Okay, this thread was gonna happen eventually, and, well I couldn't wait much longer! So, who's booked?

Here's the link:
http://www.starfury.co.uk/

I am, and ranking at ticket #175 I was the last person to get into the meet and greet!

So far the announced guests are...

Summer Glau
Sean Maher
Christina Hendricks
Nathan Fillion

Sounds so cool! I'm still rooting for Gina, Alan and Adam though!

Also, with the movie being released just over a month beforehand, I'm really excited about the Q & A's!! Oh soo shiny!

I don't have a ticket but I will need to be there to make sure you don't steal Summer and leave the other flans heartbroken!

On the thread itself I am just hoping we can keep coming up with new (shorter) threads for this con cos the other threads became beasts that took forever to load on my computer!

Tickets were available for sale on Sunday at the first Serenity Convention in Heathrow. And over 1/3 of the tickets were sold that day!

Yeah, we'll try and keep marking out new territory...once you get past 150...it just takes too long. Even on broadband!

And, stealing Summer? I am shocked at this, Andy, just shocked! Did you see any behviour over the weekend that indicated I might be the type of person to steal things!?

I'm so pleased she's going. I really can't wait to see her again. And I'll be so touched if she remembers me.

I'm planning my letter to her! Which you should recieve soon. I have to refrain from writing an essay lol. And I'm considering recording a short video message on my digicam to attach to the letter? Just to help jog her memory? Would that be okay?

EDITED TO ADD: Also, thank you very much for the badge! I love it, and have been wearing it ever since. Summer will always have a place in and on my heart!

Have never been to anything like this (and sadly don't know any Firefly fans to drag along) but think I'll have to try & make it to this one.

I was in the exact same position for Serenity, but I went and had the best weekend of my life.

I met quite a few peeps from her, but when I got back found out that there were so many people I didn't get to meet. I'm going to make the effort to next time, I assure you!

You definitely should try. Before Starfury: Serenity I'd only been to a one day Wolf event (Claudia Black/Wayne Pygram, Oct 2002 I think) and was completely unprepared for the scale of it. Great fun! And the guests were ace, as were all the people I met.

I got my ticket on Sunday too, but since it was estimated my ticket is in the mid-200 range I missed out on the meet and greet. Damn you and your luck, PsychicRiver! If Summer remembers you, I fear you'll not live to see the next day if you tell anyone ;)

Good guests too, if they all make it. I'd like Alan, Gina and Adam to make it too, especially Adam. I think there could be some more fighting going on over getting attention from Christina Hendricks, though ;)

Time to get planning T-shirts methinks ;)

ADDENDUM: Note To Self- ringing up about hotel rooms might be better sooner rather than later.

Sorry for asking lots of silly newbie questions...

So if the convention runs Fri-Sun, how early are things likely to start the first day? Presumably most people would arrive Thurs night?

I've had a cunning plan - have been building a website for someone and we've yet to arrange how I'll be paid. Methinks convention tickets and maybe a contribution to a hotel room sounds good...

Don't be sorry, it's fine!! Things don't officially kick off until around 7.30 Friday night. Thats the opening ceremony.

But you can register from about 1.00PM, then you can buy 10x8 photos for autographs, and tickets for photos with guests.

Hiya,

Bit of a lurker here but felt compelled to post!!! I'm planning on going to this, like Fray I've never been to a Firefly con before but I've been to plenty of Buffy/Angel ones so hopefully I'll see some people I know.

1/3 sold already? Wow that's good, do we know how many tiks are going to be sold and do I need to be quick off the mark on May 11th (i.e. are they going to sell out)?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm used to Buffy cons and in particular cons with James Marsters' selling out really quickly I'm just wondering if this is the same.

Thank you in advance
Cally

There's no place I'd rather be

You will need to book increibly quick. There are only 9 tickets in total for the con. With 3 already sold... the last 6 will go on sale on 11th May.

LOL! No I'm joking, there are usually about 800 tickets.

Im in the same boat as a few of you. Ive never really been to anything like this before but I think Im gonna have to take the plunge this time. The main problem I always seem to have is they always seem a little out of my price range. I could probably get the cash for the ticket but with hotel prices, food, autographs and the like it costs a little more than I can afford.

Everyone who goes always seems to have such an amazing time and if the cast become big damn movies stars after the film you never know this could be the last one of its type for a little while.

A quick question to one of the regulars how much does it usually cost on average everything included.

Im also hoping they'll be some screenings or even a premiere that I can get to in october.

For you, since you live so close, two nights would do it (ie the Friday and Saturday nights). For anyone else who lives further away, book that extra night (Sunday) if you can afford it, or you'll miss out on the last night's crazy party atmosphere!

TERRANELL

lol I was waiting for this thread to be posted!!

Starfury Serenity was my first ever con and it took me a long time to work up the nerve and decide to book. I was very nervous about coping, but it was so great and lots of fun. The talks were interesting and really funny, the guests were very genuine and friendly, the only sad thing was that Adam couldn't make it (I'm hoping he might make it to Squared) but it was such a pleasant surprise to see Ron, Mark Sheppard and Chris Buchanen. It was a great introduction to the world of cons, so good that we ended up getting tickets for Serenity Squared on sunday morning based solely on the Friday night and Saturday. I'm hoping it'll be just as good if not better. I believe I'm ticket number 125 or somewhere thereabouts, so in the Meet and Greet (Yay!)

