While perousing SCI FI's website and manually exploring their September schedule, I came upon this page for September 27th!

Wow! Ten episodes plus a 30-minute "Serenity" special! Shiny! Your thoughts?

oh this is so exciting!
I had been bemoaning (quietly, to myself)
the fact that Sci-fi didn't start off with a marathon before running all the episodes...
but this is SO much cooler!
If any people had come along and become fans but missing some of the episodes,
they can watch the whole thing in one gulp on Tuesday Sept 27th...
just in time to find the comics and STILL get to the theater for the opening weekend!

Yay!

It would be cool if it was on a weekend and we could have all day Firefly parties.

Actually you wont. SciFi did not start airing them early enough to run all 15 episodes before the movie comes out. So depending on what episodes they air that day, you may need to tape some of them during the marathon, or even after.

Of course you could also buy the DVD so you can watch them commercial free, widescreen, with commentary, deleted scenes, and a few specials.

Ooh, that looks Shiny. It looks real Shiny. I've been wanting to do that with my DVD's for a while, but having it on TV is all that much more special.

Actually, clearly the answer is to buy the DVD's to get all the extra goodness and commercial-free viewing, AND watch Sci-Fi's episodes, because if nothing else, people (myself included) have been noticed marked differences between the two. Anyone else notice different markings on the crybaby in the pilot?

Great!!! In the MIDDLE of the week. In the MIDDLE of the day.
Nice for those of us who have jobs with business hours.
I won't winj too much because I'm lucky in that we have TVs at work and I'll be able to watch at the switchboard from 12-1 and then at my lunch hour from 1-2.
When I get home from work I'll set the VCR for the Serenity Special (heeeeeee!!!!).
I think I'll try some mass conversions and have the lunchroom tvs set to sci-fi all day...

I've been so so spoiled by watching the DVD set:
1. Widescreen is the way to go with this show. I'm finding myself really annoyed that Sci-fi isn't broadcasting this in letterbox format. I feel like I'm missing stuff.
2. NO BLOODY COMMERCIALS! I've noticed while watching the re-broadcasts on Sci-fi, whenever there's a break it's jarring. The flow is interrupted and I want to throw something at the TV. Actually, I do that with just about anything I watch on TV that's not Cable.
3. The commentary tracks are fun and still make me laugh after all this time.

If you still don't have the DVD set, check Amazon. I bought it a couple of weeks ago (to gift my sis!) and it was on sale for $29.99!! (Regular price is $49.99, people. And tt might be going back up the closer we get to Serenity's opening day.)

This is exciting news indeed. I agree with several here, I've been spoiled with the DVDs so that the full screen-ness is a bother, and I feel as though there is something on the side I'm missing because of the aspect ratio. Ah well. Its very nice that Sci Fi chose to air the episodes to get more fans in, and its nice that they aired the episodes in order so far. I'm looking forward to the "behind the scenes" stuff we should be watching during Friday eps as well, and I'll def be looking forward to Sept 27th for this Serenity Special. It's going to be very Shiny.

Mal: Define interesting.
Wash: Oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die?

I had a feeling SciFi would do a pre-movie special--that's been their pattern. Yay!!!
