Would anyone who was fortunate enough to have already seen the movie care to comment on the depth of the spoilers contained in the trailer? I ask as a public service for the rest of us who want to watch it, would like to remain reasonably spoiler-free, but don't mind learning a little about the film through its viewing.

I thank you in advance.

If you only watch it *ONCE* at normal speed, I'd say the spoilers are mild (assuming you already watched all the DVDs)

If you're like me and ruin it for yourself by watching the trailer 20 times in a row, frame-by-frame, and analyze what each scene and word might mean, then there are actually a moderate number of spoilers.

I've been told by those who have seen a pre-release screening that there none of the major surprises in the plot are given away by the trailer.

P.S. if anyone posts a spoiler without marking the thread/text, please contact me via my user profile and I'll move/fix the post.

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

Shiny, this is good to hear! I am still a little hesitant to watch the trailer, but your input does set my mind to some ease. It is good to know that after only one viewing, it is reasonably certain to say that nothing major would be given away. Thanks for your input!

----- Shameless Bump -----

I really would love to get some more feedback on this topic. I prefer posting at this site rather than the official movie page since FFF has so much more to offer on a daily basis and tends to attract people who prefer sharing their ideas/art/literature over building up silly 'points' on useless posts.

With that said, can any of you flans add some meaningful contributions to this topic?

I don't think this is a spoiler. Just people I didn't see in the trailer. But just in case:

I didn't see Kaylee or Book.

That's not a spoiler. Just an odd choice.

The trailer made certain choices to make the movie seem more like a main-stream action/sci-fi movie and less of a western. But that's just becuase trailers have always tried to make a movie seem more like one genre or another. My point is that if you get worried that element X or person Y isn't in the movie becuase they weren't emphasized in the trailer, don't worry. It's just the marketing, the core of the movie is still Joss.

Unless you're really paranoid about spoilers I would watch the trailer if I were you. You will probably get ideas about certain plot points, but I doubt it spoils any huge revelations in the movie. And it's a lot of fun to watch and will get you excited. The downside is that watching it will make you want to see the movie tomorrow!

GOTKAYLEE

In response to Outrager:

On my third viewing I noticed two small moments where Kaylee is on the bridge with the rest of the crew. I never saw Book, though.

Well, I figured I'd see it in theaters eventually, so I might as well get it over now. I mean, maybe if it was coming out tommorow it'd be a different story, but do any of us think we can avoid seeing the trailer for 157 days? If so, great, but I know I don't have that much willpower. Anyway, it's not as spoilerish as many trailers, but it will spoil a little bit of what happens.

I hope you're right...
I hope it'll be rerun with the movie premiers..
and by the end of the Summer will be played on our TV sets!

I think they clearly played up the action movie aspects,
but I don't take that to mean that there won't be any comedy or character development
(this is JOSS we're talking about after all)
Just as there were people missing or barely seen in the trailer,
but we know they'll be in the film...
(Joss even said everyone would have their moments)

I am SOOOOO excited about this film!

SHINYMOM

Couldn't see the trailer at school. (They--the evil techs--block anything that uses up bandwidth.) So I bought tickets for Hitchhiker's for Friday morning at 12:01 for seven people. Now that I've seen the trailer at least five times, I hope, hope, hope that I'll see it in the theater. Any Fresno Browncoats planning to be there (Edwards) for the first showing?

The trailer is super shiny. It doesn't give anything away--at least I didn't think so, but then I'm not the most analytical of folk. I know I'll watch it right up until September 30. (Ya gotta realize I got the DVD's in December and probably have watched some episodes 20 times. Or maybe I just think that's a lot...?)

Are there any Fresno Browncoats? I should start a thread.

"Look at the pretties!"

Oh my god!!!!!!!!

It is amazing, I haven't seen the film and so I can't really comment for spoilers. The trailer doesn't show anything (with one normal full-screen viewing) I didn't want to see which was:

1) Relationship stuff
2) Death or injury to our BDH
3) Damage to Serenity

The trailer does give away (at least one of) the major plot points and action scenes although I would be amazed if Browncoats hadn't worked it out already.

One final thought, if you don't want to see sets, outfits and cool effects then I would avoid this trailer like the plague. The trailer is obviously tailored to people that like action-films and this is effects heavy - some moments in the film may be spoiled because they show effects. I haven't seen the film though so I can't know for certain.

I really should get me a signature

First, thank you all for you input. It was very helpful and certainly makes this spoiler-shy fan interested in viewing the trailer.

With that said, however, I feel inclined to pass on the comments I received from another fan of whom I introduced to the series. While discussing whether or not to watch the newly released Serenity trailer, this was said:

"To this day I still regret watching the Star Wars Episode One trailers and nitpicking over details as much as I did. True it was a sweet trailer, but if I had not watched it, I might have been much more shocked to see the second blade come out of Darth Maul's lightsaber. That would have been a cool moment to experience in the theater for the first time."

While Episode I ultimately disapointed me, I had to agree with the statement about the nifty double lightsaber and I got to thinking about how much my own avid viewing of the trailer contributed to my ruining of the movie.

Thus, despite my own desires, I think I will be abstaining from the trailer, at least for the time being. Unfortunately, I missed getting a ticket to the sneak preview in Boston (it sold out in less than 7hrs, for crying out loud!), so my desperation/exasperation might increase exponentially come May 5th.

Thank you all once again.
