It might even be fair to blame Joss for this one. Surely he knew he was writing something that would appeal to a more patient audience. Maybe he just figured that viewers are viewers and Fox wouldn't care. But the big difference with drawing an older crowd, IMHO, is that we're a little harder to manipulate with quick flashy advertising. It takes time to draw a crowd when you're talking about the something with the subtle depth of Firefly, and even more when the likely demographic is older.

If Joss had been up-front with Fox about this issue from the beginning, they might have taken a different approach toward launching the show. More likely they'd have lost interest in the project, and I suppose that was the dilemma he was faced with. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

This is a wonderful site. Sometimes I don't get here for days on end. Other times, I'm online as much as possible following threads (such a diverse, fascinating group of people here!) or reading the superb fan fiction--usually weekends because I'm a middle school teacher and am always exhausted at night. I always watch an episode of Firefly before I go to sleep, often watch several discs a day on vacations, or weekends. I've downloaded the mp3's onto my iPod so I have Firefly as company along my daily 65 miles-one-way commute. I've bought Firefly and Serenity t-shirts and sweatshirts, made up episode-related crossword puzzles for my own amusement, dabbled in writing fan fic, went to WonderCon to see Joss, Nathan, Adam, and Summer, recruited family members and...and..it goes on and on.

Anyway, that's my story. By the way, I'm 60.
