What kind of spoilers? Are they plot related or just the spoilers of hearing the music?

OMG. They're great pieces of music (and that's all they are, just the music), utterly fitting. I saw the rough cut, which obviously had none of this in it, and I'm sure they're going to fit perfectly in.

Splendid! Plus it looks as though the international trailer is going to be online at that site soon. Proof Gossi is a prince among men.

Oh, my.

The first clip, "Serenity" made me tear up. Did the first few seconds remind anyone else of the bit of music at the end of "The Message"?

Very moving.

Man, I cannot wait to see the finished movie!

Oh, BTW, the spoilers are plot-related - they're in the names of the files, but what's on the page itself is just vague descriptions. If you can listen without looking at the file name you're probably OK.

Thank you SO MUCH! People have claimed elsewhere that the screenings DIDN'T have actual music from the movie, but only fillers - but I assure you I heard the first track ('Serenity') in the two (yes, two ) screenings I attended (5/5 and 6/23). And it DID bring tears to my eyes.

MUGTWAINE

Hi everybody,

I lurk here a lot but don't post much (usually only in the mad rush for pre-screening tickets). Anyway, just wanted to say that this stuff sounds great. Thanks for the link!

I listen to a lot of film scores (kind of a hobby of mine, actually), and I was really nervous this score wouldn't FEEL right. But they nailed it, I think. I'm glad they've gone with the very western sound.

I have actually seen the movie twice at this point, and I agree that might have been the "Serenity" track I heard in the movie already. The violin solo at the beginning is very familiar. But then again since the recording sessions were very recent, it might just be a case of temp tracking being followed closely. Or maybe this one track was a sort of "audition" for David Newman, and hence was ready for the pre-screenings.

I'm pretty sure the three other tracks are new, though. I know exactly where they fit in the movie, and in fact I can almost re-play the movie line for line along with the four tracks. This is probably not much of a spoiler, but based on the titles and the content of the music itself, these four tracks are all from within the first half hour of the film (probably more like the first 20 minutes), and since they're so good I can't wait to hear what the finale is like!

I pay a lot of attention to scores while watching movies, and I know that most of the music I heard during Serenity came from other films. I'm thinking of one scene in particular that used the finale from Signs to a very emotional, chilling, goosebumpy effect, and I can't wait to hear how that main theme from the "Serenity" track fits in there. Should be amazing. Without spoilers, does anybody know what part I'm talking about? It's toward the end... Very dramatic, great stuff.

Anyway, you guys keep posting interesting stuff, and I'll keep lurking!

Listening to them now. Yeah I think I recall hearing the first one, and the first part of it does pull you in emotionally. the fourth track is pretty haunting.

Well I won't be going to the page and listening to the music because of the light spoilers. If someone wants to be extra special nice and copy the tracks and name them 'Track 1(2)(3)(4)' and mail them to this address

That way anyone can listen to un-spoilered tracks.

I love soundtracks. I buy them for most of the films I see. Most of my CDs are soundtracks, I think. So I can't wait to hear the full version of the Serenity soundtrack

Sgtgump, expect something in your mailbox a little later.

I love film soundtracks too. I'm more of the Elfman, Barry school but I've got love for pretty much all of them. This has been a really bad year for losing great composers so it's nice to see a new generation coming through.

I think a few famous composers died this year... can't rememer who though.

Would you believe I didn't realise Batman Begins was a Zimmer? I wasn't paying enough attention, I spose. And War of The Worlds didn't sound particularly Williams, either. Which is good, of course, it wouldn't do to sound the same all the time.

Hasn't been published online in file format, but David Newman has also reworked an instrumental version of the 'Firefly' theme, into a western/chinese epic vibe. It's going at the very end of the movie as the credits roll.

yeah i didnt realise it was a zimmer. i had an inkling when the tumbler chase was on. but it's good when it doesn't sound like the usual stuff the composer does. that's becoming something that james horner does a lot. all of his new and old scores sound so the same. and yep, agree with WOTW one too, i knew it was williams but again sounded quite different to his usual.

A bad year for losing composers. Over the past 12 months, we've lost Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven), Jerry Goldsmith (Star Trek, The Omen), and Michael Kaman (Die Hard, X-Men), definitely three greats who are now sadly decomposing.

Yeah, Hans Zimmer is brilliant. Now We Are Free from Gladiator and the opening song from True Romance are personal favourites.

Oh and Batman Begins's soundtrack is actually written by two great composer, Zimmer and James Newton Howard; Zimmer did the action pieces, JNH did the more intimate character based stuff.

You'd think I'd remember that, since I own the gorram thing.

And the weird track titles? The latin names of species of bat.

If there's one thing I hate when it comes to soundtracks, it's when the tracks on the CD are not in the order they appear in the film. Does that seem right to you?

Sounds like a very cool idea. In fact, when that first string solo comes up in "Serenity," I remember thinking "Well, they've definitely kept the Asian flavor." It immediately reminded me of something like Tan Dun's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" with all its cello solos... Especially that little lift into the second phrase of the "Serenity" theme, right after the tinkling chimes start fading in...

Hearing it again now (I'm more and more convinced that this track was in fact what I heard in the movie), it sounds a bit less Asian to me but I can see how Newman could take it into that territory very easily.

Funny thing is I can usually name the composer on a film after just a few seconds, but I don't know Newman all that well. Just Galaxy Quest. I also don't know Carter Burwell very well. For a minute I got nervous that maybe this great stuff was from his rejected score and wouldn't be in the film, but I don't think that's really the case.

Still, I thought the score recordings were only supposed to have taken place a few weeks ago, in late June. I saw the first two screenings, not the last one. And I could swear now that first track was in.

Funny thing is, having seen the film twice I can basically remember exactly where all this stuff should be in the movie. Maybe I just remember the images so well and the music is so appropriate, I'm convincing myself the music was there all along... Wouldn't put it past myself, I took a psych class in college where I studied some experiments where people were convinced they remembered things that never happened, so I could just be making it up.

By the way, for anyone avoiding the link because there are spoilers, I wouldn't be too worried about it. One is just called "Serenity", so hopefully that won't ruin anything for you.

All four tracks are from the beginning of the movie before the big and crazy stuff starts happening. One of the tracks has a name that is somewhat equivalent to "Walking Down the Street" in terms of spoiler content. The final two are related to each other and involve a bit of activity that criminal-types are like to involve themselves in. Hopefully that won't be a surprise either.

So anyway, don't be too afraid of clicking the link. It's really basic stuff, nothing intriguing and nothing you won't know about ten minutes into the movie anyway.

Oh, but stay away from the track called "Rivers%20Giant%20Secret%20Is%20Just%20Kidding%20I%20Wouldnt%20Spoil%20THAT.wma"

Figures - buy the time I get home and install a .wma coverter, 3 of the 4 tracks are no longer active links. Can you help a brother out? If you could send to admin at scifiradio.net I'd be grateful. The one I did grab (GFAR) and convert is real nice, reminds me of the Lemony Snickets soundtrack by Thomas Newman... don't suppose they are related do you? Nah...

Holy crap.

I was so worried about the soundtrack. You folks should know by now that Firefly's music meant a lot to me (hence my spending several months recording each and every song on the dvd and making them available for you guys to download), but this new stuff sounds... shiny!

Brings a tear to the ol' eye, and a bit of reassurance. Thanks for posting a link to it :)

Oh, I haven't seen the movie in any way shape or form... and I don't feel "spoiled", so I think those of you who are wanting to remain spoiler-free should feel safe to listen to these.
