I hope everyone caught what I did...the Sci-Fi channel will be airing the trailer for Serenity next week during Firefly! Of course, I don't know if this means the first hour or the second hour! Who knows maybe they'll show it on Lifetime one of the many times that channel will be airing the movie that Sean is in (plug here)The Dive from Clausen's Pier (he's playing "Kilroy"). Or better yet - Adam's show The Inside.

Here's hoping!!

They're showing 2 hours next week?
Why didn't they show it in widescreen????? And the sound was bad (I have great suround sound system but on TV it sounded "tinny" in places). Arrrggh! I guess I'm gonna have to loan out my DVDs so the folks I told to watch it can see a decent version.

I like it better in widescreen, but damn it, I was just so glad to see it being broadcast again, that I can almost forgive the problems.

True--but SciFi is really good about showing most programs in widescreen. Heck even a lot of their adds are WS. I told a guy from work that it would look great on his big-screen TV. Just kinda disappointed.

The original broadcasts for Firefly were in full-screen because Fox Network wouldn't air it in widescreen. It would seem that Sci-Fi has only got the rights to the aired episodes.

Something to note that I found out tonight. Sci-Fi won't be airing the three unaired episodes. Just the episodes that aired originally and in the format that they aired. That really sucks.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Keeps the DVD set "special" if SciFi doesn't air the unaired episodes. People thinking about buying it won't be satisfied with just taping it off of SciFi 'cause they'll be missing those eps. That's my guess, anyway.

If that's true, maybe it will actually sell more DVDs. They do list info on all the Firefly eps on the SciFi site--even the unaired ones. I had read that the unaired ones were to be shown, but I don't remember where I saw that. I'll stick to the widescreen DVDs. Just so much better in WS.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

For just a second I thought, perhaps they decided to do this so they could air Objects In Space by the release date of the BDM. But no, they'll be showing War Stories on 2005 Sept 30. So we won't even know, absolutely, positively, & fer sher, 'til a week after the BDM opens.

OK---According to SciFi, ALL episodes will be aired.
This copied straight from their site:

SCI FI Channel 7/22/2005 7:00 p.m. ET/PT

The Sci Fi Channel airs Firefly, Joss Whedon's cult-fave space opera series, and the basis of the upcoming Serenity feature film. The 15 episodes will air on Fridays before new episodes of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica.

Yeah, I was really disappointed to see it in full screen. And you're right about the sound. Didn't it seem like the dialog was too quiet compared to the sound effects and music? But I probably only notice this stuff because I've seen the DVDs 10 thousand times.

Still, it was nice to see Firefly on TV again!

Was it just me, or did watching tonight just feel right? Seeing the first half of Serenity on TV with the scifi logo. Not to mention experiencing the act breaks as actual act breaks (with commercials and all). It was a completely different experience than watching the DVDs, I really enjoyed it.

What I'll be really interested to see is the ratings and how they stacked up to SciFi's other Friday night shows.

But wasn't the original FOX broadcast of "Serenity" in widescreen? I'll have to dig out my VHS copy...

That is incorrect! If you check the Firefly site over at Sci-Fi.com, they list every episode from the DVD set, including the unaired episodes "Trash", "The Message", and "Heart Of Gold". All episodes will be shown in the same order as they appear on the DVD set.

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

ok, bit of nit pickery here, but when mal was in his quarters, buttoning his fly etc. as he closed the toilet, they took out the sound of the "flush", though it was still in the captions...

don;t get me wrong, just having the show back on RV was...Magical, but that was such a pointless edit to me.
they leave in inara's moaning( which could become slightly emabarrasing for me, since my uncle called me right before that scene, and i was still on the phone wit him during that scene, and i had the tv pretty loud... he'll probably think i was watching porn or something), but edit out a toilet flush? OK!

...May have been the losing side, Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I was absolutely filled with glee watching it last night. Just the thrill of seeing it being shown on television again. I didn't care that the video and audio quality were poor, or that it wasn't widescreen. I almost always watch TV with CC on and it was great seeing that most of the chinese was even written out with fairly correct english letter spellings (not that I'm an expert).

Seeing the mini-promo for the serenity trailer next week had me in giggles...

Hear, hear!

Also, I LOVED that little firey Serenity-shaped logo at the end of the episode. I don't think we've seen that anywhere before, have we? I wonder if they'll have that after every episode, or just this one 'cause it's a "to be continued."

By the way, does anyone know if the sound and picture looked the same on FOX?

Yeah, I too loved the Serenity logo at the end! It was a nice lil' lagniappe. ( cajun for - a little something extra )

Other quick observations: The SciFi logo kinda got in the way of some of the titles, like early on when Mal et al were on the salvage job. At the bottom of the screen, the caption read - 'Six years later' with the SciFi logo appearing at the end. 'Six years later Sci Fi' ??? Ok, maybe not.

The cool 'black out ' screens that would appear after a scene but before the commercial came on. They were sorta cool, and I wish some how they had been included in the DVD. Something in the DVD commentary that Joss said as to why they used them, and how it had something to do w/ the automated systems that ran the commercials when ever a blank screen appears.... I dunno.

I couldn't help but think of the new converts to the show as it was being aired. Trying to look at the show impartially, as one who hasn't seen it 100 times before. It really doesn't start to pull me in untill they're all on board Serentiy and events start to unfold. And the cliff hanger at the ends....'Huh'.

Classic

I would have to agree with the "keep the Dvd set special" idea there. I work at a local Suncoast Motion Picture and we are sold out almost every week. I was lucky to get my own copy

They used that graphic at the end of every show when it was originally on F*x, too...
