Looks like the official Firefly message board is under siege by DA fans. It's not a pretty sight. Who moderates the official board?

i don't think anyone moderates the FOX boards. i don't really like the set up of their boards, so I hardly ever visited the Dark Angel board, but i do remember just after the cancellation, a fair few posts were known to dissappear, those posts being the ones slandering Fox, and encouragements to boycott FOx. I just think one of their employees goes through the board every know and again and filters out the real crap.

I's sad that the DA people can't find something better to put their energy into. Boycotting Firefly and hassling fans is not going to bring DA back.

Haha! The only post I made on that board was warning of the DA fans! That's so very funny... in a tragic way.

I hope this doesn't effect Firefly's future.

I think this much heat, this early, will burn out before the season starts. Or, anyway, that's my hope.

You are NOT helping. Acting like an idiot isn't going to bring DA back, my friend.

Firefly people: I'm sorry my fellow fans are treating you like crap. Hell, they make me ashamed to have admitted that they're my fellow fans. Just know that some of us still have retained some measure of sanity and realize that you had nothing to do with DA's cancellation and that you therefore shouldn't be getting the heat for it.

Why thanx DarkAngelForever, you sure make the rest of the Dark Angel fans look good.

It's pretty disgusting how some of the people are acting but like I said before, most of the people at Cher's are mature enough not to come on here and post. Most of the trolls are from http://www.darkangeltv.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi so instead of coming to Cher's to attack them, go there instead since it's really encouraged there.

I wouldn't go anywhere to attack anyone. No reason to lower ourselves to their level. However, Cher herself was the one who started this mess on this board - so sadly I think they are coming from both boards... sigh...

Eventually it will go away though.

Fromthebeyond and Ender: Thank you for your civility! Hey, why don't you guys stick around on the boards and check out Firefly with us!

Jonwes: The attacks will die down eventually... and I know I'm the biggest offender of this, but we have to just let the trolls be.

I doubt this will die out, DA fans won't back off until Firefly's gone. So probably around the end of this year the heat will die down.

I've read some posts on these DA MGBs. Though many are realists, smart and civil, some are beyond (gonna be nice here) naive -- holding out some ridiculous hope that DA will return. Any hoax, or joke announcment, or posted rumor that DA is renewed sends everyone ... well, it's just sad. Or it would be if it weren't so damned funny. One poster wondered if FOX could be sued for false advertising (?!).

Strange, I don't see anybody posting on *their* site saying DA sucks. I would never bother to post there, even to say something kind. It would be a waste of time.

*whine* DA SUX U GUYS R DA REAL LUSRS!!! */whine*

hmmm... yeah I'm too mature for that...

Shoe: funny. You are indeed the voice of reason. Actually, methinks the trolling will stop when DA is rene -- Hahahaha ... Oh, man...

why does every post on this board turn into a DA vs. Firefly debate?? i know this thread is about DA fans attacking the official Firefly boards, but the last 5 or so threads i just read have turned into the said debate. someone posts a rationally thought, someone posts back something constructive about first thought, then a troll posts something just to be a pain, and voila, DA vs. Firefly debate.

i didn't think we were meant to be feeding the trolls? maybe this board does need moderators, just do we can have some fresh uninterrupted discusion. i want to discuss firefly, and everything else joss related, not why or how Firefly replaced DA, and how much it sucks.

whine...This sucks... (well it does)

I posted there to give the DA fans some advice, since as a B5 fan I know what it's like to get screwed over by networks. Being negative never works--that's basically what I told them. They should find a better way to get the show back.

Ultimately, what does it really matter what anyone says?

I've been watching shows in the fantasy and sci-fi genre for most of my life, and if there's one thing I've found it's that shows in these genres are cancelled all the time. While it's necessary to acknowledge that sometimes a little fan response can go a long way (look at the infamous Tabasco campaign of Roswell), at the same time, being abrasive and obnoxious to fans of a new show is about as non-productive as you can get. When you like a genre as expensive and as specialized as sf/f, you have to just deal with the fact that sometimes shows you really like aren't going to do well.

I guess my point is that we'd probably do best to focus on our positive, ignoring trolling and mourning-for-DA-gone-malicious.

Of course, I could be wrong.

