The Man They Call Soul...

Well, yet another thread for our fearless crew!! I figure I'll put up another thread after avery 100 posts or so, make it easier to find everything.

The previous thread is at:

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=11689

As TRM pointed out, I guess I have been jumping on everyone a bit for participation, ignoring that the goal here is for us to have fun!!! Let me bow my head shamefully. My whole point of becoming a Captain was to have fun, so that's what we need to be having!! Well, that, and cheesecake. Flechette!!! How are you at making cheesecake?

So listed below is the first crew challenge on the UB:

This is a challenge for the Crews only. We want you to locate the Serenity 'verse -related items listed below and submit photos of yourselves holding these items. Each member of the Crew you belong to will receive 50 Credits for each item found. Send your photos to your Crew Captain, then he or she will submit the photos for the entire Crew. Each crew should only submit one picture per item. Please remember that you must be pictured holding the item in order to get credit for finding it. If your Crew gets all 13 items, every crew member will receive an additional 500 Credits!

Items to be located:

Orange Knitted Hat
Strawberries
Plastic Dinosaurs
A Dulcimer
Blue Latex Gloves
A Dress with Ruffles
A Beagle
Carved Wooden Duck/Swan
Pretty Floral Bonnet
A Rain Stick
A Hawaiian Shirt
A Brown Coat
Serenity Comic Issue #1 Mal Cover

Ends Sep 01, 2005

It seems like we have most of the pictures covered. I think we're still needing an Orange Knitted Hat, A Dress With Ruffles, A Beagle, A Pretty Floral Bonnet, and a Rain Stick. "How come you got a wife and all I got was this dumbass stick that sounds like it's raining?" We've got until September 1st, so no need to rush. Just once you've got the pictures, go ahead and post them here and then e-mail them to me!

agmullins@gpsx.net

Let's enjoy this crew thing!!!

*Soul juggles chainsaws. Jack dives for cover.*

We'll see how it goes - I know the Asheboro Zoo has rainsticks cause I was thinking about buying one. I'm a member and go at least once a month so if we don't have a picture before then, I'll be sure to get one at that point. But I won't be going til either the 14th or the 21st - weather permitting : which in NC is a considerible factor

If anyone has a Nature store or discovery store in their area they generally have them too.

Edit - originally hailing from NY I make one heck of a cheesecake Captn!

Fletchette made cheesecake. Here, have a slice!

And good job Greek! You alone have taken care of 4 of the 13 items needed.

I dunno, Capt'n. I think Greek may need a promotion!

If I'd have gotten off my rump and gone to the craft store and bought yarn I could have knitted myself a cunning orange hat. But I haven't, so someone else is going to have to take care of that.

Well, I just got pictures of me with the dulcimer and wooden ducks. That was fun! I hope they turned out. I decided against the digital camera simply because I had half a roll I needed to finish it up, but I'll get it developed onto a CD and get them to the captain tomorrow.

Yay! I think this is so much fun! I love stuff like this. I've done road rally scavenger hunts where you're in a car with a group of people and a video camera and you have to drive around to different places and find things. For one of our clues once we were sitting on these life sized cow statues in front of some steak restaurant somewhere and the owner came out and yelled at us and made us leave. He was very very mad. It was hilarious. That was also the time that we laid down in the shape of the state of Florida on the roof of a car garage. Hee hee.

I hope you can find the rainstick, Jack, that'd be great! And then Fletchette wouldn't have to drive out to the zoo. Zoos aren't too much fun in hot, humid August.

Thanks, Captain!

Glad to be of service to bring you back from the edge of madness (or at least back TO the edge of madness).

I’ll do some talking within my circle of friends and see what I can come up with. Nothing is likely until a week from Saturday, I’m afraid.

While I am in awe of the efforts of Greek (cute dog, BTW), I suggest that we find some picture with TWO dinosaurs. The list of items clearly has “dinosaurs” in the plural and Wash played with "dinosaurs" in the plural, and I would hate to lose points on a technicality.

Have I been assigned strawberries and the cover of Serenity #1? It lists "me" as handling them.

But I am NOT the (possibly AR) jerk judging this contest! One who might not tell us it's disallowed until after the contest is over...

