I recognize I'm probably the LAST person to post on this, as we all got over it several months ago. But the original release date for the film -- April 22 -- is now upon us, and I'd just like to be the final person to say: WTF?!

The competition would have been an Ashton Kutcher movie and "The Interpreter," a film with so few thrills they couldn't even find ONE to put in the trailer-- a trailer which, by the way, hasn't changed since it first came out over two months ago. Same audience as "Serenity?" Hardly.

A great, big, rollicking sci-fi movie is just what we need right now, and yes yes yes, there IS "Hitchhikers Guide" coming on April 29th, but that was bumped up from its original release date of May something. Bleargh.

I'm mostly over it, and stuff... I'm just saying.

We would have kicked Ashton's scrawny untalented butt.

Yeah, but just think how much more people are going to be in the mood for a great sci-fi movie after Star Wars...

Problem is Serenity would get Swamped by StarWars if it aired in April (2 weeks prior to StarWars) - much better to come in months afterward with something fresher than Starwars (as long as they don`t hype it up as "Startrek & Starwars is over! now come and meet the New Starwars in the new frontier"

and don't forget an eldless summer of movies that don't deserve to see the light of day, The new Herbie movie? does Lindsay Lohan really need more screen time...no.

One more thing... Serenity ain't ready.

Now, had they not changed the release date I'm sure it would be. But with the change Joss & Co. have more time to tweak it based on screenings, finish the score, etc.

Not to mention the utter lack of competition on the new date. Sometimes, change is good. Even if it is painful.

On the topic of release dates, there's an article on whedonesque.com mentioning that the UK release has been brought up by a month to October :)

If the producers change one FRAME of the film based on "screenings," I will drive out to Los Angeles and punch them all in the face.

Joss didn't need "screenings" for his TV shows or comic books, and it was "screenings" that made Alien: Resurrection what it is today. Screenings can bite me.

I agree with everything else you said, though. I just feel strongly about that one thing. All the best.

Addendum:

Just wanted to give this one final bump, as we arrive here on April 22. The trailer is only a few days away from appearing on this fancy-lookin' "Intarweb," and I'm about three stages beyond giddy.

You know what I'm absolutely zero percent giddy for? "The Interpreter," "A Lot Like Love," and "King's Ransom."

Okay, so I'm medium-giddy for "Kung Fu Hustle," but I better not find out it's related to "Serenity" getting bumped. I mean, cultish directors, no-big-name stars, gigantic media blitz required? Nooooo, nothing in common THERE.

XOXO

Come on everyone, buck up! In just 161 days the BDM will be here and none of this will matter. It's coming, just be patient.

'Course, if they delay it again....

'Serenity' is the kind of movie that will need to find and build an audience,
sandwiched between 'Sin City' and 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' there were some fears that an unknown factor like 'Serenity' could get lost in the shuffle...

it is hard on us, who are waiting for the movie with baited breath,
but hopefully the studio will be right and 'Serenity' will have a chance to be a stand out hit in September.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Keep your eyes peeled. Does the trailer say "September 2005"? Yes? Good. No? Bad.
