WUGGLYUMP

Just dropping in and saying hello to people with a common interest. Hey Jadehand (waves)
I’ve been a sci-fi fan since the 70s and glad to see someone got the entertainment industry to finally make a non pabulum sci-fi series like Firefly with most of the substance, plot, feel, technology and such I’ve wanted in a series for years; too bad Fox screwed up in not supporting this show and kudos to the Sci-Fi channel for picking it up.

There are elements to Firefly that appeal to me based on earlier works that formed my own similar vision of the future. Firefly has that gritty, almost desperate, against the universe, feel Blakes Seven had along with similar great writing and fine character portrayal; often the most believable hero is the antihero and yes, villains can be the good guys sometimes.
The socioeconomic underpinnings remind me of a combination of Jerry Pournelles War World, Falkenburges Legion books combined with William Gibson’s all powerful corporate world feudalism. And, I even see a lot of the 2300AD and Traveler role-playing games in it. It makes me wonder if someone saw the same shows and read the same books or played the same games I had.
Anyway, I’m happy someone finally pulled all the right concepts together and made this wonderful show. I hope the movie reignites enough interest to continue Firefly or spawn a similar endeavor and displace some of the Taste Great, less filling FX heavy, poor acting/writing Sci-fi pabulum we seem to be inundated with these days. Hell, I'm wearing out my Cowboy Bebop DVD's and Firefly is soon to follow!

Jadehand, are you and any of the crew from NC going to Dragon Con in September? I’ll see if I can get the Tallahassee group up and maybe our mutual friend in Alabama. I hear he may return from the lands of gritty food, nasty sunburns and 5.56mm showers about that time.

I loved watching Firefly when it came out back when but only saw three episodes thanks to the chaos that was my life then and the way the local Fox carrier kept screwing with the air times, preemptions and what not. Heck, I remember one night Firefly got bumped by reality TV. Gimmie a break please! Crack head scheduling! Maybe it wasn’t the right time for Fox to stop sniffing glue. Anyway, glad to see the show again; eagerly awaiting the movie.

nice. Takes me back to "Airplane!" the movie. so much fun. Current Dragon*Con plans include....Me. Others in NC that went last time state that they prefer to go only every 2-3 years and/or are making other vacationy plans (Mexico!). I have a room a block away this time so no driving 12 miles back to the hotel, which of course means more drinking for me. I failed to get my D*C ticket before the pricing deadline so I'll likely just get it on arrival. Recent contacts with our 'Bama friend indicate he'll be beating the desert heat "over there" until 1st of Oct., so he should be back in time to catch Serenity at least the second week. Which is good, she needs a strong second week as much (if not more) than a first week. Unfortunately, no D*C for him, not sure if his wife and friends from last year are going.
oh, and that wasn't just your local FOX carrier, that was everywhere. Shocking that she's still flyin' in any way. "We've done the impossible........"
Feel free to e-mail privately to discuss further potential plans for D*C.
