YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Not sure what British film distributors mean by "preview" but, in the USA, everyone please be aware of the following: When a cinema sells a ticket that entitles the purchaser to watch a movie that's been out for awhile plus a new one before its published release date, the ticket sale is credited 100% to the released film, with no credit counted for the new one. If you buy a ticket to a sneak preview of Serenity, before its release date, neither Serenity nor Joss Whedon will get any credit for the sale, even if you have no intention of watching the movie with which it is sneaking.

Keep the Shiny Side Up . . . (wutzon) String Cheese Incident, "Turn This Around", from "On the Road - Summer '03"

I did not know that.

As far as I understand previews in the UK you just go to see the film as soon as the cinema receives the reel, rather than wait for the official release date - I've never seen them done as "deals" associated with other films - but to be honest I have no idea how the money works.

My local doesn't do previews anyway - they probably won't even get serenity til a few months after its out because their so small and nasty! I 'spose it doesnt matter as long as you go and see it lots and lots of times when it is officially released - which is what I'm planning!

Huzzah! I knew I'd never be able to hold out against spoilers for an entire month...

As to the preview thing, I second huitzil. AFAIK in the UK a preview showing works just as ordinary showings do: one film, one ticket, no waiting.

/ pure intentions, juxtaposed /

Woohoo! It will help UK sales as there will be less time for pirates to distribute it before people can see it legally. We usually only get releases that close to the American release if it's a really big film so UIP must think it's good.

I think the way previews work is that they charge extra for the privilege of seeing it early. It is a clever trick to get more money.

Nope. My cinema usually has previews around 3 days in advance (not sure how 'preview' the previews you're thinking of are) and they're the same price as a normal ticket. Cheaper, in fact, because you go to see it when it's not peak hours (i.e. weekend evenings etc)
