Most, if not all, of us have purchased and gotten full value and then some from the DVD set. Am I the only one still holding onto my VHS copies taped from broadcast?

I consider my set to be particularly hard-won. It's complete, save for the three unaired episodes, and in correct order. This was accomplished with great difficulty owing not only to the on again/off again schedule due to the MLB post-season, but also due to local Friday night Red Sox games (these episodes aired following the hour long local news, which began whenever the games ended). In one instance, we were out of town for the weekend, and I had to pass these instructions onto a very generous friend who stayed up late, noted the time that game coverage ended, and programmed his VCR according to my instructions, being sure to keep the tape qued up to the one hour plus one minute window that I had left in the tape between episodes shown out of order. That's friendship!

The tapes include the very well done episode intros (Why were these left out of the DVD release? Presumably they will be included in the Sci-Fi airings), and even a 3 minute, 15 second story that our Fox affiliate ran on the series on the 5:30 news on the day of the series premier (includes on-set interview footage with Fillion, Baccarin, Torres, and Tudyk that I have not seen anywhere else). I'm tempted to complete the collection when the series airs on Sci-Fi. Am I nuts?

You know, I really don't remember the intros. I only remember maybe Fox's warnings, but not that...another reason to watch Sci-Fi.

*lol* And if I watched them, I mustve forgotten.

I say keep them. Keep them, copy them, and post/share them to the world who hasn't seen them...like me

I still have "Ariel", "Objects in Space", and "Serenity" on VHS sitting on my shelf. Haven't watched them in a long time, but I guess I may as well hold onto them. FF reruns have aired on Canada's Space Channel since the Fall of 2003 and those include the intros and full screen (yuck), so I guess there's not much point in me holding onto them for that reason. I dunno, I guess I just like knowing that I have the original FOX broadcasts in my possesion.

This MUST already be posted somewhere. If not, for those who missed/forgot:

Screen reads: 2517 A.D.

(voice of Book)
"After the Earth was used up, we found a new solar system, and hundreds of new Earths were terraformed and colonized. The central planets formed The Alliance, and decided all the planets had to join under their rule. There was some disagreement on that point. After the war, many of the independents who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of the system, far from Alliance control. Out here people struggled to bet by with the most basic technologies. A ship would bring you work. A gun would help you keep it. A captain's goal was simple; find a crew, find a job, keep flying."

Most, but not all, footage that accompanies the voice-over is from Serenity. Some episodes began with a broadly similar Mal voice-over.

Transcribing the Fox25 news piece would be a bigger project than I care to get into. Does anyone else remember seeing this?

I still watch my complete set - I don't have a dvd player in my bedroom. It's also a bit of time travel, with the annoying political commercials and promos for John Doe. I resented JD after FF was cancelled but not to fear, F*X took care of him.

I will watch SciFi airings, if only to see what bits they cut. You know they'll butcher it so they can shove another couple of commercials in.

We never saw (in Iowa) a special before the series aired. That would have been great.

Joss basically didn't care for the intros and that's why they were left off the DVD set.

I still have my VHS copies and they aren't going anywhere.

You mean to tell me there are DVDs out?!?

I've been wondering whether to keep my tapes or not. Also for other shows that I've since acquired the DVDs for. Tough decision...

BTW, I personally liked the intros.

I do still have the original Fox broadcast versions, but not on VHS, as I'm in the UK. I have the SVCDs, and for the unaired ep.s I have the UK Sci-Fi version on SVCD. I have misplaced my original SVCD of War Stories though (I think I know who has it but he swears he doesn't). And even though I have the DVD, it does irk me that my SVCD collection is incomplete!

I think I heard or read somewhere that the network made Joss put the intros in because everything was so "confusing" to viewers.
Like in the viewers are too dumb to figure out what is going on with the 'frontier' [NOT "western"] aspect of the show.
Oh, and when I got the DVDs I started recording over my VHSs because they were recorded at SLP and looked like fei-oo.

I still got mine, well, half of the episodes on tape anyway. I haven’t watched them much and the main reason I’ve kept them is because they have the Finnish subtitles. Not that I need subtitles for English sake but they translated the Chinese too, which is fun. It still bothers me a bit that I don’t have all the episodes on tape.

Still got mine - we managed to tape every episode on its original air night except "Our Mrs. Reynolds" because we were out of town and our housesitter goofed up our VCR somehow. Funny that one turned out to be my favorite episode. :)

My tapes aren't going anywhere either.

HobartFloyt - love your username. I might be the only one on the board who knows where it comes from (those books are my favorite space opera novels EVER.)

Wow *__* That's really cool! But you know, it explains why the galaxy's a bit different. I got kind of confused as to where Earth would lie if it was still around amongst all the other new planets including old ones. Lol that has to be one of the little nit picky things I never figured out on my own.

Is this legit fact on Joss's part?

Still got mine including the bad taping of ‘War Stories’ that caused me to buy a new VCR/DVD player. Who would have guessed that DVD player would have come in handy…

I'm pretty sure there were three different intros - one with Book, two with Mal - but seeing as I've taped over my SciFiUK recordings I can't very well check :(

This might sound strange, but everytime I think of the intros playing over an episode I keep getting Mal walking to the buyer in the first part of Shindig with someone voing....

Does that ring a bell to anyone or am out of my mind? O__O;;