I have to appologize for other DA fans, I'm a Buffy/Angel fan AND a Dark Angel fan and I remember someone saying "you can't like both", which was so stupid. I'm not giving up Angel or Buffy.

Yeah, I'll miss DA , but the Firefly attacks are getting stupid. I'm just moving on to "Birds of Prey" and getting over it. It's gone, we can't change it. I'm over it

It's sad I can't see me to watching Firefly, since I use to watch Jewel Staite in Higher Ground and another show. And Gina Torres was the only reason I watch that stupid "Cleopatra 2525". She was also cool in the Hercules/Xena series.

Unfortunately even if a campaign "saves" a show the results tend to be "unfortunate."

Also, let's not forget Roswell and Sliders, both of which ultimately died horrible deaths unworthy of the shows they were when they began.

Bleh.

At this rate, if the show even remotely suck, the trolls are going to have a field day on that message board.

I always thought the X-Files was just plain dumb. Maybe if I'd seen it back when I still believed in some of that stuff...

It's true, Season 3 of TOS was awful. Lots of people involved with the series know in advance that it'd be awful, because of the people who'd been put in charge. Gene Roddenberry (who, contrary to mythology was more interested in being a media mogul than a social visionary) had moved on to Higher Things. And Gene L. Coon, who was responsible for a lot of the Star Trek concept and was still basically in charge, was having health problems. I heard David Gerrold describe the third-season producer as a guy who was never in charge for more than a season -- his shows always got canceled.

Still, without the third season, there wouldn't be enough eps for syndicated reruns. So no trekkies watching the same eps over and over, no grass roots pressure for a second series, no movies, no NG... wait a minute, that probably would have been a good thing. Never mind!

For the X-files the following unlikely beliefs must be embraced.

1. That the Government would cover up a reason the quadruple or more the defense budget.

2. That the Government which makes a KGB agent number three man at the FBI could keep a hugh secret for fifty years.

3. That congresscretins would cooperate in keeping secrets and not selling the info or using it to their own advantage for fifty years.

Oh, come on now. Much good has come out of ST - The Franchise. Out of The Print Media (ST-TPM)there was one good book, "The Final Reflection."

After getting scr*w*d by The Mountain of Garbage John M. Ford stopped writing.

ST-TNG was not in line with my expectations, but I wasn't the guy TMofG bet millions of $US on either. Some of ST-DS9 was adequate. ST-V'ger well any show that has the line "Take this cheese to sickbay!" ... Well, Never Mind!

Oh dear, Jeff and I see eye-to-eye on a major social issue. That's scary!

Here's my take on the rise and fall of the Post-Kirk Star Trek franchise. TNG started out with a lot of warm-and-fuzzy Trekkie futurism, not very well thought out. But Star Trek still had a certain sentimental value among the "Hard" SF crowd, which is where they bought the scripts for the occasional episode that was actually thought provoking.

Then Roddenbery got sick and gradually handed the franchise over Rick Berman. Even after Roddenberry's death, you still saw a fair number of good stories. But Berman seems to have little interest in serious SF, and no respect for his writers or actors, to say nothing of his audience. The better writers have moved on, disssatisfied with getting too little for their scripts, or even being completely ripped off. Stories of Berman's high-handed treatment of his actors abound, and Enterprise still has its shooting interrupted now and then, as disgruntled actors simply bail on them.

So by the time Voyager was well underway, all the "creative" decision making came from hacks with few story-telling skills and no scientific knowledge at all. I have to confess that it's the scientific thing that finally alienated me for good, more so than the bad writing and acting. When Enterprise trotted out, for the umpteemth time, the notion that not all aliens would have easy access to water, or even know what it is (hello! hydrogen! oxygen! two of the most common elements in the Universer!) I stopped watching in mid episode and never looked back. I even read all the spoilers for Nemesis so I wouldn't be tempted to go see it.

Forgot to add the following, and I can't seem to edit the post:

Some relevent links:

http://www.kithrup.com/dkm/dkmnonfic/index.html#STINJ

Oops. I was going to provide a link to an anti-Berman rant on Wil Wheaton's web site. Basically how Wheaton had been punished for wanting to do other work while he was on TNG, culminating in Wheaton deciding he didn't want to do star trek any more. Can't find it now -- which may have something to do Wheaton getting a cameo on Nemesis and Wheaton and Berman being officially "cool with each other".