I'm not sure that they are really going to be that picky. Talking numbers and cents, I don't think the official site could be all that critical when you're looking at how many pictures that they are going to receive. A set of pictures from around 100 crews is 1300 pictures.

Oh, and one other thing, picture icons next to your moniker gets you a bit of points too...

Okay, I just emailed my pics to the Captain. I have 2 dulcimer pics and one with me and some wooden ducks. I can't post them here since I don't have a web photo album type thingy, but maybe Soul can.

I very nearly had a picture of toy dinos, but the stupid camera I bought broke and I had to return it and lost the picture. Very annoyed was I. But, we have the pic with one dino, and I'm sure we can get another.

Whitefall-Yay!!!! on the pretty floral bonnet. I was at a loss to think about where to get one! Now just get a picture of yourself in it (I'm a photophobe, too, but I did it. You can too!)

Also, I had an adventurous day. While waiting for my film to develop, I stopped at the craft store and bought yarn so now I am going to knit myself a cunning orange hat. If no one else can get a pic of one, I can have one by the deadline. It's just gonna take me a few weeks to knit it.
AND, I couldn't resist a peek in the chinese shop in the mall. They sell all sorts of fun stuff. I've bought chinese slippers and sandals there before, and an kaylee umbrella. Well, they were having a sale on clothing today and so I ended up buying a shirt. Just like those chinese dresses, but without the skirt part. Really cute. Blue and silver. I think I'm going to wear it in the Dragon*Con parade. (I know most of you don't care about what I wear, but it's a cute shirt and I think I look pretty cute in it.)

So, anyone having any luck with the ruffly dress? Or the rainstick?

Jazaf (and everyone else). Here's a recap of what we have and still need.

Greek got pictures of the browncoat, blue gloves, the beagle (very cute poochie) and possibly the plastic dinos. But there was only one and we're not sure if that'll count.

I sent Soul pictures of the dulcimer and wooden ducks.

Whitefall got the floral bonnet.

Fletchette has confirmed that she's doing strawberries and either she or TheRealMe are getting a picture with the comic.

That leaves the orange knitted hat, the rain stick, and the ruffled dress (come on, girls! Someone's got to have a girly dress somewhere in the back of their closet! The only dresses I have are the standard black and a hawaiian print one I made myself. No ruffles.) Also, we may want to get another backup dino picture if anyone's got access to plastic dinos.

My own personal update: I'm working on knitting a Jayne hat. I finished the orange and am working on yellow. I got a cute picture when my cunning orange cat decided that on top of my cunning orange hat was the perfect place to take a nap.

So, Jazaf and everyone else: get out there, hunt down the remaining items. Get a picture of yourself with the item and email said picture to our captain. (His email address is somewhere at the top of this thread.) Also, if possible, post the picture here for all to enjoy!

And help yourself to a slice of cheesecake when next in the galley. Remember: virtual cheesecake has no calories!

Aw, I've been missing out on all the fun! I didn't check in over the weekend and now everything's already taken care of. So frustrating because I HAVE A FLORAL BONNET AND FANCY DRESS RIGHT NEXT TO ME IN MY CLOSET! My family has done American Civil War reenacting since I was eight years old (could have won the war more than three times in the years we've been reenacting :-) So no one would have needed to work so hard if only I didn't keep a good Jewish sabbath complete with no computer use. Grr. Well, if your dresses don't work out, I have back ups. My sister's and my civil war ballgowns aren't covered in ruffles like Kaylee's, but the hoop skirt I wear underneath IS and I could always pretend that's the skirt and take a picture in that instead.... Also I have several stuffed beagles :) But the real dog pic is very cool. Good work everyone. Especially those knitting a hat--you're awesome!

Amy-yes, I agree. PLEEEEEEEEASE take a picture of one of your fluffily hoop skirts. That's great! Even if we didn't need the pic for our scavenger hunt, I'd still want to see a picture of it. Civil war reenactment sounds kinda fun. (Well, what it really is, is that I love any excuse to dress up.)

And I'll try to remember to save anything incredibly important for non-sabbath days so you won't feel completely out of the loop. (Not that much important really happens here, but still..it might. Some day.)

Safe-While you were away, we pushed the "AutoPilot" button. It seems to be working. We didn't crash, anyway.
I vote YES on you getting the dino picture. That'd be snazzy.
And sorry about the funeral. "(
