They look to me like medical tools.

I doubt if they are either torture or medical tools. There are way too many ridges. Can you imagine cleaning the blood out of all those little places? Becasue of all that decorative work, I'm thinking they are ceremonial items. Perhaps ceremonial torture devices, but perhaps something else. It's hard to tell without some idea of scale.

My first thought was jewelery. The one thingy with the circular part could be a ring of some kind. Or it could by a hypodermic needle.

It also seems to me that all of those items somehow fit together and go into the cylinder on top. That has the look of a carrying case.

I guess we will just ahve to wait a while to find out. Anybody else have a guess?

Tieka,

Actually they sort of remind me of those tools used by the plastic surgeon in Terry Gilliam's Brazil. Though you are right in saying that there are too many ridges for that.

OK, I've got it. On this video:

http://www.fox.com/firefly/video/goodies.htm

these gadgets appear on the same table as the weapons. I'm betting they're weaponmaker tools.