Sadly we (boyf and I) didn't get much chance to talk to many people as we had to have alot of rest breaks, hopefully we'll get more of a chance at Serenity2.

As for cost, the tickets are/were £75. At Serenity we went a bit overboard with photos and 10x8s for autos etc. because I decided it was our first so we could splurge a little.

Cost really depends on what you want to buy, how many 10x8s and photos. We went to the restaurant every night as we needed to eat properly and couldn't leave the hotel so that pushed up the price for us quite a bit, but I know alot of people brought their own or went out for food. Oh and you get one free auto (personal item) in the price which is brilliant! The hotel is going to be very expensive I think, but we have to stay in the same hotel so no choice really.

I'm really babbling now!

Look how excited we all are!

I feel a teensy bit sad going on my own, but reading the thread from the April convention, it's pretty clear that we can all try and arrange to meet up once we're there. Just makes the hotel that bit more expensive if you're by yourself but what the hey.

I've never done anything like this (and am really old enough to know better!) but felt so jealous reading the recent posts & seeing all those great photos. Plus, I live really close...

Just one question (for now!), this Meet & Greet we can't go to - what exactly is that? Presumably there's still plenty of opps to see the stars even if you can't get into that?

There are aways a lot of people attending who haven't been before. I went on my own to my first ever con and decided to steward iin order to meet people and to help pass the time if I was getting bored!(As if!)Anyways, I arranged via message boards to meet people and have formed long lasting friendships with people I would never have otherwise met if I had not taken the plunge! I think its a great "hobby". I then went off on one and started running my own events which have covered Buffy/Angel/Smallville and now Firefly. I LOVE doing them because real life can be so... well... ordinary!

Quite a few came to the convention on their own but nobody was there on their own. Seriously. The nicest atmosphere possible, a new friend is just a random conversation away. I have a feeling that that first one is always a bit special but I see no reason why we shouldn't try to match it in November.

Have you seen the party list? Friday is Bollywood films(!), Saturday is 'Dress as an Alan Tudyk character' and Sunday is James Bond night which is spooky because I suggested that at the table on Sunday. Every man looks good in a tux, plus the ladies as Bond Girls... there's going to be some serious eyecatching going on that night. Although having read about what happens at some other sci-fi conventions, it wasn't quite as debauched as I was braced for. Or maybe I just didn't see it.

Unfortunately I had to work out some dates so I couldn't book at Serenity 1, so I'm missing out on the meet and greet but the Friday night party had to be a match for whatever went on upstairs then. But come next Wednesday, I'm going to be on the phone to Mr Harry and demanding a ticket.

So, to reiterate my point, if you've even got the slightest thought in your head that you might want to come, COME! You will not regret it.

nice to see lots of names I can now put faces to... and also to see that lots of people are going to sign up for the next one too!

I have a question about buying the tickets: if one is paying by the old-fashioned method of cheque not credit card, can it just be posted off asap - and to what address? Is it on the starfury website? (For some reason the website still isn't working on my computer - I know they had some problems earlier, but it could just be my dial-up).

I think you're the first person to even think about that Everyone else is all fixated on the Firefly/Serenity aspect

SPIKESBABE

Ok I've talked a friend (I think) into coming with me and she's buying the tickets Wednesday so I'll definitely be there.

In response to the party themes

Friday Night: Bollywood Films - I'm thinking a sari or something similiar.
Saturday Night: Alan Tudyk (come as a character from an Alan Tudyk film) - no idea!! Help!!!
Sunay Night: James Bond - Bond girl, hmmm I could where a body stocking and paint myself gold!!! But I'd scare the wildlife so I'm thinking Pussy Galore head to toe in leather!!!

Cally

There's no place I'd rather be
Since I found Serenity

SIMONWHO

I'm sure there will be plenty of fans of both but there will undoubtably be folks like me who haven't seen BSG and folks who adore BSG but haven't seen Firefly or Serenity. I think the sensible thing to do when these two groups meet is to hum West Side Story and have a dance off.

When I paid by cheque, they just gave me an address but also advised me to send it recorded delivery as lots of mail had gone missing. If I were you, iamzoe, I'd find some friend with a credit card, possibly someone who is already booking a ticket themselves, to buy it for you and then you could send them the money.

Oh, just realised, in November I will be gloriously brown from three weeks on the beach in Australia. I knew I had a brother for a reason.

The Alan night actually says you can go as any character from an Alan Tudyk film which leaves a lot of possibilities open. Anyone want to be an alcoholic Sandra Bullock? No? Either way, I suspect Sean just wants to make Alan feel that he is tripping, surrounded by versions of himself or previous characters (plus Alan Tudyk was in Serenity so we could easily dress up as any characters from that).

Yeah my ticket went missing in the post. I was confused as to why all of you were like...yeah, I've got mine, and I hadn't got mine after 3 months!

And I've just realised that I might have a fading shimmer of brown tan left over from a week in Majorca at the beginning of October.

Actually it'll probably all be gone by then.

Dang.

RELFEXIVE

I've only seen the mini-series of the new Galactica, and I thought it was good; but I know people who've seen the series and they say it's very good as well. Some of them are also Firefly fans, so their opinion counts more than most

A few of these friends also went to Collectormania at the weekend and met the BG guests. Opinion: nice people to meet and very easy on the eye
