincemeat outta ya!!

There are definately some great lines in there that scream Joss. I loved the backgrounds.

I don't agree with the theory that Korsko was the Jayne prototype, though. I think there are some similarities, but it seems to me like Korsko is what Mal might have been if he had lost every last drop of sympathy and compassion and only thought of himself.

And i'm sure if Mal had a chance to name a planet he'd name it something original as well.

Akima: You can't call a planet "Bob."
Cale: So now you're the boss. You're the King of Bob.
Akima: Can't we just call it "Earth"?
Cale: No one said you have to live on Bob.
Akima: I'm never calling it that.

Keep shiny!
