Just a reminder, the new issue of Joss Whedon’s Fray is out this week. So check your local comic shop! It’s issue seven in an 8 issue series, with the final issue due in june.

Here’s the official word-

The wait is over!
Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, completes his vision of the future, the story of the future slayer. One of the fiercest battles in the history of comics, drawn in grand style by Karl Moline and Andy Owens, begins the climax to Dark Horse's runaway hit. So what do we have left for next issue? It just gets worse for this poor, young Slayer.

Keep Flying!

Eagerly awaited is right! How many... Years has it been since this series started? And it will conclude in June? That seem right to you...?

I enjoy Fray but I don't love it. Although the story about a future Slayer is a neat idea, the series lacks of lot of the signature left-hand turns and heartbreaking character moments Joss typically packs into his stories. It feels a lot like a pilot with loads of set-up and I would love it if it would get into the series and payoff already.

Too bad it took so long to come out and another series with Melaka Fray would be a long time from now, if ever. Dark Horse Comics will probably collect this in a trade paperback not long after the final issue comes out. Buffy and Joss fans will probably enjoy it, particularly if they don't have to wait years between issues.

To say that I have been eagerly awaiting this issue is the defination of understatment. I mean, comeon! You can just leave us on a cliffhanger like that for two and a half years! I've been bugging everybody but Santa Cause for this comic. (I wouldn't ask Santa because I'm afraid that what Anya said is true.) The people at my local comic book store all but clapped when they saw me walk in the door this Wendsday. I guess me constantly asking them about Fray got old after a year or so.

Personally, it was well worth the wait. Paticualary the two-page spread that ends the Fray-Icarus fight. Pitch-perfect Whedon.
