Why a graphic novel?

Because the story of Serenity and her crew deserves to continue to a conclusion. I'm sure prepared a ton of stories in advance. What did the Alliance do to River? Will she ever be well? "How's a Shepherd know so much about crime?" You get the idea.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I signed up awhile back when Immortal first posted this over at the official site. It would be awesome to have a Firefly comic. Heck, at this point I would take anything Firefly to get my fix.

Has anyone found out anything about the book rights.

I like the fanfic, and if someone could sell a publisher maybe a series of Firefly novels would'nt be a hard sell.

Josh of course would probably maintain creative control, but hey. It would be cool.

I would buy them, ( and maybe try to write a bit too )

Great idea. But who would write it? I sure hope Joss does. He does an amazing job on Fray. Love that book. Not to mention his work on Tales of the Slayers. If you don't own those books, buy them. The next Fray comes out next month. YAY!

I hate to bring this up....but Farscape had a two-parter comic published by Dark Horse as well last year, and not only did it not lead to an on-going series, which i would like for Firefly, but it sold very poorly and the art was substandard (a lot of it was done by copying publicity shots), in my opinion. I'd hope for better for Firefly.

Just a little update our efforts to get Dark Horse to publish a Firefly graphic novel and/or comic.
On 2/4 I started up the Firefly Submission thread at the Dark Horse message board under their Suggestion Box topic.

There have been 95 replies!

If there are any other newsgroups or boards that anyone feels have not been utilized, feel free to post the information.

Since there's been no word from Dark Horse, I've updated the http://www.immantcreative.com/fireflysos/comics.htm page. Now available are:

4 postcard layout MS Word .doc: http://www.immantcreative.com/fireflysos/gotajobpostcard.doc
4 postcard layout Adobe Acrobat .pdf: http://www.immantcreative.com/fireflysos/gotajob_postcard.pdf
should anyone want to take the extra step to show further show Dark Horse their interest and send a postcard.

Dark Horse Comics, Inc.

If you do make sure to mention the popularity of the Firefly Submission thread!

Obviously- with everything going on in the world this seems relatively unimportant. I wouldn't blame anyone if they'd rather use their stamp to send a word of support to a soldier overseas or even a letter to their congressman. The info. is here, if you use it great. If not, that's cool too.

Thanks to everyone.

Yeah this happens a lot in comics.

However, I'd point out that Whedon has an established relationship with Dark Horse. The issues of Angel and Fray that Joss wrote are among the highest sellers of the Buffyverse comics. Jane Espenson, Doug Petrie, Amber Benson and even James Marsters have also written for the Buffy titles. A Firefly series has the potential of drawing in these Mutant Enemy luminaries along with Ben Edlund (a comic book veteran with The Tick), Jose Molina and Brett Matthews (who co-wrote an Angel series already).

Aside from the writing, the Buffy titles are presently drawing in top name talent in the art department so much so that the writing AND the art are now on the same level. I don't see how a Firefly comic would be any different.

I believe a Firefly comic would be more than a mere experiment to test the market (unlike the Farscape two-shot story by the sound of it). The Firefly project would be in good hands from day one and masterminded by Joss the same way the Buffy/Angel/Fray comic books are.

My only complaint with the Buffyverse titles is about their choice to use photographs for the covers... this may sell issues to TV fans who don't normally buy comics, but being a lifelong comics fans I must testify that photo covers put me off a bit. I prefer the illustrated covers, personally.
