CHRONICTHEHEDGEHOG

Today I got spoiled. Twice. Once I could cope with but two huge spoilers in the space of 12 hours. I don't even know how it happened, just trawling through here, AICN and the OB and they just popped out at me.

Has this happened to anyone else?
How do you deal with it?
How do I not tell my friends for 5 months?

Help!

I am really sorry you got spoiled,
the official board is the WORST for spoiling,
and I'm afraid it is necessary to just stop going there...
probably the best way of dealing with it?
is to go into denial and pretend it isn't so...

I've seen the Advanced Screening but I have a lot of friends who haven't
and I have to remain very careful to keep things vague...
it is hard, I started to talk about the dispuits between fans...and then realized I couldn't even discuss that without getting too close to spoilers...

so I just keep repeating how much I loved the film,
how much I am longing to see it again,
and I am looking forward to going with my friends to see it!

It's not all THAT big a deal, is it Chronic? I mean, most of the storytelling Joss does isn't overwhelmingly original or anything. If we sat down and thought much we could probably make some pretty good guesses what's going to happen anyway. Fortunately, with the way Joss and crew do things, it's all about the way it's done, not the what. I didn't really appreciate the series eps fully until I'd seen 'em two or three times anyway. Just sayin' there's a lot more meat on the bone than plot surprises.

I think that's the problem, I'm not seeing what I know in context, just the events that occur. It stings because I don't know why it happens, just that it happens. To understand the why I need to either read more spoilers or see the film, and I can't see the film and don't want to read more spoilers! It's all very weird.

ROCKETJOCK

I saw one particular and particularly horrible spoiler -- and I can't say I didn't walk into it with my eyes open, it was clearly marked -- but just the same it burned a hole in my brain. Luckily for my sanity, just a few days later I saw another spoiler that completely contradicted the first.

Given that Joss is still editing the final release cut; and given that ten seconds worth of insert can totally change the outcome of a film (Spock touches McCoy's face, says "Remember" for example), given all this, I'm not going to stress too badly. And if I somehow luck into an advance screening, I'll consider it my duty not to spoil things for anyone else.

(Psst -- It turns out that Vader is actually Luke's father! Pass it on!)

I dealt with it by having a total breakdown and going into denial about what I'd read.
Tash got spoiled so many times he had to abandon the site for a few months.

PSYCHICRIVER

I've been spoiled, but that was out of choice. I wanted to see what those people who went to the screening much MUCH earlier on this year thought of the film... and I found out one spoiler. But it was pretty vague so I just accepted it.

Not all the spoilers are real. People are putting up fakes as a joke, so you may not have been spoiled.

well, in my opinion faking 'joke' spoilers are just crass.
They still interfer with my watching of the film
(instead of being totally obsorbed into the story I'm worried about and looking for when the spoiler will happen),
but the only way to remain totally spoiler free is to completely avoid any and all websites.
Which is a big price to pay
(I feel very lucky I got to see the BDM on May 6th before I was spoiled at all)

Yup, there's fake spoilers all over the place so if you just saw titles, they may well be false. I know of at least two that are persistent (and untrue).

I'm also really glad I got to see the movie in February, way before anyone else could spoil me (although I think I'd probably manage to avoid them as I avoid the lower pit of hell that is AICN)

FALLENANGEL

I got spoiled too. Here on this board and it just plain broke mt heart! I dunno why I highlighted the spoiler but I did and I TOTALLY COMPLETELY regret it. It really, really, bummed me out. Makes me all weepy-eyed just thinking bout it. Oh, hell. Now, I got to go take my zoloft.

God, I do hope the spoiler I read was fake that someone got from an other website. *gets on knees and prays*

FallenAngel for reading the spoiler.

DEATH TO ALL SPOILERS!

FIREFLYJACK

Over at the official board someone put what I presume is the biggest spoiler of the lot in the title of their post

Now I can take a few spoilers but I really, really wish I hadn't seen that one. It spoils the impact of seeing it on the big screen for the first time and being totally surprised. It is even harder being in the UK because we have at least a month of it being on general release in the US to try and avoid the flood of spoilers that will come with that.

Just to point out the UK release of the movie has been pushed forward to a week behind the US release.

We should also be having a fairly big UK screening of Serenity in August ( www.cantstopthesignal.co.uk) across the UK - the finished version of the film - before elsewhere.

Also, being vague, expect the spoilers on the official forum to start being labelled properly soon. Give it a week or so.

It's true. Joss is known for his "shocks." Yet, after 12 seasons of Buffy/Angel, his shocks tend to be quite predictable. It is usually one of the following:

1. Someone dies, and/or comes back to life.
2. Someone changes love interest from one regular cast member to another regular cast member.
3. Someone changes from good to evil, or evil to good.

My husband jokes that had Firefly been given a few more seasons, we'd see one or two of the 9 cast members dead, Zoe sleeping with Kaylee, Jayne turning good, and Book turning evil.

And on the topic of fake spoilers, wouldn't it be surprising if it turns out that the main "shocker" in the screenings were fake, and something else happens in the regular release? That would be cool. That would be Joss at the top of the game.
