According to http://www.playbill.com/news/article/93004.html
Alan Tudyk will be filling in for Hank Azaria in the musical Spamalot from June until November.

Cool, although the article doesn't mention Firefly or Serenity at all, which is kinda odd. ;)

Yay for Alan!

Although thanks to the title of this thread I've now got "The Camelot Song" running through my head nonstop. Thanks a lot.

When Alan was at the convention he mentioned he'd auditioned for that role (although I think he mistook Hank Azaria for Nathan Lane).

Sounds a perfect to me. Still, it's not like that I'll get to see it as they've made no mention of it coming to the UK. You know, it's not like we invented Monty Python or anything.

It also means, that he definitely won't be able to make the Starfury 'Serenity2' as it says he will work into late November :( . But can't say I ain't happy for the man. Nice job Alan!!

I went to New York for a week in April and mooted this as a possible show to go & see - sadly my friend is not into Monty Python at all so didn't go. But having said that, if I HAD been to see it, would probably now be feeling really annoyed at missing out on Alan!

All the best to him - he should be just great in it!

Now how do we get him to come to our next NYC Meet up?

Heck we had Johnathan Woodard at the North Eastern BBQ last weekend, so we can dream, right?

I am really pleased for Alan but I must admit to being a bit disappointed as well because this means he won't be able to attend Serenity2.

I know, I know. He hasn't even been mentioned yet as a possible guest but you can't blame me for hoping. It is such a nice guy, I would love to meet him again.

Hmmm, have to work on that selfish streak.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Good for Alan! Glad to see him w/ some work. Of course this means that he can't possibly make Dragon Con in Atlanta in September.

Tudyk's going to be great. I saw Spamalot in March and I couldn't stop laughing. But I'm also just slightly disturbed at the thought of him singing "his name is Lancelot" and if anyone else has seen it they'll know why.

Hey, folks:

Wasn't AT also involved in a pilot for NBC/ABC (can't remember which)? Does this mean his new TV show has been summarily relegated to the 'round file'? That would be truly sad.

The TV show had a fairly dubious sounding idea; but, I was gonna tune in religiously, just because Alan was gonna be the lead. Quite apart from being a fellow Texican, I think AT is a unique talent -- kind of a cross between Danny Kaye and Bugs Bunny -- and deserves all the support he can get.

Subsequently,

I think we're missing the important news here! Alan can sing?!?
Now we all new Jewel could sing (and may I add that she sings mightly well) but I'm a little surprised that Alan can. I probably shouldn't be but I am.

Anybody know if he is tenor (my guess), baritone, or bass?

I'll be in NYC in June and I tried to get a ticket,
totally sold out!
Now I have to see if any of my friends in NY know anyone who can let me buy one of the 'house seats'....
I would LOVE to see Alan on stage!

Re whether Alan can see, check 'Wonder Boys'. He's singing to himself both times he's onscreen, can't tell what song but he's in tune, at least :)

And yes, the pilot wasn't picked up by ABC. The Spamalot announcement came hours after ABC decided not to take the pilot.

OMG!!! I already have tickets for this - I bought two tickets for Spamalot for August just a few days ago, before finding this out!

WOO HOO!!!

Somebody up there likes me! <*doing a happy Firefly dance*>

BTW, Broadway.com has tickets available for otherwise sold-out performances through a special hotel/show tickets package (that's where I got mine). Not cheap, but not astronomical, either - a night at the Holiday Inn Midtown w/two Spamalot tickets is $460. The tickets are $121/each, which is only $20 over the regular box office price.

I just heard about this on the Sirius station, Broadway's Best 77. That is AWESOME! I've wanted to see Spamalot for a while, and now I wish I didn't live halfway across the country! Well, I always wish that, but hey...

I have to admit that I didn't even know he could sing. But I'm excited! The DJ on Broadway's Best had no idea who he was, and had to pause before saying his name, but I was for sure incredibly excited. One of our BDHs on Broadway! It's a huge melting of two worlds for me...*toddles off back to her Broadway*

Okay Gonzai-
How the heck were able to tell whether or not Alan was on pitch in "wonder boys"? I rented it today because I just had to know if he could sing and he is barely humming in his scenes. I even had to turn the volume way up just to hear that he was humming. No for me the jury is still out. Those lucky enough to get tickets will have to tell me if Alan is any good.

Trip to the rental place wasn't a total waste either I got "wonder boys", "I Robot" (cause I haven't seen it, even if it is terrible), and "A knights tale" ("it's called a lance!) .

Obsessed? Who me?

OK, so I get to see the "original" Spamalot cast.

I enjoyed I, Robot--it's not a perfect movie, but it was good--particularly AT's role. but, I'm also a fan of Alex Proyas, so I was inclined to like it. I thought some of the dialogue, especially some of AT's scenes, seemed fairly whedon-esque--but that may be due to AT's delivery. the scene where AT comments on "a gift from my father" had a real Mutant Enemy ring to it, IMHO.

Am I allowed to mention that I'm off to see Guys & Dolls in 2 weeks time?!! You know, just to brag

Of course the thing about a DVD is that you know your favourite star will always be in it - hate booking tickets to the theatre to see a particular star, until the curtain goes up I live in fear of the understudy!

The Tony's are this Sunday evening, and Spamalot, since it's a huge new hit, will be doing a musical number. Does anyone know if it'd be AT doing the role?

I have heard that Lawrence Fishbourne will be presenting an award, so maybe we'll see Gina in the audience as well!
