EDIT:

LOCATION: Fuzzy's Place (Google map link at end of this thread)

TIME: 6ish (early stragglers welcome)

For ticket holders and non-ticket holders alike!

/EDIT

Hey!

Any other Atlantites want to meet up at a bar or such a couple of hours before the screener on the 5th of May?

I'm not too familiar with Chamblee, but I do remember there being a lot of places to grab a drink and some food near the theatre...

If it sounds like a good idea, we can ask the members on the OB as well; would love to get to know the folks I'm going to have a religious experience with.

As far as the actual establishment, I'll edit that into this message if someone who knows the area has a good idea.

Weeeee!!!!!!

How about a tailgate party instead? We all pull up to the parking lot with food and munchies. Heck we're all going to be there early anyhow to get good seats

Another question I would like to ask is what are the plans for Dragon Con in early Sept? Im sure Whedon and Co, since they are all guests, will be presenting some tupe of PR material.

REYVNDARKNIGHT,

I don't know - there is always talk on the OB's chat room, but I'm assuming it is going to be big and that we'll get more details in August. I know that there is a strong org of browncoats associated with DragonCon and I'm sure they'll have some crazy things planned.

Update: On the OB, we're leaning toward a place called '57th Fighter Group' which looks pretty awesome, but is a 10-15 minute drive away. That's a bit far, but it doesn't look like there are a lot of other things nearby this theatre. I'll edit the original message when a decision is made.

Let me please re-iterate: weeeee!!!!!!

Some of you Atlanta people know Joe Campbell. This preview is happening on his birthday and I am looking for two tickets as a present to him. (Yes, gorram it, I found out about it too late to get them myself.)

Anybody help?

I would be up for meeting up before the screening or at a bar. I don't, however, have tickets, so I may steeped in jealousy, but I'd still be up for hanging out.
Don't yet know what the Dragon Con plan is, but I know that I've got my four day pass and my reservation at the Marriott!
I'll keep an eye out for you guys at the theatre Thursday night. Um... bring extra tickets???

The Regal 24 is where the screening is being shown, right? There's not much in the way of watering holes in the immediate area, least that come to my mind. I'm willing to show up and hopefully bum a ticket ( please? ) or just to meet and greet fellow Browncoats. I live a couple of exits down from the theatre, so I can name a few places in the area. Best if we get a general idea of how many are gonna show up.

P.S. Just as an aside - Atlantites? As a native, I've not heard that one before. Atlantians, I beleive, is the accepted term. (j/k) hee hee

Everyone is welcome of course, ticket holders or not. For my part I hope a miracle happens and ya'll score as-many-tickets-as-your-hearts-desire, but regardless of that fancy, I believe we'll all have a rollicking good time up to the showing.

At the moment I'm jockeying between this and the OB to see what people are thinking of as far as a locale is concerned (it's a toss up between chancing-the-parking-lot and 57th Fighter Group right now I think). I'll make a definative edit as to the consensus on Monday afternoon, which will keep this thread bumping until that time at least.

Auraptor: since you know the area (yeah, I was pretty wrong about 'I think there are a lot of places nearby'... duh) - what do you think? Is the 57th Fighter Group a good option? Or the parking lot (I've had bad experiences tail-gating at a movie parking lot, but that was in a different state)? Maybe something else?

P.S. A part time hobby of mine is word assassintry, so 'Atlantites' was semi-intentional; I figured it was better than Atlantarinies, Atlantarians, or Atlantabantafofantas.

Despite its notoriety, I've never BEEN to the 57th! I can easily find out more though. The Regal parking lot is pretty wide open, as the theatre stands alone on this huge plot of land. On a Thurs nite, if the weather is fine, it should be ok. For a parking lot.

Other spots which come to mind are:
Locos Pub- Located on N. Druid Hills and Briarcliff. Neat Sports hang out w/ awesome wings.

Fuzzys Place- An ATL dive of significant acclaim. Awesome cajun menu w/ live music. (City's best martinis- I'm told) Located on N.Druid Hills, but on the western side of I-85.

Scores Another Sports bar on Clairmont, one exit closer to Regal than N.Druid right near I-85. I have no idea what this place is like, having never been.

Atlantabantafofantas hee hee!

I can vouch for Fuzzy's. One of my favorite local singers used to perform there on Monday nights, so I visited there pretty regularly. I've never been to the 57th or Scores. There are a handful of bars and bar & grills (and no - I'm not referring to THOSE ones) on Cheshire Bridge, which is three exits South of the theatre. Another North Druid Hills option is The Rusty Nail. It's a standard sports bar. Decent burgers. And yeah - the parking lot is massive and often quite crowded. You could probably get away with tailgating ok there. I personally would be up for hanging out close to the theatre in hope of scoring a ticket! But that's just me...

Unforunately it seems the movie parking-lot is going to be out of the picture like I feared. A user on the OB said he had a long talk with the manager from Regal and that the manager had made it very clear that the police would question anyone who wasn't standing in line for the movie, and that line would form no earlier than 2 hours before the showing. That may have been grand-standing from the manager's part but it does sound like they won't take kindly to the people coming to hang about in the parking lot (*grumble* ungrateful little... *grumble*).

Auraptor, thanks for the extra options as far as dining/drinking establishments are concerned... Between ya'll and the OB I'll have to let you guys decide... What do you think the best place would be for a bunch of people with, uhhmmm, geekish leanings, to hang out and walk around in comfort? I'm thinking some place where we can stand as well as sit - so we aren't divided up by a lot of booth tables or strung about a long bar that is meant more for drinking than conversing. Would love to be in a place were we can amoeba into a group without fear of scaring the locals. How would Fuzzy's be for that type of atmosphere Slaythis?

