Serenity Leader has posted the following on the Versal board:

"Prior to going up in theaters, the trailer will make an online debut. Where and when will be posted on the Browncoats site close to the time of the online debut, so you will all be able to see it BEFORE it is in theaters."

From:

um.viewtopic&t=9908

---
Given what's said in the thread, and what Joss said at Wizard World recently, I doubt that the trailer's theatrical debut will be with Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'll still be going to see it though.

I don't want to see it at all. So are you saying that I don't have to hide in the lobby and have someone call me once the previews are done if I go to see Hitchhiker's?

Your only trouble is that once it hs aired, you won`t be able to avoid things that have been shown in the trailers.

I`m interested to see what bits they choose to show, maybe it will be like the teaser that leaked onto the net from one of the comic cons - all action or maybe they might go for something a little more subtle with some humour

The trailer is still going to be attached to Hitchhikers (in the US - not sure about the UK release though) - but, it will be online before then.

If it's online before Hitch-hiker's, though, they really don't have very long to put it up...

Probably not, but get ready to quickly close your eyes, put your fingers in your ears and repeat "la-la-la" over and over just in case.

Man, I can't wait to watch it. I've heard that it WILL NOT be the same as the ComicCon trailer, so hopefully they'll have some more stuff. In any case, I'm hoping that it'll be a little better quality than the version I have. ;)

My guess is thatit will be on the www.apple.com/trailers website after an official launch on the www.serenitymovie.com website - I do hope they mix a blend of humour & action into the trailer.

The trailer when it`s released will mostlikely be put in the `AV Room` 1st (for those who have signed up to the Browncoats) - but I expect the front page to change when it gets closer to Serenitys release

Trailer will be online within 2-3 weeks.

It's edited by Universal, but Joss has seen it for approval etc.

Mild spoilers.

Will be up on WhoIsRiver.com around same time in case main trailer sites die from demand.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I can't wait to see the trailer. I had mixed feelings about seeing it and getting any spoilers, but my need for a Firefly/Serenity fix beat out my desire to avoid spoilers.

If you want to avoid anything of a spoiler nature, then you will avoid the trailer because that may `spoil` your enjoyment of what is to come - I hate this "I don`t want to have spoilers" on the one hand but then "I want to see the trailer" on the other, it`s a bit contridicting - by seeing the trailer you will `see` spoilers, that`s part of what a trailer does.

I'm not being contradictory. I don't want to read spoilers, I don't want to see the trailer, I don't want to see commercails, I don't want to see pictures from the set, I don't want to know anything before going to see the movie.

I hate when a trailer gives a lot away about a movie. Like when you know some character is going to survive a fight because there's still stuff from the trailer that he hasn't done yet. Or you know what setting the people have to go to next because it was in the trailer. It's just annoying because there's no way that's what the director wanted. It's just not the way stories should be told IMO.

I what I`m telling you is this, you can not avoid spoilers in any form - you will see the trailer, because it is the trailer - you can`t avoid it when it`s shown on TV as an advert, you can`t avoid the write ups, the pictures (already posted) - you are on a losing streak, even though you say you don`t wnat to see it, I`m pointing out that you can not avoid it unless you switch off completely TV, PC, don`t go into newsagents, walk down the street with billboards, it`s impossible - you are a fan, an as such you *want* to see it subconsiously.

Aye, Darin is correct - you're going to see things about it if you like it or not over the coming months as it's going to appear on magazine covers, bill boards, buses etc.

