Hi,

I know that a number of people approached the SE Browncoats about selling their Firefly-related art and wares through the Browncoat table at Dragon*Con. For several reasons, the SE Browncoats had to turn them away; well, I wanted to post about this great opportunity for those and other artists.

Renowned fantasy artist Karalyn is sponsoring an Art Crawl at Dragon*Con. This is similar in concept to a Studio Crawl, in which members of the public tour various artists studios. The difference is that the D*C Art Crawl will take conventioners to various rooms in the Marriott, where artists and crafters (and musicians like me!) will have their wares on display.

While this event is not being sponsored by the convention itself, both the artistic director and the general director of Dragon*Con have given the Art Crawl their approval and encouragement. (I imagine they see it as one more great reason to attend D*C--only they didn't have to organize it themselves! *grin*)

The great thing is also that the cost for displayers is merely a $20 donation to the Art Crawl publicity fund. So if you make Kaylee parasols, Jayne hats, Firefly art, tee-shirts, custom costume pieces, wobbly-headed geisha dolls, or even something *not* related to Firefly, this is a great venue.

Of course, the event is free to attendees, and it's a great way to get up close and personal with some fabulous artists--without all the distractions of a huge vendor room.

This is exactly the kind of guerrilla event that fits the Browncoat spirit, so please participate and spread the word. For more information, check out www.wardragyn.com or email karalyn@wardragyn.com.

Keep flyin',

Cedric

P.S. The Bedlam Bards will be there performing "The Ballad of Joss" and other Firefly-inspired music. Anyone who purchases one of our CDs will get a FREE recording of "The Ballad of Joss." See you there!

Hi all,

Gonzai here, Karalyn's assistant for the Art Crawl. Like Cedric said, the Crawl will be a fun opportunity for Browncoats and other fans to see even more cool art, crafts and fannish goodies, plus hear the entertaining tunes of the Bedlam Bards. You want to attend the Crawl. Trust me.

And if you happen to be an artist or crafter or costumer or any other sort of creative type, we are still accepting artists for the Crawl. We want as many artists in diverse mediums as possible, so if you'd like to try your hand at selling your wares, please do contact us!

BUMP

Also, Karalyn is having a wine-and-cheese (and cookies and Coke) reception on Saturday night at 8 pm for artists and fans. She's asked the Bedlam Bards to play there. I warned her that we don't play sedate wine-and-cheese music, and she said it wouldn't be a sedate wine-and-cheese party. So if you don't get in enough Shindigage on Friday night, come to the party with live music on Saturday!
