What number did you guys use? I was trying 0131 623 8030 and keep getting the answering machine. I pressed the last button to pay for my tickets and got an error arrrgh! and then my basket emptied 5 minutes early and now they are sold out. I was hoping that the sale had gone through, but I haven't got a mail from them.

Who was tempted to leave a message for the darlings on the answer phone. The height of frustration is NOT a one armed man, hanging off a cliff with an itchy butt, it is a browncoat deperately trying to get through to the Edinburgh Film Festival for a pair of tickets! Excuse me while I grab the whips and salt.............

Yes keep trying all day, heck for the rest of the week if you have to. As my experience shows(I ended up with 6 extra tickets!)the online booking system is causing a major headache and I'm guessing that a ton of people have ended up just re-entering their card details after getting blank pages or errors and have then been allocated more tickets than they need.

So I'm guessing many tickets will slowly be released back into the system as these over sales are sorted out.

So don't lose hope and keep trying and maybe I'll see ya all there next month.

The woman called back! I've got one for the 22nd! Now I just need to keep trying for the Reel Life thing, she was lovely and helpful but I didn't get chance to interrupt her flow and ask about that too. I know if I manage it I'll get charged an extra pound again, but I don't really mind too much.

Finally managed to get a ticket for the Wednesday for Browncoat Katie on holiday in Russia at the moment. You do get an email response by the way.

Advert time.

Some of the London Browncoats will remember Katie from a shindig earlier in the year. She asked the Star Wars questions in the quiz. Well all you lucky people heading for Edinburgh should check out her latest play if you have time:

I think there was an advance clue in the fact that it was being held in Torquay.

The dreadful state of the phones was bad enough. But the abysmal web setup was really too much. Even someone with a rudimentary knowledge of site creation would have setup proper balancing between the front end and the back end to ensure that the mass dropping of baskets didn't occur. We're not talking a £5m solution here, just a day sorting out proper setup.

Perhaps if the designers had spent a little less time thinking of amusing quotes to put on the pages and more time doing their job, we'd all have been finished a couple of hours earlier.

I tried at lunch time but failed. Now it's sold out. I didn't keep trying for ages because it reminded me of two years ago when I tried for nearly 24 hours to get glastonbury tickets and failed.

I doubt Edinburgh has ever had a film that is so eagerly anticipated before. It's pretty rare for non-sequel to have so many fans before its release.

The problem is that online shopping is pretty demanding on web servers, requiring database transactions and encryption. They could have big expensive distributed system running on multiple servers around the world - like google or windows update. But that is very very expensive - especially if you just need it for one day!

What they should do for things like this is scrap the shopping basket and compress the whole process to one big form and one stage. That would reduce the load on the server and would eliminate the frustration of struggling to get through several steps only for it to fail at the final hurdle.

EXCITINGNEWCRIME

Some good news, guys!!

http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/news/articles/detail/16

After the extraordinary demand for the World Premiere and debut feature from director (and Buffy creator) Joss Whedon?s new film Serenity, Edinburgh International Film Festival and distributor UIP reacted immediately today by arranging two more screenings.

Keen not to disappoint the fans EIFF Artistic Director Shane Danielsen said: “When we get such a clear signal from the fans that they’re so passionate about a particular film, we’re more than happy, wherever we can, to make additional screenings possible.”

The first new screening will be a matinee on Wednesday 23rd August . The second screening will be part of the Festival’s Best of the Fest line-up on Sunday 28th August. Tickets for the first new screening will not be available until Mon18th July and tickets for the Best of the Fest screening will not be available until Mon 22 August.

I've got mine sorted, so I'm torn between a "more the merrier" approach in which I try to get a couple of tickets for those who don't manage it themselves, because the more people trying the more chance there'll be, and a "stay WELL away and have less people on the system" approach.

That's cos the forum software is crap I've just tried everything I know to fix the url and it won't display the link properly..

For anyone clickig it, when you get the 'film not found' link on the site it goes to, add the end '/ manually and hit return, it'll get you to the film. Crappy forum software.

Thanks muchly for the link; I feel a trip north o' the border coming on.

Just thought I'd add a note that Serenity made the national newspaper today - the Scotland on Sunday. Just a little article about all the problems with the phones and websites, saying it was unprecedented, mentioning the two extra screenings that were going on, and then the synopsis of the film copied out of the festival brochure. Mentioned Buffy too.

Many thanks to the person who posted that different phone number - that's the one that helped me get some tickets - though I didn't get enough for everyone in our party, which is quite upsetting. I'm holding out hope.

I've just about forgiven my little sister too: she was working at midday, took a break about 12:15, called once, got straight through, and got 3 tickets for the Monday premiere. Then she innocently called me and asked if I had my tickets yet. We're speculating that maybe it was quicker to get through if you called from an Edinburgh phone number?? She redeemed herself by obtaining two more tickets for me - not sure what she did to get a hotline to the damn place though... So frustrating... The two Australians who seemed to be the only ones manning the phone line were lovely when I did get through though - even called me back to confirm the purchase.

But I am still holding on the celebrations till I have the tickets in my hand...