I agree that trailers can sometimes spoil - but I love watching them as an art form on their own!(i was tying not to say 'art form' cos it sounds so pretentious, but i couldnt think of another phrase!) The speed of imagery and use of music is often quite different form that in film and a trailer can give you a buzz considerably more than the film - of course that's what its s'posed to do - once you've bought the ticket they don't much care what you see!

i've been careful to avoid spoliers - avoiding lots of threads, only checking out the magazines that really warn you before they spoil something, like SFX. But i couldnt resist downloading the comic-con trailer. and despite the quality i was jumping around the room, squeaking with a big grin on my face for a few minutes after! trailers are part of the build up!!!

i myself am very conflicted. on one hand, i am absolutely bursting with anticipiation for the movie and can't wait to see a bit of what the movie will be like. On the the other hand i agree with above comments, i don't want to know what happens in the movie. still, i think my might still download the trailer. hopefully it might lift some of the anticiptaion plaguing my current existence. i don't know, maybe i won't. or i could. i don't know!!

I'm looking forward to it. I gotta agree with the statement that it is almost it's own "art form". I mean unlike you can't judge a book by the cover, many judge a movie by the trailer. If the trailer sucks, most like the film will to. Where I get hacked off is an awesome trailer & sucky movie! or a trailer that shows all the good stuff. Just give me a pre-view and keep the best till the end. No mercy then.

But come on!! This is Joss. Have you ever seen a preview for the next weeks Angel and said "No! now I know to much, I don't want to watch it, it's ruined!!!!" As I recall, for me each preview ie: trailer made me say "Crap! now I gotta wait a week to find out what happens."

As for the idea of "not wanting to know" I am a little that way with LOST. But I have yet to see an episode, where I said, "Yep, I knew that was gonna happen. All because I watched the trailer last week." I only get ticked when some friend of mine says "hey, dude it says in TV guide that *** is gonna *** next week" But I have to say most of the TV trailers haven't given anything away.

In fact studio's often tweak the trailers just to mess with your head. In that light it makes them entertaining.

And let's not forget those Gorramm awful trailers FOX did for Firefly, "It's a show about a space hooker & a girl in a box" Puleaeese!

Ok call me CAPTAIN TANGENT!!!

So I said all that, to say this

I went and saw Sahara at the cinema even though the trailer was trash is that where the quote `trailer trash` comes from? I thoroughly enjoyed the film, the trailer I saw just didn`t feature complete SFX (very noticable - that a helicopter wasn`t real)

It`s a good film, not Indiana Jones by any standards, but very enjoyable `Treasure Hunter` style film with a lady in distress & the world being threatened (no it`s not Tomb Raider either )

True, I may have certain things spoiled. I have seen a few still photos of the cast so far. But they haven't meant anything to me so I can pretty much put them out of my mind. If I see a trailer with some context I'm going to remember everything I saw and wait until it actually comes up in the movie.

Even though I probably will have tiny bits of spoilerish information going into the movie, I can still make every effort to avoid it. I turn the channel or whole tv off whenever a star wars commercial comes on. I know next to nothing about that and it comes out in a few weeks...I think.

So, I'm going to be on the same spoiler alert level for Serenity. If I have to stop coming to this site to avoid spoilers, I will. If I have to only watch downloaded tv with the commercials ripped, I will. If I have to stop going to movies, I will.

Important people don't do field work.

Also, don't forget that some trailers are comprised completely of deleted scenes from some of the movies they're advertising. I can't think of one offhand...oh wait, Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion's trailer did this. I know that's a crappy example, but, it does happen...I don't think that Universal would do this with Serenity, but, you never can tell...

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

I saw Sahara last night, mostly because of people here saying they enjoyed it. I had no high hopes going in based on the trailer. At first, I enjoyed it as mindless entertainment/action-adventure. Then shortly after I looked back and found just so many problems with it. Now it's hard for me to recommend it. Too many holes, and simple things that could have been fixed, if anyone was paying attention while making the film.
Helpful hints when making a movie:
Don't show the climax in the trailer.
Don't let the sidekick outshine the "hero".
plot twist?=good, plot change half way through with out removing the elements of the old plot=bad.
If you show an object getting destroyed, don't show it later in perfect condition.
I guess if you don't think about it after you see it, it's good.
oh well, The Guide will be fun.
