I'm sure it's probably been asked before, but over at the official Serenity site, about a month or so they had a challenge to create a Firefly spinoff.

So, although to my knowledge nothing in this vein is in the works, say, hypothetically, Joss decided he'd do another TV show set in the Firefly 'verse... it wouldn't be set in on Serenity, and at most one of the cast members from the show could be on it (although others might guest down the line).

Would you want to watch it? What type of show would you want it to be? If you did the challenge and want to tell others your idea, you can go ahead and do that too... I put my whole entry, involving Saffron, up on: http://www.livejournal.com/users/newnumber6/172620.html

As for me, I love the show and the characters especially, but I also really love the 'verse, so if Joss was involved, I'd love to watch another show set there.

Tangentially: would a spin-off be any easier legal-wise for Joss to get on the air?

I'd rather have a series of films rather than a series about a brand new crew.

Firefly / Serenity will be, for me, always be about the characters we already have. Fans have invested so much in them that, in my opinion, it would be wrong to just drop them for 'the new'.

Oh, I'd agree, if it was a choice between the two, I'd rather have a few movies of Serenity than 5 seasons of something else... but if it wasn't a choice, if Joss could do both or if something happened that made more movies out of the question.

"Would you want to watch it?"

Of course. If Joss has proven anything with Buffy, Angel and Firefly it's that he can create characters and make you care about them. When I first saw the pilot I wasn't completely convinced, but by the end of Objects In Space I was gutted there was nothing left to watch.

I'd certainly watch a show set in Firefly 'Verse (or is it now the Serenity 'Verse?) but if it's an either/or question than there's no way I'd trade Serenity/Firefly for anything. But a spinoff that let us see something like more of the cultures of the planets and moons--sure I'd watch that.

But if Joss Whedon created it, I'd watch a show about talking office supplies, or a show about shimp invading the no-shrimp dimension and thus a Shrimp Slayer is born.
