For any NZ firefly appreciators out there - any idea about when we get to see Serenity? We're usually quite a bit behind, I think. Moviewise.

I'd like to know too. Just watched the trailer and really looking forward to the movie.

My wife and I have only just watched this series on DVD in the last month, now watching it again, and extremely disappointed that such a gem was axed before it was really given a chance.

Here's hoping the movie will breathe new life into stories being told in the Firefly universe.

I wish I could be more exact. I did see a list of countries and release dates recently. Unfortunately, I don't remember where it was or I'd go back and check it for you. I'm pretty sure it said the release date for Australia was sometime in November. I don't remember New Zealand being listed (although I could be wrong about that), but I'd assume (never assume...) that New Zealand would get it at the same time as Australia.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. I just don't remember exactly what was on the list.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

IMDB has the Australian release date as September 29 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379786/releaseinfo
Yup, according to IMDB, Oz gets it first. Keep yer fingers crossed.

Hey, thanks for your replies people.

Just heard from a guy on the serenity oz website that the NZ release date could be as late as November 10 - a whole month and a bit after everybody else. Can anyone confirm or deny this information? Preferably deny, deny, deny?

If it is indeed correct, does anyone know anybody high up in the NZ movie/theatre business (she inadvertently lets slip how very little she knows about such things) who they can lean on to bring the date forward?

Although I've only seen a couple of posts by self-confessed kiwi fans on this site, I'm sure there are more of us out there.

Don't mean to make a fuss, just ... disappointing as hell.

Can't lean, but I'd be willing to bet that if Peter Jackson mentioned it, it just might happen. After all, it would be in his best interest for the BDM's weekend numbers to be winding down when his movie opens. And it would, of course, be very much in Universal's, Joss's, our BDH's & our best interests for the BDM to be released in NZ as early as possible before the next Peter Jackson film.

Great news to all you multitudes of kiwi fans out there (despite your inexplicable silence, I'm sure you exist). Just found the embassy website is listing the serenity release date as October 6 - ONE WHOLE MONTH before the previous guesstimate.

YAY.

Just to muddy things a little more, the following site:
http://www.readingcinemas.co.nz/t_comingsoon.asp
lists October 6 as the release date so here's hoping that the November 10 one has been blown out of the water and we get Serenity only a week late as opposed to over a month late.

I recieved an e-mail from Reading Cinemas last week saying that they are having a preview at Courtenay Central in Wellington on the 19th of September but the movie will open in full release on the 10th of November.
Dunno if there would be any tickets for the preview left now, I got mine at about 10:45am on the morning they went on sale and the guy at the desk said they were officially sold out and then gave me the five tickets I was after. Wierd but true.
I can say I am majorly looking forward to seeing it a week and a half before it's world wide release and hope lots for fans got tickets.

Wondering if anyone can shed some light on the fact that despite the serenity NZ release date being announced as early october, reading and skycity cinemas cite it as Nov 10? Does that mean all the other cinemas will follow suit? Having missed advanced screening tickets, will I have to wait a whole month longer than I'd anticipated?

As posted above, the release date initially was November 10 but the Readings site had October. It looks like Readings has simply come in to line with the the rest of the country.

Makes it worthwhile being a member of Reading's mailing list as it is the only way I found out about the advance preview (only one week to go )
