Serenity will have more screenings, more than Lord of the Rings had, at the world famous Edinburgh Film Festival due to great demand to see Serenity say organizers. This is also Serenity's World Premiere. I think this is only the tip of iceberg of what is to come.

Festival filmgoers in a frenzy for Serenity

By Mona McAlinden

THE Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) has arranged two extra screenings of Serenity, the feature-film directorial debut of Joss Whedon, creator of the cult TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel, following the “extraordinary” demand for its world premiere.
The Oscar and Emmy- nominated Whedon wrote and directed Serenity, which is the big-screen incarnation of his TV series Firefly.

The action thriller, set 500 years in the future, will now have two additional screenings, arranged by the festival and the film’s distributor, Uni ted International Pictures.

The film is not due to make its US theatrical debut until September 30, and will open at cinemas in the UK and Ireland on October 7.

EIFF artistic director Shane Danielsen, who has described Whedon as more influential in TV sci-fi and fantasy than anybody since Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, said: “When we get such a clear signal from the fans that they’re so passionate about a particular film, we’re more than happy, wherever we can, to make additional screen ings possible.”

Serenity will receive its official gala premiere screening on Monday, August 22, to be followed on August 23 by a Reel Life interview with the writer and director.

The first extra screening will be a matinee on August 23. The second will be part of the Festival’s Best of the Fest line-up on August 28. Tickets will not be available until tomorrow, July 18. Full details of ticket availability will be posted shortly on the EIFF website.

The programme for this year’s EIFF is being distributed with today’s Sunday Herald. The event, which was launched in 1947 as part of of the Edinburgh International Festival, is now the longest continuously running film festival in the world.

The newspaper said that the tickets would go on sale today, the 18th and as the site and booking lines only open at 12:00 I guess it will be then. I was sooooo sad on Friday nights when I lost out on tickets after coming so close. Thank goodness for Harry Potter!

I spoke to the box office at 12:05 and they had already sold out. They said it was web-sales and geeks at the box office. I can't speak for the geeks ( If I didn't live in Birmingham I would be there with them ) but the web page never got updated.

AHHHHH!

a)people picking up tickets in person. If I had known somebody in Edinburgh I could impose on that's what I would have done.

b)phones. A friend of mine phoned ahead of time to complain about last Friday, and got tickets for the Q&A and the Wednsday instead!

I think a lot of the tickets went to disgruntled customers who had got tickets in their basket but weren't able to checkout. So there would have been far fewer tickets available than first time around, plus there was only one screen up for sale this time.

They had a queue at the box office and over phone, basically. I spoke to them myself at the time.

If they had offered it online, their website clearly can't cope with the box office/credit check/basket situation so it would have gone pete tong again, so they opted to do it the easy way.

STILL nothing on the website. I even have an e-mail from someone at the festival stating that they would go on sale on line at 12:00. Looks like a wait until October for me.

I wonder if they opened ACTUAL box office before the phone lines...

I don't think it's particularly fair to dish out tickets early to people just because they complained. I could well have complained, but I understand how difficult it is for vendors to deal with incredibly high demand so I kept my mouth shut. *sigh*

Haaang on. The artice at the top of this page says the 23rd, but the website says the 24th. I was SURE that it origionaly said the 23rd and the woman at the box office also said the 23rd.

Anywho, I'm done for today. I'll post if the person I was emailing at the festival gets back to me with the explanation of the no-existant web sales.

Right, But there's a thread disputing IMDB, stating other info has a different name. When I saw the film I saw what IMDB has, yet still disputed. Thus, asking for "fresh eyes" to clear it up. not asking for it to be posted here, but maybe within that thread. which already mentions both names.
