Yesterday before the trailer was release DVD sales were hovering around the 200 or 150 range on Amazon.com. Since the trailer has been released online, sales have jumped all the back up to 27. I think that is awesome.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

The info I got was from the individual product pages

The Amazon.com Firefly DVD set listing:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000AQS0F/ref=pd_ts_d_2
3/002-1414800-4140011?v=glance&s=dvd&n=404276

About halfway down at the end of the product details section it lists it now as being #142 in DVD.

However it is listed as the 23rd top seller of DVDs. I have no idea what the difference is, and as far as I can tell only Amazon.com has a discepancy between the 'top seller' lists and 'best seller' lists.

Links for Amazon.ca:
http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000AQS0F/qid=1114656135/sr=8-1
/ref=pd_ka_0/701-2643991-5863556

and Amazon.co.uk:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001B3YTM/qid=1114656388/sr=
8-1/ref=pd_ka_0/202-9027537-4293460

(Although anyone thinking of ordering should use the links on the main page to support Haken and the site!)

Actually the number at the Firefly DVD Sets listing is wrong and has been stuck on 142 for a while. If you go to the top 25 sellers it is listed at 25 on Amazon.com (click on the 142 and it'll take you to that page) and here on Fireflyfans.net it is 24 which might be a little more accurate since Haken wrote a script that tracks the actual number I think and updates in real time.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Shiny news!

The trailer is driving DVD sales up again, and even though it puts money in the pocket of Fox, it is worth if for the justification that Firefly/Serenity has bright future.

Too bad you didn't know a good thing when you had it Fox.

Looks like they got the DVDs back in stock. They've gone back to 24 hour order processing. And they passed 1300 on the reviews. Still a five star ranking .

I'm half expecting another surge in DVD sales in the next month (or at least for the sales to stay high) as those who bought the set after the trailer become Browncoats and start recommending Firefly to others. Or maybe I'm just doing some wishful thinking .

Thought I'd put some numbers on that "overwhelming number of 5-star reviews." It is. As of today:

1 star - 19 (and 2 of those have 5 star comments - clicked wrong?)
2 star - 7 (and 1 of those was for mistakenly thinking it was fullscreen)
3 star - 10 (and 1 of those has a 5 star comment)
4 star - 38
5 star - 1267

The spike in sales corresponding to the trailer release is a lot more stead than I expected.

Nope - we don't. Seems to be some big fat secret.(Royalties, trade secrets, who knows what.)

Over a year ago now, the figure 300,000 units was cited in some sources. But let's face it, that was a long, long, time ago now.

It's the really big unanswered question.

Interesting, the reason I want to know is I still have the insane idea in my head that we could fund the series. $2,000,000 an episode right? So $4,000,000 for two episodes, two one hour episodes are like one two hour movie, in theory, so you might be able to sell them on DVD for the cost of a movie, $20 to $30.

$20 a DVD by 300,000 is $6,000,000. I would guess, though I have absolutely no way to know, that that would be enough for the two episodes.

Firefly is now #26 on the sales chart. We simply won't go away will we. Who would have imagined after a year and half that the DVDs would be selling so well. all nice and all, but i fear that fox is seeing most of the money, and joss and co hardly see a dime of it :(

i heard finding nemo dvd sales grossed more than at the boxoffice, 400 million.

the way firefly is selling, its making tens of millions too, wish all that money would go to universal instead so they have their 40 million investment for the movie back so joss can already start working on the sequals

In a way, that money is going to Universal. Not directly obviously. But for every person that buys a DVD, you get a new movie-goer. And the average new flan probably converts about 4-5 friends each. So this is free advertising for Universal of the very best kind. And Fox does deserve some credit for making the show in the first place. (Yeah, I know, I should stop trying to be generous and admit that they are stinking piles of poo! Ahem.)

No, only 20th Century FOX (who supported Firefly) is getting the money. The Fox Televison Network (totally different company than 20th Century) isn't seeing a dime of it.
