The one movie that came out last year that infuriated me with it's success was MEAN GIRLS. It's essentially a watered down, studiofied version of HEATHERS, and to think that not only was it a hit, but it was actually taken seriously as a good movie is appalling. And irony of ironies, the flick was directed by Mark Waters, brother of Daniel. How's that for an obvious sign that it's a rip-off. And to think that that flick soared while THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, an infinitly better flick, crashed on impact.

Does anyone know about the curse of Heathers?

Here are the facts

1 Kim Walker who played Heather Chandler(the lead Heather) died of a brain tumor in 2000. Very ironic that early in the film she asks another Heather if she had a brain tumor for breakfast.

2. Jeremy Appelgate played Peter Dawson, committed suicide in 2000. In the film, at Heather Chandler's funeral he prays that he doesn't want suicide to happen to him, because he couldn't handle it.

I can't imagine that Heathers could be filmed today, given the oversensitization that's overtaken our society and Hollywood since it was made. One of the very few movie quotes that I incorporated into my own vocabulary came from Heathers... I use it every time it fits some event in my life:

"Color me impressed!"

Thanks for starting the thread. Now that I think about it, it's time to break Heathers out if its box for a viewing this week.

Holy crap! Is that true? How strange and tragic. I hear stories about former celebs having died that turn out to be bogus, but man... sad to hear these.

Maybe it's because of the fact that I was way too young to remember any of it (my b-day is Sept. 2nd, 1985), but I don't think the 80's were anything to write home about. Gaudy trends, horrible music, tv shows and movies that definitly have not aged well, as well as the whole "Greed is good", excess corporate mentality that made up the whole decade. I mean, when you elect a freaking actor, and a bad one for that matter, to be your president, you know your screwed.

Regan, Thatcher, Mulroney, Jackson. These are names that will not be remembered fondly for generations to come. I just think that with the exception of a handful of things produced in that decade, the whole ten years was just a hangover from the 60's and 70's.

The 80's were a bust. Now the 90's, that's when things started cooking.

As for Hughs, FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF is the only one of his flicks that I ever really liked.
