GTHING

Hey, you know, I want the BDM to be a hit too. I want a huge demand for the TV series seeing that no rerun has ever been shown in the United States. I want Fox to realize how they screwd us. But I want it to be sold properly to newcomers; I want them to get so excited about the BDM that they want more. And, you know, they'd have fourteen episodes to watch afterward.

I'll be ready with the Mandolin! I've been planning on learning how to play it anyways!

Some messages are already blaming the studio for what the writers think are the negatives in the movie like the sound in space. Remember all of the comments from Joss that the movie studio was no where to be seen during the creation of the movie? Be careful about blaming what you don't like on the studio. This one's Joss's baby. It's not going to be so easy to blame the studio for the movie and the trailer's failings like it was to blame F-X for the low ratings and premature death of Firefly.

Hey, G'Thang!

Y'know, I posited some months back that a SciFi Channel marathon of the thirteen Firefly episodes this 'Summer of Serenity' would be a perfect way to drum up the movie. While F*x TV have the vise on our danglies as far as new episodes are concerned, there should be nothing that precludes Vivendi-Universal from licensing the already-made eps and showing them on their cable outlet.

I think that would be pretty sweet: "Firefly on SciFi"... With lots of interviews with cast and creator, and behind the scenes footage from the movie set (which could then be used on the eventual Serenity DVD release).

Promotionally,

zoid

...especially since the trailer's an overwhelming smash all across the Internet right now. It tops Yahoo's search lists, and several others. Purists may be complaining, but the world wants Serenity because of the buzz since the trailer's release.

I'd have to say that the trailer has succeeded beyond anyone's wildest expectation. See ya' at the theatre...

I am not worried about the movie's success actually. From the financial side that is
I so wish it to be THE surprise movie blockbuster 2005 (not a surprise to us Browncoats, but to the industry).
And I want to know that the execs at Fox will eat their hearts out for cancelling the show!

Am I worried about the FoF (Feeling of Firefly)? Yes, I am. But like I said, I will go and watch it to form my opiniion about the BDM.

I have faith in Joss that he will weave an interesting story and I know that he knows how to tell it.

My worries are more about the technical side of the movie.

I actually can not imagine a 10-minute space battle without cuts to ship interiors, dialouge, people being flung from left to right, right to left, shouting, sirens blaring, radio transmissions crackling through the comm station AND the sound of explosions inside the ship, sound of impacting debris on the hull, sound of slugs hitting the armour.
(All this with some fitting musical score of course)

But I would love to see (or better hear) the difference when they cut to the outside, the overall view of the battle.
Music continues, no sound effects from explosions and all the stuff I mentioned above.

I would love that, giving the people the impression to once be in the middle of the battle and the next moment (cut) being outside, seeing the vastness of space, seeing the big battle but realizing that it is insignificant regarding space.

Cut back to the (or a) ship: accustic mayhem!

I just want at least 3 movies and pray for a return to TV (preferably on SciFi Channel, next year). I would gladly sacrifice a virgin for that (if I could only find one), and I'd even more gladly sacrifice 'sound in space' to realize that dream.

I exactly know what you mean, I am torn between "More Firefly" and "More Firelfly, but as close to the original as possible".

And as you can see, the Sound in Space Issue is the only thing that bothers me about the trailer.
(Except the absence of Book in it)

And to that opinion I can agree for the most part.
Box Office Success = More Firefly/Serenity
Box Office Desaster = Not likely (but would mean "No more Firefly/Serenity)

YES! This is such a great start of the marketing for Serenity. And it didn't even cost Universal more than a trailer

Now let us keep the buzz going!

See ya,

As I stated in one of the posts above, I fully expect a few of these 'silent' quick shots as well, and interspersed throughout the movie. About the only thing I'd change is "Music continues". If it must, I'd take it way down low (volume-wise) -- more of a subliminal single harmonized note or chord (perhaps a solitary violin?) -- then pick the pace back up as we got back in the thick of the fighting.

Still, I like your poetic description...

Well, I guess the music actually has to continue (one of the things I can accept even with a "No Sound in Space" position )

What about this:
Inside the ship, in the heat of the battle some fast paced music to intensify (sp?) the dramatic moment, on the cut to the outside some still relatively fast paced music, only this time the theme is carried by some chinese string instruments at a lower volume.

How does that sound?

Too bad I can not use hands and feet and hum the tunes running through my head when trying to describe my idea in a written form

But I think you know what I am trying to bring across :)

See ya,
Gavida

YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

I thought I might respond to each of the many points raised by Zoid, but I'm too depressed, so I'll leave it @this:

I'm gonna go to the movie, & Joss will pull me into the story. But when there's an exterior scene supposedly set in space with source sound, I won't be in the story, I'll be sitting in a cinema thinking "Why the FOX did I get a large soda? Again". When the scene, or @least the source sound, is over, Joss will get me back into the story. I don't know how long it will take, but why should it have to happen @all?

As for going back to the BDM again & again, if Joss is going to squander an important part of the legacy of Firefly just to join the "me too source-sounds-in-space" brigade, I think I'd rather watch my DVDs the following week, to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

Keep the Shiny Side Up . . . (wutzon) Nothing. I'm serious about how much this depresses me.

SERGEANTX

If there is any sound in space, I really don't think it's going to be used like many of us have feared. Everything I've read, despite the highly edited trailer, indicates that any sound effects during space shots are either relative to the ship (re-entry and the like) or at the very least limited and meant to accent space action, not to prop up tiresome space battles.

I think too much has been made out of the notion that the sound will be added to satisfy low attention spans. Joss knows his audience and it sounds like Universal is content with that. (and yes, this is a change of opinion on my part)
