Do red and purple clash?

I need the answers of people I can trust here, don't let me down guys.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Firefly I am afraid - unless I go as a companion to another con of course, then it might.

I am wearing a bright red t-shirt and purple skirt. I think it looks fab but everyone I know reckons they clash. As nearly everything I have are purple and red do I need to replace my wardrobe?

Difficult to say without seeing your ensemble really. It's all to do with tones. You can have different enough shades of either colour to make it work, but by the same token you could also have them so evenly matched that they play tricks on the eyes. Which is always tricky. However with fasion I'd say boo sucks to it! and go for it. Whatever upsets the czars of fashion is a great outfit in my book.

I am VERY fair, lots of freckles and reddish hair (see - red and purple with red hair - dodgy)

Really.

Purple and red? That's a tough one. It really all depends on the tones...go for it. The other day i wore a black flower sundress, a fuschia thinly stretched sweater, and a white newsboy hat with a green ribbon tied on it...to work. It was a bit odd, but it actually worked. Most times, if it's a little off, it's terrible, but if it's really off, it's great.

By the way...the clash rules.

Ahoy mate! and yes, ive just entered my cliché pirate phase of the night.

About the clothes again- If you really like red and purple, and cant find clothes that bring the two together, try second hand shops, and buy purple t-shirts, and red t-shirts, then with a craft knife, you can cut a couple of slashes (only about 3 inches) across one of the t-shirts, and cut out a section of the other colour to lay behind the slash. If you live in England, you can get fabric glue from john lewis. When you wear the t-shirt, the other colour will show through the gashes, tying the two colours together. If you’re not confident with cutting up clothes, try using fabric paints the decorate t-shirts with whatever symbolism is appropriate to you. Its really useful if you cant find the clothes to tie tones together, plus its fun and cheaper then buying designer clothes.

I will swear on every fashion magazine ever handed to me that purple and red clash.

There's a line in a Buffy episode (Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered) where, as Cordy's friends are shunning her, she asks, "What did I do now? Wear red and purple together?"

And, though this is cute, little old ladies find empowerment in wearing purple shirts with red hats... for some reason.

But if it works for you.. run with it!

I think I will stick with the red and purple!

I am under 50, but I think, in accordance with the great poem, I will wear purple when I am over 50 - not so sure whether it will be red as well though.

I am quite sure I clash lots - especially as all my shoes/boots/trainers are purple of different shades and they clash terribly with all my clothes but nevermind.

I don't think I'm brave enough to cut up my clothes - but good for you if you are - you must be very stylish PurpleYin

Hasufel, do you still wear red and purple? I can never again wear pink and navy blue (my school colours).
