See, I think Thursdays are worse than Fridays because on Thursday I sit there and think "One more day, you have to make it through one more day." While Friday, I can focus on the end of the week, what I'm going to do that night, my plans for Saturday. I much prefer Fridays to Thursdays.

Plus, for some reason, I've never liked the word "Thursday". Bleh. Certainly we could have come up with a better word for a day than "Thursday".

In the United Kingdom, all general elections since 1935 have been held on a Thursday, and this has become a tradition, although not a requirement of the law.

In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, Arthur Dent says "This must be a Thursday. I could never get the hang of Thursdays".

Thursday is named for Thor.

In the Hindu religion, Thursday is guruvar or the Guru's day.

Quakers traditionally refer to Thursday as "Fifth Day" eschewing the "pagan" origin of the name "Thursday".

Yup, this thread is too long again. Time to kill it off and I know just how to do that:

A noble brave of the Choctaw tribe in what is now known as Kentucky had three lovely brides. When he married the first, his childhood sweetheart, they spent the wedding night on a buffalo hide. Nine months later, the noble brave became the proud father of his first papoose, a boy, destined to grow up as noble a brave as his father.

The next year, the noble brave went away with the fittest and strongest braves of his tribe on a bear hunt. Whilst they were away, a hostile neighbouring tribe of Chickasaws raided the village, killed some of the old Indians and kidnapped some of the younger maidens of the tribe. In a rescue mission, the noble brave distinguished himself in the fierce fighting and helped to rescue the maidens without further losses. One of the maidens had lost both her parents in the raid and had no family left. The noble brave honourably took her as his second wife. They spent the wedding night on a bear hide. Nine months later, the noble brave was presented with his second papoose, a girl, destined to grow up to be as beautiful and intelligent as her mother.

Another year passed. Tribal conflict continued. The noble brave carried out some outstanding feats of boldness and courage, the greatest of which was saving his Chief in particularly bitter fight with the Chickasaws. The Chief rewarded the noble brave by allowing him to take his youngest and most beautiful daughter as his third wife. The wedding night came and passed. Many other nights came and passed, but the Chief's daughter produced no papoose. Tongues began to wag. The other tribespeople began whisper that the brave was perhaps not so noble; after all, the Chief's own daughter could not possibly be at fault. The Chief began to question his own judgment in giving his daughter in marriage. The noble brave consulted the village medicine man, who said they must try a new type of hide. The noble brave was sent on an epic voyage to a little known land called Africa. He was sent to hunt the rivers of that land for a great creature called a hippopotamus and bring its hide back to the village.

The noble brave, as ever, succeeded in the seemingly impossible quest. He spent the night of his return from Africa on the hide with the Chief's daughter. Much to the delight of the noble brave, the Chief and the whole tribe, the Chief's daughter produced TWO papooses nine months later, one boy and one girl.

Which goes to show that squaw on the hippopotamus is equal to the sum of the squaws on the other two hides.
