I'm alive. Thankfully so are all my friends and collegues at work, some of whom were in London at the time.

I'm based in Lancashire - way north of Watford Gap, not near London at all but my prayers go out to all affected by the blasts in the City, my own friends are all fine.

Keep flying

Zoid said:
"Exactly how stupid -- beyond simply brainwashed and insular -- does one have to be in order to think that such acts of terrorism against civilian targets are bringing the world to a proper relationship with Allah?.... I'm probably missing the terrorists'/freedom fighters'/jihadin's delicate philosophical point entirely, but that's what it boils down to for a common man like me."

Mr. Zoid, I agree with you that these acts do nothing to bring us all together, but one MUST ask "Who benefits?" from such an attack. The Brits had just declared they planned to remove all troops from Iraq in the foreseeable future. Knowing this, why would any "terrorist" of Iraq choose to antagonize a country which had just declared it wanted no more part of that war? One must be very sure of where the blame lies before any fingers can be pointed.

I don't believe any common terrorist group was behind it because they don't gain anything. However, it is well established that Israelis (NOT Scotland Yard) warned Netanyahu BEFORE the attack, but warned no other group. (Even Matt Drudge had this info.) Do the Israelis benefit from raising British (and resulting world-wide) antagonism against Iraq or other mid-East countries? You bet they do.

Coincident here is drawing attention away from Plamegate/Rove and from the unpopular ID-card discussions in Britain. Again, let's look with curious minds at who benefits rather than blindly accept what we're told.

Any who wish to exercise analytical thought (over knee-jerk reaction to phony news services), and who seek enlightenment on this event might visit [ www.whatreallyhappened.com] and start reading.

Thank you all for your time.

Just found this excellent commentary, which might offend some, but touches on enough good points and has enough insight that I recommend it to anyone who is disgusted with these ongoing violent events.

It's called "When the Cops are Crooks," and is by John Kaminsky:

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and good wishes. I don't live in London, but I have friends who do, and I was meant to be there myself this evening. Everyone I know is well, thankfully.

All I can say is: Huzzah for London's emergency services and transport staff, who did a sterling job yesterday, dealing speedily and effectively with what could otherwise have been a much worse disaster. And watch London bounce right back

All present and correct in Kent.
I live about 70 miles from London but have a brother there.Luckily he was south of the river when it all kicked off.
I'm happy to say that London seems to be taking today as business as usual. I have heard the phrase "we've just got to get on with it" a lot. The "it" meaning life in general.
London terrified. Not.

Strange, I thought this was a Browncoats board for British Browncoats to let everyone else know they were OK.

Oh, and by the way Ruxton, I happen to be Jewish and take VERY great exception to your comments.

***I just want to make this Perfectly Clear***

I`m not much of a religous person but, I think it is totally wrong to blame religion for these peoples acts.

Muslims in this country (UK) have condemmed the attack, it was not religion who did this but was (reported to be) terrorists who stated their reason was for the `Glory of Alla` - this doesn`t mean all Muslims are terrorists, but that they have been singled out by a small group of undesirables who have claimed this act the way they have.

I think the time has come to take any talk of Who was responsible & talk of religion & other world news to the relevant forums.

As has been mentioned, this thread was due to some people who were concerned about missing loved ones & friends & for the welfare of others.

Thankyou!

Darin (Zol.)

I'm not Jewish and I also take offensive at the comments. "Well established" my arse. The only respectable source that talks about a warning being given before the attacks is this piece by the Associated Press:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050707/ap_on_re_mi_ea/israel_britain_expl
osions_1

However, that report a) states that it was Scotland Yard who warned Netanyahu and b) this is based on an official who wished to remain anonymous.

I think we may be missing the point here. Regardless of religion or ideology the point of terrorism is to spread terror. Judging by the turn out in my office, and on the tubes and trains in London as I travelled in to the city today, I think the perpetrators of the violence in London have already lost. Despite the fact that most of my team travel past the sites of yesterdays attacks, they were all in work today.

I wore my "Fighting Elves" t-shirt to work, and my 2 chinese speaking staff were highly amused - they seemed to think it summed up the attitude here (and the rest were just jealous).

HilaryJaneUK,

Perhaps I should clarify. By "Israelis" I meant the IDF. "By way of deception, thou shalt do war." [Motto of the Mossad.] However, the news gives the info as "Israeli Embassy," not as the Mossad or IDF. However, embassies being what they are, the Mossad is implicated.

Also, you ought to take offense at what is public news, not at the messenger.

Simon, FYI, the link you mentioned is the same one Drudge had yester, to which I referred. If you think www.whatreallyhappened.com is not respectable (being largely a collection of links to verifiable news sites worldwide), you have not done your homework, my boy.

Also, there's this, verifying what I said:
"Several hours later, Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom officially denied reports that Scotland Yard passed any information to Israel regarding the bombings, and British police denied they had any advanced warning of the attacks. The British authorities similarly denied that any information exchange had occurred."

