I checked out IMDB's General Forum to see if anyone was talking about Serenity and I did not find one discussion or even mention of Serenity on that board....and these are people who live and breath movies. If we really want to promote Serenity then this is the place to do it on. All that you need to do is simply begin discussion that lead into Serenity or mention Serenity in coversation about movies. People will begin to take notice. I know they are very elitist over there and at first might shove us away but if we went there in force then they wouldn't be able to ignore us. So in other words, I am suggesting a full blown take over of the IMDB's General Forum. First we will have to be discreet and just make mentions of Serenity and then we can begin (especially for those of us that have seen the movie) begin talking about howe great (which it is) Serenity is.

If anyone has a better idea then put here but I think this something we can do. :D

There have been a few posts recently about spoilers turning up at IMDB, basically warning Browncoats to stay away from the site - could explain the lack of activity!

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

That might explain it.

I think creating a buzz over at IMDB is a great way to get people intereseted who have not already heard about the BDM. I do agree though that it is best to not approach this as rabid fans, but rather as movie or sci fi enthusiasts who have heard of the movie.

I suppose that if fans who have seen the preview screenings wanted to discuss the merits of the unreleased movie on IMDB, it would be their right to do so. But I can't see where spoiling the plot would help draw fans to a movie that's still c. 90 days away from hitting the theatres. And even gentle hints (i.e., how great the TV series was, etc.) would tend to draw spoilers in the review discussion from those who have seen it.

Hell, you can't even get on this board without risking some dumbass who's seen the preview leaking the story. It's like skating on thin ice here at FFFn, and we're a fan site with supposedly no evil types looking to intentionally piss in the communal watering hole. The rest of the Internet is intentionally and unapologetically ruder.

Wanna see an unintentional spoiler right here on FFFn? Just try suggesting that Book was an Alliance general officer, or judge, or vigilante sheepherder; somebody who's already seen the movie will respond, "Well, I've seen the movie, and I can tell you for certain he's not a former bounty hunter (et al)". That flattens the imaginative landscape a bit, doesn't it? No harm intended, I'm sure; but I guess it's just human nature that they can't stand idly by, while you delude yourself with your fantasies.

They try real hard not to be smug about it; but they know something you don't, and they feel compelled to straighten you out.

In conclusion, you're thinking about the well-being of the movie, and that's a good thing; but, I don't think this particular scheme is gonna work out for anybody who's still anticipating the movie's release, whether fan or not-yet-fan...

Sadly,

zoid

P.S.
I've even tried the old Christmas trick (as when kids have 'accidentally' found the hidden cache of unwrapped presents) by suggesting that the preview screenings might be of an alternative ending that will not make it to the theatres, id est, that the released movie might have different ending(s) to some of the smaller plotlines. Just trying to keep some speculation and 'what-if' threads alive. But the new class of Know-All fans squelched that attempt ("No, zoid, those are the kids' presents!"), so we're back at the collapsed-probability state with the movie. Ah, well. Frankly, I'm more than a little disappointed that Joss Whedon -- a well-known and compulsive spoilerphobe himself -- would allow his first feature film to be spoiled thus by its own fans. It's a real mystery to me, and I can't imagine the repercussions are making him happy...
