Important people don't do field work.

I'm not in Kentucky, but I'm from Kentucky...Is it me, or do people from the South seem to have a better grasp of how people in Firefly talk?

No, its just me.

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

I'm with Pezman on the language having some appeal for Kentuckians. I came to realize when I wanted to make a conscious effort to spackle my everyday verbalization with a bit of Firefly-speak that I already talked like the characters to an extent.

I'm in western Kentucky, near the lakes. Lived within 30 miles on each side of them my whole life. I have several friends who wear coats of brown, but none of the local communities lend themselves very well to an organized effort of any kind. I'd be open to the opportunity, though.

----------------------------------------------
We ain't all hicks down hyah. (That's hick speak for "here.") My wife is pregnant, but her feet are rarely bare. My house doesn't have any wheels, and I only know one person who doesn't have any teeth - and she's pure, white trash.

Guess the only reason anyone would ever have for calling me a hick is 'cause I loves me some fried chicken and mashed taters. (That's hick speak for "potatoes.")

At this time, I'd like to ask everyone to ignore my reference to the word "hick." I don't want to perpetuate the popular theory that Kentucky = Hick Central. There really aren't that many of them around here.

Wow. This signature turned into a blog, didn't it?

While I'm not FROM Kentucky (Indiana boy) I do live in Kentucky. (Louisville KY actually)As for the appeal of the language to southerners, well I've never really looked at people on KY as true "Southerners" (granted that could be because I'm right across the Ohio from Indiana a "Northern" state)

Wonderful - I knew there had to be some more Browncoats in Ky. Live in Lexington, my own self. But not a native - only been here ten years. I've been spending a lot of time with the Cincinnati based Southern Ohio Browncoats (yahoo group) since I found them and they were willing to take a poor Bluegrass Browncoat into the fold. Seems like we are spread kind of thin across the commonwealth. Anybody else want to chime in?

Haven't actually been out in the black - more like lurk mode engaged. I'd be glad to get to know some more Bluegrass Browncoats and come up with a snazzy motto. We need to plan a Lexington area shindig!

Well I'm no artist by ANY means, but what I kinda had in mind was this: A running horse with Serenity flying overhead (ala the ending shot of the opening credits from the TV show) with "Bluegrass Browncoats" written underneath (in the FF or Serenity fonts) Whatta y'all think?

Hey gang!

I've got a new yahoo group started for my fellow browncoats here in the Bluegrass state (Kentucky) However all Firefly/Serenity fans are welcome to sign up. I hope that once we get set up & (somewhat) organized we can start planning some meetups/shindigs. Here's the link:

Far be it for me to steal anyones thunder, but I went ahead and setup http://www.bluegrassbrowncoats.net . Through colaberation with Spartan I went for it. I figure it's something us 'Villians can call our own. Check it out. Spread the word. In NO WAY is it a replacement for fireflyfans.net.

Very nice! I really like that logo....pretty darn close to what I was thinking about. (I just didn't have the time/talent to do it m'self)

I also like how the site is set up. Lots of potential for growth, features ect ect. However the only thing that I would really suggest changing is A: changing the background color a bit. The basic white makes it looks a tad plain. Nothing fancy needed at all, but perhaps beige/tan? (would fit the whole "browncoats theme")

All in all AWSOME JOB with the site. I just registered there m'self, and look forward to seeing/hearing more.
