NOOCYTE

Hello, all;

Just in case others have not stumbled across this, there is an address for Feedback on the Fox main site, to which I have been sending messages fairly regularly. That address is: askfox@foxinc.com

Many of you probably know about this, but, on the off-chace that some of you don't, I thought I'd put it in a central location. Here is a sample of the sort of thing I have been sending, in case others would like to use it as a template:

Dear Fox;

I have been following the developments on the production of Firefly, and am dismayed. It does not apear that Fox is going to give this fine show a chance to find its audience by producing a full season. This is a great pity and a great waste, as this show was (and, in the hearts and minds of its fans, still is) a rare and unique gift from Joss Whedon, Tim Minear, a stellar cast and crew, and, of course, Fox to intelligent, discerning viewers.

Given that the sets are down, the actors' contracts have expired, and other networks have passed on this opportunity, I am writing to plead for at least a last airing of the shows which were completed (including the three unaired episodes, please).

I realize the Sweeps is not the time to do this. I know that Fox is riding high in the ratings right now, and this is not the time to risk dragging down ad rates by taking any chances. However, as a Summer replacement, a re-airing of Firefly would be wonderfully suited, and, I'm confident, exceptionally well-received.

I'm sure that, with proper promotion, Firefly's viewership would be not inconsiderable, and indeed might surprise you. Along these lines, do consider that a very active, organized and vocal fan-base, spread out across this country would provide a substantial amount of free promotion for you (I know I will!). Please take this into consideration, and do not underestimate the impact which a concerted fan push can have.

Thank you for your consideration of this request.

Sincerely;

My name, and some demographic info (sex, age, marital status, profession, and approximate income)

Hope this helps, and that we might at least have the grim satisfaction of crashing Fox's servers

Keep flyin'!

P.S. Hope nobody minds me volunteering them for the task of spreading the word, when/if the time comes!

I like it! It's a positive sounding message with zero negativity. Whether or not Fox actually listens to such messages is doubtful, HOWEVER I think it's not a bad idea. I have already written one or two messages to Fox, tough I have not received a response (and I don't imagine I will) I still think it's worth a try. Maybe we should put in our demographics "Amount of money willing to spend on Firefly paraphernalia and advertisers of Firefly: $100 (or whatever). Just to give them the idea of how much money they’d be missing out on. Merely a thought. I shall compose a letter in the next few days and post it here, just because.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Very well worded NOOCYTE.

Have you received any responses to these letters yet?

Thanks for the tip NOOCYTE!

Here's the e-mail I just sent off:

Dear Fox,

I never write letters such as these but I feel I need to in this case. I implore you to give Firefly another chance, perhaps re-airing the episodes or airing the 3 unaired episodes. This show is a quality show full of wit, humor, excitement, compassion and humanity...what our world needs right now. It is an intelligent and gentle show that is a good addition to your current lineup. There is nothing like it on television right now. It has been a long time since a show such as this has captured my attention. Just when I had given up on Fox. I had a reason to turn on the television. I believe that this show has the ability to reach out to audiences beyond just your "typical" Science Fiction fan especially seeing that I'm not a big Science Fiction fan myself. It certainly has the potential to become as big as Star Trek given the quality of the writing and the stories. And there have been so much positive feedback from professional television reviewers. It should should be given a fair chance to find an audience given the poor timing of the original release. If you search the web, you will find that this show has a considerable fan base, even with only the few episodes that aired. This alone shows that Firefly is something special. Please reconsider your decision. Be visionary. Be bold. This show will rocket to the stars if given the chance.

Thanks for kind words, folks; glad my little missive passed muster!

Haven't gotten any kind of response. Didn't expect to; kinda like messages in bottles that way. Heck, on top of these e-mails, I've sent postcards to Gail Berman, I've sent a thank you letter to Coca Cola for sponsoring FF (had I more motivation and time, I'd've hit more of the sponsors). And I NEVER do this kind of thing. Firefly's something special enough to merit this kind of energy.

One can only hope that the "Something" which Nathan was kind enough to tell us was near, turns out to be our Heart's Desire...

Keep writin' those notes, though!

Keep flyin'!

Nice letter and all, but do you really consider Firefly to be "gentle?"

I sure didn't when Mal got his ear cut off....

My mum doesn't think so either!

Has YOUR mom seen Firefly, lately?

I certainly DO consider Firefly gentle. The way in which it treats its central characters is with a gentle respect and dignity. There may be violent events that occur but the point is that they do not define the show by any stretch of the imagination. The show is about the strength of the bonds of these people whom fate has thrown together. And I think this is portrayed with a surprising tenderness for a show of this "type". That's the point I was making. Compare this show to Fastlane or Joe Gazillionare and tell me this show is not gentle?