Okay, so scaring the locals is unavoidable, but a lot of them have done their fare amount of scaring me, so they kind-of deserve it.

It's been a while since I went to either Fuzzys or The Rusty Nail. Fuzzy's probably tops my list, but sometimes the parking there might be a bit tricky. Any guess as to how many we're looking at here ? I'll rely on help from Slaythis on whether 10-20(???) folks could be accommidated at either place on a Thurs nite.... around 8-ish?

If we're talking 25-? folks, then what? I'll go by those places and scope 'em out. I'm going to see HHGTTG today anyway.

Auraptor,

I really don't know; I would expect 10-20, but with this sort of thing my guess is that we'll have five people show up or fifty. If it's a logical choice, my guess is we'll have a handful of people showing up before the movie that never hit the boards. If you have a chance to do a drive-by, than by all means, please do; would be wonderful - we'll see what we all think on Monday.

I'm not too worried about it - anything more than three people will be a good time, and if we do get a lot of people, it *is* a Thursday, and whatever we choose would be happy to tackle a 'we have too many customers' problem, I believe[hope].

Sorry to be lazy, but I just posted this on the other board:

There are two more restaurant options that the folks at FFF.net have been talking about: Fuzzy's and 'The Rusty Nail'. One user said he/she may have the chance to check out those two joints in person today and report back on how well they would be for a gathering.

We want a place that will allow us to stand, chat and/or sit down, not an atmosphere that forces us to divide up to booths. A lot of bars don't have a good atmosphere for non-intimate groups over six.

With that in mind, the current choices seem to be:

Fuzzy's
Rusty Nail
57th Fighter Group
Mo's Pizza

We'll make a definative decision on Monday, and bump the hell out of this message after that (thanks Jenny!). Personally, if the user at FFF.net looks at a couple of those and says one is better than the other for this sort of thing, I'll be prone to go with his/her opinion.

If any one has any other places to recommend, now is the time!

P.S. I'm assuming there are a bit of lurkers about - everyone is welcome, ticket holders or not, and this may be your only option if the 'Regal being an arse about hanging about in the parking lot' thing is true. By *no* means required, but if I could get a show of hands of how many people think they can make it, that would be vunderful. Something like 'I hope to go' would be great, as that can help me get a minimum number. Anything over three people will be a good laugh, but it'll be difficult to keep everyone happy if sixty people show up when we were expecting ten.

Uhhmm, for the record, I'm going.

Auraptor,

That is NO pressure on you to take a peak at this stuff - if you can't no worries at all... I'd try and do it, but I get lost *everywhere* and would most probably get so turned around that I wouldn't find my way back to Georgia by the 5th [and that isn't too much of an exaggeration].

If I could get my hands on a few tickets for the band and staff. I could talk to the band Emerald Rose about "maybe" playing at a prescreening party. I am a friend of theirs, though I don't want to speak for them. If any of you went to DragonCon last year you may remember them. None of them or their friends were able to get tickets. I know that they were very disapointed.

Fuzzy's would definitely be more accomodating than Rusty Nail in terms of sitting at large tables and walking around versus sitting at booths. Again, however, if there are more than 25 folks, it could get a little tight. There is a band playing that night, but they start at 9:00. I imagine we'll leave before 9 to secure a place in line? I've not been to the 57th or Mo's, so I can't speak to either of them.

Here's an idea. Fuzzy's seems to be 'the spot'. In the event we get too crowded, maybe we could suggest The Rusty Nail as an over flow site. While not next door, they're practically across the street from each other - granted, it's 5 lane Buford Highway.

So, if the movie's at 10, and folks want to be in line by 9 (or at least leave to head up to the theatre @ 9) what time are we meeting at Rusty's ?

7-7:30ish?

Just a side note - Went to see HGTTG on Sunday. Asked the ticket guy if there were any extras for the BDS on Thurs. And to my total surprise..he said ....of course he said no. Sheesh. But at least I registered some more interest.

6-ish is on the early side, but we'll have to make due. I suppose the plan is for everyone to migrate to Regal 24 and plead for extra tickets?

Yeah, 6ish is a bit early, but my assumption is everyone is going to want to line up ASAP for good seats (@ 8, which would give us two hours).

It seems that for those going to the screening that people are going to meet in the 'Atlanta Diner' afterwards to discuss the movie. I'll post more details when I can on that.

I still haven't got a hold of fuzzy's . I'm not worried however - it sounds like they can take up to 25 people on the fly pretty easily, and I doubt we'll go over that number. I'll see if I can get a hold of them this afternoon.

I'll do my best to show up by 6, but given all of the traffic I'm going to face I may be there closer to 7... we'll see.

My recomendation - When you walk into Fuzzy's you are in a central bar area. There is a room to the right where live music takes place, and there is a room to the left where there are dining tables and such. At 6:00, the live music room on the right might still be kind of empty (band doesn't start until 9:00.) In fact, I think there is a sort of enormous table in the center of that room. That might be an ideal place to set up camp for an hour or two. And if not, although Fuzzy's can easily accomodate 20 people, it's not that big overall - so you should be able to find folks without too much effort. If it helps any, I may be there a bit early - I'll be wearing a black t-shirt with Serenity (the ship - not the movie logo) on the front. I also have a beard and glasses. I can't be missed. See you tonight!!!
