I was curious how the opening monologue used on FOX might work as narration for the trailer, so I threw this together:

Not the greatest work, but I enjoy it nonetheless, so I thought I'd share it.

America loves a winner!

Shiny! While I've heard OF the alternate intros before, that's the 1st time I got to check one out. Save for a repeat scene here and there, good job!

Thanks for that, Gordon! I'd never heard Mal's intro, only Book's.

Wow. That's not the sort of thing I usually let slip through (threw?). Thanks for pointing it out. It's been fixed.

The Man They Call Soul...

I just had to comment after I watched that. That was very well put together. I especially enjoyed how you put the theme song in there at the end. Very shiny!

Wow, Gordon -- that was if not THE best, certainly one of the best fan vids I've seen! Nice job!

Wow, gordon! That is really nicely done! I think it works better as a trailer for the uninitiated (damn, where's my dictionary...) than the official one. Keep up the good work.

That was great.

It feels much more Firefly-esque than the current trailer.

And I'm glad I got to hear the intro-I've never heard any of them either.

That's absolutely wonderful! Thanks for sharing. I'll be forwarding the link to some folks I know to help advertise the movie.

That was incredible! Universal really needs to see and use it, IMHO. I really think your trailer fits FEEL of the movie (having seen it) much better than the 'Versal trailer (and if that reassures all you Browncoats out there about the BDM, great!).

See this is what I’m talking about when I say a trailer is no indication of a film, whatsoever. That trailer, taken alone, would be enough to make me watch the film. The other one would be enough to put it on my “I’ll go if someone else pays” list.

Heaving seen Firefly, and fallen in love with it, the other one was enough to give me an uneasy feeling, and this one make me look forward to the movie.

So, in conclusion

That is reassuring. I was assuming that was the case anyway, but it’s good to know for sure.

Loved this--I showed it to my 14 year old son who only came to the series from the DVD without ever hearing the intro narration--he had already seen the original trailer(at Hitchhikers Guide) but he said he liked this better--it gave a better idea of the movie--he did notice you cut the Reaver out--those are his favorite characters--next to Jayne!

I don't suppose you could make a version of this with Ron Glass' intro? 'cuz that would be ruttin' awesome too!

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

Wow.

I like that so much better than the real trailer. I think it successfully "serves two masters,"as Joss says, both explaining the story to a new audience and making us Browncoats cheer.

Great job.

Shiny -

I'll second that request for a Book re-work! My wife and I were just watching that trailer, and she commented that she likes Book's version better (so do I!).

On the other hand, I imagine that'd be a fair bit of work...but it'd be shiny!

I don't have access to Ron Glass' intro (I got Mal's off an old VHS tape, but I didn't start taping Firefly until after the switch), but if anyone can point me in the direction of a copy, I'd give it a try.

Here you go:

(the .wav seems to play in Quicktime player but sounds all slowed down in Window Media Player for some reason...)

Also, you could see if the TV recordings forthe train job (or any other ep ron's intro was in) may have a clearer audio from this site:

That was ruttin' awesome! Much better feel for the 'verse and gives newbies some idea of who all these relative unknowns are.

This is the trailer that should have been released.
