Does anyone know of or is anyone interested in a Virginia (Richmond area) Shindig of sorts? I happened to notice a sign on a local movie theater saying that you can rent out the building. I started thinking how cool would it be to show the whole series and/or possible the movie! I called and got all the information but it would be costly on my part so I figured I would ask if anyone else is doing anything in the area.

If not would anyone want to go? When would be best? Movie and/or the series?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Hey Allmad, I am in the Richmond area and organize the local Firefly get togethers (formely the Meetups but we broke w/ Meetup.com). There are ten members in my group, but as of right now there is no plans for a Shindig to kickoff the premiere of the BDM. I and others were planning on going to the party that Static is hosting in Raleigh, NC. You can see info on this thread for that party:

I am all for a local Shindig in this area if we can cooridinate things and get enough interest going.

Ashland has a vintage movie theater that is only open for special events (fundraisers, birthday parties, and such) and I thought it would be a great place to hold a shindig. I called and got the pricing information but I’m still waiting to hear about showing the movie there. When the building is rented it is for the full day so the entire series could be shown. I would be more than happy to call other local theaters to get information. Static’s party sounds great but there is no way I would be able to go out of town at that time.

I think having something here would be great but it would probably take a lot to get enough interest going. I have tons of time as I work at night with very little to do. Let me know what you think and I will call around tomorrow. gudch1@hotmail.com

The biggest thing involved would be cost to rent the theatre of course. If we could get enough interest and enough browncoats to attend it would be worth it if everyone makes donations toward the cost of the Shindig.

I like the idea of having the theatre all day. We could show the series on the big screen, and being an all day event should allow those with scheduling problems to show up and spend at least some time with us.

I will email the Richmond area browncoats to gauge their interest.

Hey Umbrella! Keep watching here for updates as we decide if we can get this thing off the ground or not.

Sorry it has taken me so long to give an update on the prospect of a Richmond Shindig but I have been insanely busy. My work kind of blew up a little, no really the boiler room blew up.

Anyway. After calling every theater in the area and universal I honestly think it would be best if we went Static’s premiere party in NC. I really wanted to have a huge Shindig here but I’m just not seeing the interest in this location. If you guys think I’m wrong I would be more than happy to help out or plan but I don’t see us attracting enough people. Here are some options.

1. Private screening on opening day at Virginia Center. We would have the theater 30 minutes before and after the movie (we could buy more time but the price would go up). The theater would want a $500 fee and charge $8.50 per seat after 6pm or $6.50 per seat prior to 6pm. We would have to pay for all seats (occupied or not) and our choices would be either 126 seats or 177 seats. Also since this is opening day we would have to issue a request and they are not even going to look at it more than 45 days in advance.

2. Travel to Static’s NC BDMP together or meet up there.

3. Those of us who cannot make it to NC (myself included) could meet for dinner or drinks and then go to the movie. Or breakfast if there is a 9 am show.

4. We could always have a shindig not the day of the premiere. Like I said before there is a older theater we could rent for the day and show the series. I am still waiting for them to call me back, they are trying see if Fox will give permission for the show. The fee is $400 for a weekday and $500 for a weekend day, $125 cleaning fee (nonnegotiable). There will also be a fee to purchase the series but I don’t know what that is yet. They will not let us use or own DVD, it must come from Fox to the theater. It seats 350.

Please let me know what you think!

Allmad,

With the lack of enthusiasm on the part of the other Richmond area browncoats I think we should scrap the idea of a Richmond premiere party and just make plans to attend Static's BDMPP in Raleigh.

Hope you guys have a great time! I won't be able to make it

I will probably be the only one watching the movie here in an orange hat.
