I think I may have introduced myself in the wrong spot, so I'll try again. Here's my original post.

And yet another "newbie" here. A northern(Canadian) Browncoat and crew.

I found out about Firefly by stumbling on metion of it while surfin' the web for blueprints of spaceships(I know pretty geeky but I won't tell if you don't.)( I blame it on my drafting background). I actually found 2 shows I hadn't heard of, Firefly and SAAB. I took a chance and bought the Firefly box set ($60.00 CAN), and sat down one night with a fellow softballer and our wives, both of which aren't big space movie fans. We proceeded to watch a few episodes together every Friday. The end result is 4 Rabid fans. And we're working on recruiting more.

Important people don't do field work.

Welcome and congratulations on finding this site! I don't think you'll be disappointed by most anything you find here, occasional troll aside, and hell, even they're amusing from time to time...

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Wow, I'm still sorta new here, yet I think I've seen at least ten new people since I found this place.
Welcome, and remember, you may be safe at 2nd, but remember what Dorothy said as she klicked her shoes together?

Later, eh?

Thinks he's funny Chrisisall

I'm a newbie too!

I'd heard about this Joss Whedon space opera thingy, but had not seen it on TV (that's what we in the UK call television, I think you people in the US refer to it as "terrestrial TV").

Then, all of a sudden-like, a mate of mine lends me a DVD and says, "I think you'd enjoy this. You're a Buffy fan aren't you?"

So, lo and behold, having worried that there would never be another Buffy or Angel, here I was in Whedon heaven! It even has writers like Jane Espenson writing the "Shindig" episode! Marvellous stuff!

So I then look out for info on the next series.... Yes! Heard this before, haven't you? What are Fox playing at? I won't start, because I'd never stop. But you just get into the characters and begin to fancy Kaylee and then no more Firefly. I don't know!!!

Anyway, I have now decided to make it my quest to get all my mates watching this lone DVD set so that they will be all keen come September and the movie release. Though being in the UK, we'll probably get to see the movie 4 months after it's general release in the US. Why is that?

Did we do something particularly nasty to you Americans in the past? Ah! Yes! We did, didn't we! There's a small matter of a War of Independence, I suppose! But hey, America, it's a hell of a long time to hold a grudge! Can't we see Serenity in September as well? Please! Please! We'll release Hitchhikers early for you if you release Serenity early to us! How about it? Deal? Go on Joss, you know you want to....

Dent.. As in the late Dent, Arthur Dent. It's a sort of threat, you see? I've never been terribly good at them myself, but I'm told they can be terribly effective!

The term 'Space Opera' is an American term as well.

However if it must be labeled in a sub genre, I think most of U.S. Browncoats prefer Firefly to be referred to as a Space Western.

Or the greatest Emmy winning, Hugo placing, Golden Reel nominated, Saturn stomping, Cinescape thieving creation by, The Man:
For the Fan.

Then booted by the devil.

I just call it “My Precious”

Now then, you said something about a war of independence...

Didn't that star Will Smith?

As soon as I can get my hands on a DVD set!!

Y'know...the funny thing is, I don't ever remember hearing about either series when they were on TV. I try to at least watch an episode of any new space series. Farscape is too close to Muppets in space for me and the other show ummmm..."Hercules in Space"?? Or Andro something. I just never got around to Babylon5, summer is sports for me. Hardly any TV. Oh don't let me forget Stargate McGuyver.....

But Firefly...That was riveting. Very rich 3 dimensional characters and Joss didn't see the need to beat us over the head with special effects. FOX is a throw back to the studios of the '50's and if they keep it up, we're all gonna be saying FOX who?

Welcome!
Your wish is Joss' command. UIP moved up the UK release date to Oct 7th, only one week after the US release.

And we just call it "TV" too.

The trailer will be online this next Tuesday and will probably be attached to Hitchhiker in the theater.

Not a problem. Had to be done. Thanks for noticing. Was it you that brought it to the attention of this site? If it was Thanks! Helped me find you guys.

I'm a sucker for crossovers and I had to see a few of my favorites ships side by side.

I made my own chart, but would to see it done quasi-professionally.

Cool dude that Joss Whedon-y guy! He obviously recognises a growing UK fanbase when he sees one. Maybe Mr Stewart-Head got him to see sense!

I think we would all like to think that it is out of the kindness of their hearts but, it is probably in response to the ever present piracy threat.

Since there seems to be a good demand in the UK, it would make no sense to let pirated copies have an entire month to make it to Europe.

Much better to shorten the window between the US and the UK release.

:)

It was probably Wydraz/GreenFaerie but I couldn't find the original thread. It's cool whoever it was. The way you found fireflyfans has to be pretty unique.