The info that the Yard had contacted Netanyahu came from an anonymous source in the Israeli Foreign Ministry, NOT FROM SCOTLAND YARD! If this offends any/all, that's your problem because I didn't make it up.

Nor did I initiate the diversity of this thread. My response was to Zoid, not to anyone else here except to alert everyone to not place blame without gathering information, as was done in another thread devoted to this disaster. Get your facts straight, HilaryJane and Simon, before you blow off at the lip. For that matter, what's wrong with inspiring discussion from Brits who may be able to shed light here?

Bottom line, as I said yesterday: The day before the London attacks major news sources announced the imminent withdrawal of Brit troops from Iraq. But the attacks have resulted in Tony Blair insisting that British troops now remian in Iraq. So, who got what they wanted from the bombings? Who WANTS troops to remain in Iraq? THAT is who did the bombings.

First, I'm very familiar with whatreallyhappened.com and how inaccurate, biased and generally insane it is. Second, the link you posted has the incredibly unreliable source of "unconfirmed rumors in intelligence circles" for the idea that Israel warned the UK of the attacks a few days beforehand. Third, the hypothesis you're suggesting (Israel knew about the attacks, would benefit from them, therefore wanted them to go ahead) bears no relation to even the evidence you're suggesting. If (and I'm dubious to the extreme) Israel were to want the bombings to go ahead, why would they warn the UK? Indeed the article suggests that Israel may embarrass Blair by publicly acknowledging the early warning.

>> The day before the London attacks major news sources announced the imminent withdrawal of Brit troops from Iraq.

Please link to these "major news sources" then. There has been a document released discussing how we could remove troops (if by "imminent" you mean over the next year or so) but government documents discuss hypotheticals all the time, particularly when they relate to things that will eventually happen. Blair has made it clear we're in Iraq until the new government has trained up enough soldiers/policemen to replace us and the Americans. To go back on that would be political suicide.

>> So, who got what they wanted from the bombings? Who WANTS troops to remain in Iraq? THAT is who did the bombings.

Well, let me see. Lt Johnson's wife is having an affair and wants her husband to stay out there so she's got a motive. George W wants his number 1 ally to stay out there too. Jim Davidson wants to entertain the troops somewhere local to his new home in Bahrain. There's three suspects to be rounded up immediately. (Actually, I wouldn't object to the last two being detained indefinitely.)

If you want to accuse a nation or a religious group or indeed anyone of bombing London and framing Islamic terrorists for it, go ahead and do so. I'd respect you more if you didn't pussyfoot around and make vague innuendos. If you think that Ariel Sharon would authorise such a move, that one of our allies in the Middle East would attack our citizens and then warn us about their own imminent attack, well, everyone's entitled to an opinion.

...Frankly, I'm dreadfully sorry and downright embarassed I brought up the 'real world discussion' side of this topic. If I could take it back I would; but some djinnis apparently can't be stuffed back into their bottles, simply by ignoring them and hoping they'll die of inattention.

To those who have suffered in this latest round of terrorist attacks (regardless who perpetrated them), I offer my humble apologies and beg your forgiveness. Hopefully, the other 'commentators' that I have incited will follow my lead and zip their lips on speculative input. It's a faint hope, but this thread is indeed only about the whereabouts of London Browncoat Regulars.

Does anyone have a complete(ish) head count on our brothers and sisters yet? I am truly concerned for the citizens of London in general, and our fellow 'flans' in particular...

Sheepishly,

zoid

Zoid, very well spoken. Thank you.

Simon, if you were "very familiar" with www.whatreallyhappened.com you would never call it the names you did. Therefore, you are either a liar, or too inexperienced for your opinion to hold water.

As ACROWLEY noted, your blathering does nothing for this thread, nor for my note to Zoid. My apologies to all who were offened here. Best wishes to all, and to all a good night.

(Special friends in Sussex, be well.)

BECSTHEBEAST

Thanks for getting in contact Zol

it has been a very surreal time as i have been at a large conference just off Russell Square (near the bus bomb) since Thursday morning. I have yet to find out that someone i know was involved in this dispicable act and i hope that i don't.

missing posters are going up around the area as there are still bodies in the pipes. There will be a vigil called by the Stop the War Coalition at 2pm on Sunday near Russel Square

I don't want to say too much here as i think you are right to keep this open for people to get in touch

But two things:

Absolutely - call these people criminals, call them terrorists but don't call them muslims - did we refer the IRA or pro-life people as Christian Terrorists?

I read the Observer on Sunday and was disgusted by the use of three pictures of muslims which will add to the racist backlash. My friend who wears a hijab was thrown off a bus by her fellow passengers as they refused to travel with her.

I have friends who work on the tube and after Madrid no-one was shocked that this happened. Until we stop killing innocent people in Afghanistan and Iraq we will be under threat - their loss is as tragic as those who lost people on Thursday. We will have to wait until the investigations come through - but the fact that no front line staff were told what was happening until over an hour after the first explosion is horrific - management could have saved lives but the desire to keep the tube running was more important.

I hope everyone is okay
