Okay fireflyers, since we all dreamed up new seasons on the old thread how 'bout motion pictures or mini-series?

I would personally want to see the Galactic Civil War. See how Mal and Zoe met and the over-all picture of the war, even all of the Battle of Serenity Valley and the New Kashmir winter campaign.

And find out if Book is General Richard Wil- (then Zoe cut us off.) the general that won Serenity Valley for the Alliance.

Just a couple of thoughts. Anyone else want to see things in Motion Picture or Mini-Series formats?

The problem with a movie from a tv series is that it often ends up being a giant, disconnected episode. It would take a pretty ballsy producer/director team to either build into a series or expand on a series.

That said, let's call the Matrix brothers, and get them to do a theatrical serial of Firefly. Giant, CONNECTED episodes, released two or three a year, would be just uber. Hell, I'd never watch Star Wars again.

That said, we need a tv mini-series titled "Secrets" or some such, where all the hidden things pop out, with much creepifying revealingness, and twining into something eerie-ass and mystifying, but wrapping up the hanging story arcs, so that a movie would be just the next most natural thing....

Oh my god. That makes me want to use the f-word and kick people in the face, but in a good way!!!

In any mini-series or movie, we must learn about Book. Not that this is the way my ultimate dreams go, per se, but it is a solid path. Book is the most elusive character, from whom we have the most to gain.

It's exciting when you think about it! Can you imagine the confrontation? Book is revealed as that General and Zoe has to put herself between him and Mal to prevent the bloodshed. Does Mal end up having to choose between ultimate vengance and Zoe?!?!?!

Holy crispy crap!

Mal is the column supporting the rest of the group. He is the known strength, straight and mostly predictable, without needless foofahraw.

What if that strength was lost? What if Mal's priorities changed? I recall "Outlaw Josie Wales", and the way Clint's character went from family man to hell-bent avenger to wanted wanderer and back to family man. Could Mal realize such a transformation? And how would that change the dynamics aboard 'Serenity'?

hmm...

I loved Outlaw Josie Wales. It fits to Mal's character better than his tight pants at the Persephony Shindig.

Smash the whole thing up. Just what it would need to add the drama on thick. (Ask Sarah about my obsession with Drama.) What characters would side with whom. And how far is Mal willing to go to get his revenge against the man that crushed his spirit? IS he willing to destroy his new home, family and life; granted it's not great but it ain't nothin', just to get that precious crimsion for his revenge. If he did, what would happen to the crew, how would they react. Remember: Kaylee, Jayne, Simon, River and Inara like the Shepard and Wash don't like killin' people unless he don't know them, like baddies. Zoe is strange here I don't know which side she'd be on.

FIREFLYPASSENGER

I was thinking:

What if they made a series of movies telling the back story on each character, ending with how they come together on Serenity.

There would be a movie explaining everyone's journey to Serenity. One movie could focus on 2 or 3 people's story. All of them ending with their arrival on Serenity.

Then we would really know them, while they are still getting to know each other.

What do you guys think? I would love to see it!

Don't squat with your spurs on.

The Outlaw Josey Wales is one of my favorite movies. I liked it so much I gotGone to Texas, the book it was based on, out of the library. I highly recommend it.

Anyway,I agree that Josey Wales is a good parallel to Mal Renyolds. I don't know what Mal's reason for fighting against the alliance was, aside from wanting to be free and not ruled by laws from far off planet. Josey wouldn't have gone to war if it weren't for the raid on his home. If Cantrell's Rangers had comitted that atrocity he might have easily gone over to the Union.

The thing about both men is that they became all about looking after the people (or stray dogs) they picked up along the way. If Josey was all about revenge, he'd have killed (I'm sorry I can't remember his name) the turncoat Rebel Officer in the bar at the end of the story. I don't know maybe 'cause he was wounded and he could have been out of bullets, but I think he was just done with killing. I don't think Mal would sacrifice his crew and ship for revenge. After the way Zoe described the aftermath of the battle for Serenity Valley I think Mal has a thing bout not letting "his crew" or anyone under his care die.

You know that might be a good story line. Imagine if Mal has to protect the Browncoat General responsible for abandoning his unit at Serenity Valley.

I have a thought. What if it turns out Mal fought for the independance because Mal's father abandoned his mother and was high ranking with the proponents for the alliance. As it happens so was Book, which is a theory I've heard someone else forward. Book and Mal's father served together and after the war Book came looking for Mal as a favour to his father who passed during the conflict. Just a thought.

Nothing buys bygones faster than hard cash.

That would be interesting.

What if, Mal's mother was killed by the Alliance. In Mal's character description is says,

Defeated soldier who opposed the unification of the planets by the Alliance to no avail. The world he once called home is now gone.

Now it could be figurative that Mal's world is gone or it could be that the possible that the Alliance hit Shadow hard during the War. And in that conflict Mal's Mother was killed. What do you think people?

What if after the war Mal goes back to Shadow and finds out that some pro alliance neighbors tried to burn his mother out and she was killed trying to defend her home. He returns to a burned out shell and a grave.

What if?

What if we discover Mal had an opportunity to make a totally honest living with the Serenity but chose to go outlaw...would going legit involve too much toadying up to the Alliance?

Just watched "Out of Gas" again and one thing struck me.

Jayne Cobb is really the only professional criminal in our whole group.

Zoe and Mal are military veterans; Wash is a pilot...cargo?...passengers?...commercial?....
Kaylee is a mechanic.

Did Mal buy the Serenity with the notion of "hey, I'm gonna screw the Alliance by becoming a space pirate or a smuggler!" or did he start out with the hope and intent of being a totally legitimate businessman and only gradually turned to shadier deals out of desperation?

I don't think Mal started out with the idea of being an outlaw. He just wanted to live indepdently, that's what he fought for. Circumstances being what they are the only legimate work was for the Alliance. So he turned to smuggling.
