I am sure it has been discussed but after finishing the dvd's last night and with the upcomming release of the movie, is there any chance of the show being picked up again and getting new episodes by someone when the movie does good?

This would be the greastest thing since sliced bread if it ever happened.

It would be the best thing since sliced bread if the show came back.

Unfortunately, it's not very likely.

Universal has everyone signed on for a three-pic deal if the first movie does well enough, so we'll get two more movies before any possible triumphant return to TV.

There have been rumours that Fox put some clause in the deal that the show couldn't come back to TV for ten years, but we're not sure if that's just a wild rumour or if it's based in fact. I think if it came back before then, it would have to be on Fox and I (and probably many others) do NOT want Fox to be able to mistreat it again.

From what I understand, PhysChick is correct. Might I add, though, that I think (emphasis on THINK, so don't tear me a new one if I'm wrong) that the SciFi channel is thinking of airing reruns.

It's almost a certainty that Firefly will be back in episodic production in some form. The storytelling style demands it. All kinds of questions about how, and in what form, but I'm confident it will happen.

Oh yes, I forgot about the reruns on SciFi! They are definitely airing them, there is a news item on the main page with dates & times.

(I'm from Canada and we've had reruns on Space for quite awhile, and even got the unaired eps broadcast before anyone in the States, so I forgot about what a big deal it is to have reruns on SciFi.)

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

The FOX Broadcasting Company (FOX Network) has no rights to Firefly. All those lapsed in 2003 when it chose not to continue the series.

20th Century Fox (studio home of Mutant Enemy) still has the rights to Firefly, & recently sold limited rebroadcast rights to Sci-Fi Channel.

I've never seen any mention of it but I suspect that Universal's deal probably prevents 20th Century Fox from making any more Firefly eps, for @least a decade.

I know they're not actual tv episodes, but the comics are coming out soon, too. They're supposed to bridge the 6 month time gap between Objects in Space and Serenity.
